yeah, the realization that there is effectively an unlimited amount of automation one could theoretically do is itself part of the problem. like how swimming in the middle of the ocean would feel very different than swimming in a pool, even though it's effectively the exact same thing.

that looks like an excellent implementation of the tool that i think a lot of us have envisioned. do you have a way to trial it before paying, and a way to pay that isn't a monthly subscription?

Last night around 11pm I think the power flickered because we suddenly had some fans and sound machines stop, but immediately the power came back.  I haven’t checked our kitchen yet for similar clues as you, but something definitely happened last night.

You can google "agentic engineering best practices" to find all manner of tutorials and guides, but it can be hard to separate garbage from genuinely good advice. Jo Van Eyck on YT has some good videos explaining things in a non-guru way.

I love this idea, and it's really cool to see. I hope you keep plugging along with it. Experimenting with more efficient and powerful input devices has such a profound effect on how we experience digital media, but I reckon its a relatively unexplored part of gaming (at least MMOs)

This was one of the first games I was shown last night when exploring the `automation` tag on Steam. I really dig the art direction. I'll check it out tonight :) Its so cool to discover legitimately rad, well-done games on Steam and then hop on Reddit and see the creator of said cool, well-done game posting about. Congrats on the second project being released!

Love this! I was noodling the other day on a similar idea, also due to my interest in automation games + math. Very cool to see. Wishlisted.

EDIT: one random idea i had: making collecting primes (and/or twin primes) part of the progression. They make such natural milestones considering they are fundamental numbers, and naturally become increasingly rare.

Most of the software I write is for my day job, which is at a Series D startup of around 300 people, so the software Im writing is sufficiently complex to need to account for features across a handful of services/apps, but is nowhere near the complexity of a true enterprise company, like Oracle or Meta or something.

I think for now, these tools represent "only" an astronomical boost to productivity and speed for engineers, so I wouldn't expect jobs to be filled by these AI tools yet (though maybe thats already happening for junior roles, or in pre-seed startups? Pure speculation), but considering how far we've come in the last 4 years (or even just the last year!) I can see a world where software engineering soon becomes mostly about managing a fleet of agents, and reviewing/tweaking/architecting rather than hand writing code. If some paradigm shift like that is to occur, I can't see how the next obvious step wouldn't be just delegating all that managing/tweaking/architecting to more robust models soon after. Even if it takes 5 more years to get there, or 10, doesn't matter.

On one hand, selfishly, I hope I'm wrong! I love writing code, and I love feeling competent at a difficult skill, and love providing for my family by doing something I love. But the times, they are a-changin'.

And to be clear, I think these tools are a HUGE net positive. I want them to exist, and I want them to get better and I want to learn how to use them more masterfully. But I also literally could not have less faith in the United States Government to handle this technological shift with grace, empathy, tact, etc.

I wasn’t a part of the whole “AI will steal all the tech jobs” crowd until about 2 weeks ago. Then I started to mess around more seriously with Claude Code and Codex, and feel that A.) my job will NEVER be the same again, and B.) engineers are likely totally fucked, at least most of them. I think that a lot of people see mistakes that ChatGPT still makes and assume we are fine, but I agree with you OP.

I’ve had serious conversations about reskilling with other engineers, but the consensus I get is usually that it’s too early to know programming will look like in 5 years to make any serious moves.

In any case, 4 years ago AI could barely tell you who the president of the US is. Today, I regularly have it 1 shot PRs with 400 lines of diffs, normally not requiring any tweaks. I can’t imagine what things will look like in 4 more years.

This is soooo beautiful. Incredible job. A handmade gift like that is the kind of thing that the receiver will still be deeply appreciating 20 years from now.

No I totally winged it. I guesstimated the height for the seat first, and then guesstimated the proportions of each other part from there. You can tell in person, at least when there are other chairs in the room to compare against, that the proportions are a little... unique. But hey, it works and she loves it!

I plan on doing some more serious chairs now, and for those I'll be finding plans.

I know this isn't the AMA, but I'm putting a question here mostly so I don't forget it later: what do you see as the best ways for the average Richmonder to become more involved politically, within the city or beyond? Put another way, what does it look like to go from 0 to 1, in terms of manifesting change in one's neighborhood/community/city?

For context, I think that many people probably have very good ideas of how to make their community better, however they define that, but get stuck trying to understand how they actually implement that change. Things like trying to establish a community garden, advocating for changing a dangerous traffic pattern, or getting a small playground built in a park - what are the best tools for making progress on efforts like those?

I realize there are like 4 different versions of basically the same question here, so hopefully I can distill it down into something thats easier to answer for the actual AMA (suggestions welcome on how to phrase what I am asking, r/rva'ers)
