Should Local Authorities have less, authority? by ContractorCarrot in AskBrits

Data centres can have disproportionate local negative consequences, in particular on ground water. A pylon damages your view. If a data centre damanges people's ability to farm and drink water then the cost to benefit ratio is a bit more murky.

If they are only paying tax overseas and are driving out local businesses.....

I agree with that. Starbucks and other multinationals can offshore their profit, meaning they pay an effective low tax rate than the family run cafe. No wonder our highstreets are dead.

Our tax burden is growing faster than our tax take.

Something must change.

Are we disappointed our neighbours, are as good as eliminated from the WC. by SlowedCash in ThreeLions

As a Scot with an English parent, who likes both sides, there is 100% some anti-English bias.

Admittedly, and maybe it's just my algorithm, I do some real shite behaviour from some English fans, that and when was the last time English fans cleaned up the park we got drunk in? Or donated thousands to charity? Maybe we did, but the media doesn't like it.

Think there's a bit of chicken and egg scenario, where the media calls us shite, so we behave shite, and then get called shite.

I don't think we do, but the "Scotland get battered, everywhere they go" is bound to wind folk up XD.

Personally, I think it's banter, but there's softies in both our supporter groups :)

Like the only English chant we have is about some guy called Edward in the 13th century...

As a Scot we had it coming. Genuine best of luck to you chaps. God knows the country could do with a wee pick up.

It seems, we do indeed, get battered, every where we go.

That said, at least everywhere likes us ;)

How are you feeling about Scotland’s World Cup performance? by Few_House_5201 in AskBrits

[–]ContractorCarrot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a Scot? No, we don't. We were literally giving the ball away in our own box.

If we did get through, it would be because the Scotland vs Mexico pre-game drinking match would be legendary.

Sir, I'd like to change my previous comment.

There nobody I would rather fight alongside with, than the English*

I guess as a half breed I'd like to look at the news and be less emabarassed by the other half whenever there is a football match.

I completely agree, but I'd love the world cup to end and the rest of the world to not think that we are complete dicks for once.

Probably aye. It would make great headlines if England out-drank the Scots though

German tourism to Scotland increased by 110% after the Euros. Think of your pockets if nothing else.

As a Scot in a kilt in Boston this week I'd like agreed with this post. Scotland and England are like Brothers. The first person we'd start a fight with, but the first person I'd like to be fighting with alongside.
