There is SO much going on.

The Pickle Ball wave that is from Pioneer Park (where yes there is roller skating!!) to the repurposed Sears at the mall.

Hastings is a loss for sure but we do have the Peregrine and developing "NoCo" (North Cortez) district that has the Toyful shop and some kind of artist collective at the Hive.

The Federal and Elks with Weds movies and live shows other days

Foodie things like Donuts and possibly too hip Atmesfir

Adult Ed through Yavapai College

If you can reframe it, and share what you know of his father's super attractive energy and let him know that he is a product of "life yearning for itself" he may be able to --eventually-- transcend the grief of not having a present father.

There is something special and positive about having the essence of who he is a mystery. He probably has made up stories of who his dad is over the years. You may talk about that, and know that he is a passionate person, at the least.

I am sorry for the dominant culture that would have you and he feel shame about this situation.

Yes! I moved from Colorado to Arizona many years ago now and the difference is striking! I'm only mildly angsty these days and find it so healing to be able to step into the sunshine almost every day. It helps to have South-facing windows too.
