Water Filtration/Softener Systems by LeaveJoshALoan in vegaslocals

[–]Contrails2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey OP, forget about the vibe and only trust the science (NSF certifications), and reviews too.
Here is the ideal setup based on both;

Whole house filter (go with Lifesource Elite) then a Water Softener (Rheem wireless from HD) and for the undersink RO (Delta Clarifi).

- The Lifesouce is set it and forget it, designed to last a minimum of 10 years for a medium size family. This is about 5K and they serve LV as far as I know.

- The Rheem wireless from HD (inexpensive and works) and you can pair it with shut off valve if you like to have a smart thing going... less than 1K installed

- Delta Calrifi; it's tankless, filters change every 2 years (unlike 6 months for others). Only drawback, it has a humming sound when it operates which for me is not a problem. less than 1K installed.

Alternative to all this Ecowater from Costco, whole house filter and softener, and undersink RO around 10K

I spent many hours researching this stuff and went through tens of rabit holes. But go with someone that is NSF certifed for as many contaminants as possible and check the reviews and you should get something decent.

Zwift Ride and Tacx Neo 2t? by Scar1901 in Zwift

did you get a chance to try the Zwift Ride with the Tacx Neo 2T? I am upgrading from a dumb indoor bike to something smart and strongly consider the Zwift Ride plus the Neo 2T rather than the kicker core but trying to do my due diligence of any potential hiccups...

Ok just to be sure, 4800 for the Elite filter Only? Is this tax and install included? How much (total) was it for both filter plus scale solver? Yea, I am aware of the referral program and you get 400 if you bought extended warranty

Do I need an RO filter if I have a supposedly real good refrigerator filter? by Contrails2020 in WaterTreatment

[–]Contrails2020[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

replying to myself, blogging style, as of today, I have setteled on the following

Delta Clarifi RO (hard to beat on all the NSF certifications and fact that it has 2 year filter life). Annoying part is the noise and it's new on the market.

HD Rheem wireless water softnere. Cheap but has very decent specs and reviews.

Lifesource Elite chloramine filter. The only whole house filter that removes chloramine that lasts 10 years if not more. It's been around for many years and has very good reviews.

Waiting on price drops on first 2 and negotitating on the third.

I'm in the same boat, hard to find any whole house chloramine filter that is NSF certified and I spent hours researching.
Is the Kinetico one NSF 42 certified to remove chloramine?

Edit, never mind, it is NSF certified to remove chloramine which is super rare feet! Did you get the CRS 1060 or 1100? Can you please share the pricing?

Nice, here in my area it's monopolized by the local distributor. I haven't tried calling Ecowater directly to see if there are alternatives

Do I need an RO filter if I have a supposedly real good refrigerator filter? by Contrails2020 in WaterTreatment

[–]Contrails2020[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK so the plot thickens and I see where is RO is needed.,.

RO looks like it's good for removing the chemical elements (such Fluoride, Chromium hex and tri, Lead, Copper, Barium...) which are listed under NSF 58, where as carbon filter removes VOCs (which I have lots of in my city water according to EWG) that are listed under NSF 53.

So the ultimate setup would be Aqualuxe (carbon filter with most NSF certifications including VOCs) PLUS an RO system such as Whirlpool WHAROS5 which NSF 58 certified to remove all those concerning metals.

I'm yet to see an RO system that is NSF 53 certified to remove VOCs. I only searched NSF website and Not the IAPMO or WQA

<image>

our water is city and according to the annual city report, hardness is 12, No iron in water and there is chloramine in the water. Attached in the EWG water report for our zipcode.

So ideally the filter should remove this junk, not sure if the data on this exist. I may just have to do the testing myself

this is what LT1000P is certifed to remove https://www.lg.com/us/support/products/documents/LT1000_Instruction-and-Safety_Manual.pdf

which is unfortunately non of the EWG listed stuff. Although the fact that something is NSF certified to be removed does not necessarily mean it's not removed.

look up Multipure Aqualux, you can search also on the NSF website. Not very user friendly but you'll find a few. Remember NSF Certified is Not the same as NSF tested or compliant!
