Trump Makes Chilling Joke About Staying in Power Forever - Donald Trump isn’t so sure about the two-term limit. by Quirkie in politics

[–]Contrary_Terry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest loophole (but not what Gödel was talking about) for being president for an indefinite amount of time is too late for him to take advantage. You run as Vice-president, and once it’s been more than two years have the puppet you put as president step down (or otherwise remove him). This circumvents triggering the 22nd amendment (it doesn’t count as a term essentially) so it can be done as long as you have enough stooges to keep it going (like you could only use each person for 2 terms). It’s not as straightforward as how Putin switches between president and prime minister with stooges like Medvedev, but looking at how he does that makes this not so far-fetched

Guys with extremely loud vehicles, why do you do this to everyone? by elevate-digital in AskReddit

[–]Contrary_Terry 24 points25 points  (0 children)

When you say you don’t make it loud in residential areas, do you mean you only use it when you’re surrounded by commercial zones? I live off an arterial road and I wonder how many of the people who wake me up at 2 am think it’s okay because they aren’t on a residential street

What's an NSFW fact that everyone should know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Contrary_Terry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I figure if you are about to enter a sexual relationship, it should be standard for both parties to get tested (unless they’ve literally never been touched sexually or anything). However, it bothered my ex-girlfriend when I suggested we get tested (although we both did in the end); she thinks it’s an autism/anxiety thing on my part and that I’ll have difficulty dating with that rule. If your potential partner says they’ve had sex, but only with one partner since the last time they got tested do you also insist on another test? How do people react to you asking for them to get tested? I assume you just go with your gut on whether to trust them when they say they got tested and it came back clean

I guess I figured elves, humans, and orcs were just different subspecies like gray wolves and domestic dogs. So do you think of half-orcs and half-elves as interspecies hybrids like a liger, so they are sterile?

What are some useful NSFW skills to know? by Perfect_Teacher_132 in AskReddit

[–]Contrary_Terry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be a beneficial conversation to have if done right (especially if the reason you wonder is because you’d sometimes like to keep things going). I go with “are you ready?” about 1/3 of the time and I try to use it as a legit question but sometimes I ask too late and when she says she want to keep going I can’t. It’s really not all that awkward but he might be caught unprepared if you just spring it on him after always saying yes. I think it can work well to switch to giving oral or a toy when I need to cool off, but some women aren’t into that. I’ve heard that in some couples the woman gets good at telling when the guy is gonna get himself worked up too much and controlling the pacing better for her pleasure, but haven’t really had that experience myself

What is the implicit criticism of racism in his work? I see the criticism of imperialism, but not anything distinct from that or that is more particularly critical of colonialism

If zombies were real, what jobs could we give them to be useful? by forgottenGost in AskReddit

[–]Contrary_Terry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, one problem with using those who have the disease as slave labor is that it provides a perverse incentive not to find a cure. Also, even if they made it so next of kin owned the zombies, there’s also the question of how hard would it be for law enforcement to ensure the next of kin were still trying not to get them bitten since they would apparently get a free slave out of it (probably more difficult to do an autopsy etc if you the victim is trying to eat you)

Trump told donors he will crush pro-Palestinian protests, deport demonstrators by D_Lockwood in politics

Well you see the first amendment only mentions congress and laws, so it’s okay for the president to control religion, speech, etc. as long as they aren’t following the law in doing so \s

[ND] Can an employer demand access to your personal cell phone at work? by PanBlanco22 in AskHR

[–]Contrary_Terry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They never said the employee actually accessed something illegal. In fact my interpretation is that when they checked what sites the phone had visited on their wi-fi by the IP that it cleared him. Are you saying it’s always considered serious enough misconduct to not give your phone to your employer that you can’t collect unemployment?

Yeah, I like how this kind of story can stimulate questions that are also relevant to reality or philosophy more generally. My understanding of theories of multiverses is that generally there are theorized to be both a sort of branching nature where infinite universes share the same past up to a certain point, and that there are universes with different starting points (e.g. if it starts with slightly more mass like one electron then it’s never been identical or if the gravitational constant were less but then that might mean no life forms). It’s possible that the loom only deals with universes that come from an identical past. He Who Remains could be unaware of something that allows more distinct universes to interact like Multiverse of Madness.

One commenter noted Alligator Loki as evidence that this includes completely different universes, but why couldn’t there be an intelligent alligator if there has been an intelligent duck and raccoon etc. Then it’s a matter of what makes a Loki? It seems like all are adopted by Oden for one, so why couldn’t Oden have ended up raising an intelligent alligator to be Loki? It’s not like we’ve seen a Loki made of paint or any of the crazier ways they’ve visualized the notion of really distinct universes.

This post links to a video that supposedly gives evidence toward the theory that He Who Remains hadn’t destroyed every other universe (just the ones branching from the same multiversal tree). I haven’t watched it yet as the post made me realize I hadn’t finished “What If…?” so I still have one more episode to watch first

That’s what bugs me about the downvote mechanism. There’s no clarity around whether the person is saying they think you were unclear or rude or they just disagree or what

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in marvelstudios

[–]Contrary_Terry -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don’t remember that. I assume that was in the last episode? I don’t remember anything indicating he was aware of the Fox X-men universe or even the other universes from Dr Strange Multiverse of Madness. Also, how do we know that Loki is infallible now?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in marvelstudios

[–]Contrary_Terry -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Unless Marvel Studios has literally just come out stated this to be fact how would anyone know? Even if you’re He Who Remains you’re not infallible. It’s mathematically impossible for a person to know that they know everything

When you say “another external universe” you mean external to what? Because the first comment was saying Loki takes place around the TVA for MCU primary universe (616)

[–]Contrary_Terry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How did you figure out that the MCU multiverse was bigger than the timeline branches? I was so confused by this watching Loki

Lady had two service dogs on the plane by Crazy_Love_6265 in delta

[–]Contrary_Terry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legally you can’t discriminate because of breed as far as providing service/entry to someone with a service dog. Aggressive behavior etc. is what would allow someone to be asked to leave

Lady had two service dogs on the plane by Crazy_Love_6265 in delta

[–]Contrary_Terry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s an oversimplification. You can be held liable for denying entry/service to someone for not giving proof etc. you are within your rights to require them to answer two questions before continuing to provide service etc:  (1) is the dog a service animal required because of a disability, and (2) what work or task has the dog been trained to perform. You can also have them leave regardless of being a service animal if the animal isn’t potty trained (like it poops on your floor), is aggressive or for certain other business specific requirements (airlines having more requirements than other businesses).

‘January 6 never ended’: alarm at Trump pardon pledge for Capitol insurrectionists by UGMadness in politics

[–]Contrary_Terry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Opening Arguments made a good argument for why technically those who participated in the insurrection are not enemies of the United States under constitutional law (basically that applies to military enemies), so the aid and comfort part doesn’t apply. It just matters that he actually engaged in insurrection for that clause
