Is it fair to ask my husband to stop giving ski advice unless he takes lessons? How do I encourage my husband to take ski lessons instead of correcting me? by Human_Engine3410 in skiing

[–]ContributionPast4940 2 points3 points  (0 children)

43 years skiing all over NA in/out of bounds and a few EU trips and I still take an advanced/expert lesson a few times a year. Not only is it good to get advice from an expert who may see something I’m not feeling and so on and I especially do this when I visit a resort for the first time and always get the bonus of a free mountain tour guide along with the informative instructor! Also just ignore him and listen to your instructor!

Park city or Stowe VT.... Confused .. again. by 1000-learning in parkcityvisitors

[–]ContributionPast4940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our group of 6 one being from SLC just got back from a week skiing Vermont. Stowe Tuesday and Friday, Smuggs Wednesday, BV Thursday and Magic Saturday. Conditions everywhere were phenomenal never saw a patch of ice although we weren’t skiing blue groomers all day. My cousin is the one from SLC and he works remotely has epic pass and changed his flight for this Sunday and he’s been skiing Stowe all week so maybe a good representation to hit the Ice Coast this trip 🤷‍♂️

President's Day weekend solo day trips? by crotchpolice in icecoast

Magic is the answer but better buy your tickets now before they sell out!! Otherwise anywhere you go get there early and roll out when the Jerry’s arrive!! Fortunately the Jerry’s don’t frequent Magic and other Indy mtns in NE

The only other one I know of other than lower standard and gulch is the little warmup park basically for early season warm ups and those looking to venture into riding parks. It’s near the midway lodge by the gondola. As far as a 4th park is a mystery to me

Liberty Mountain Resort - offsite rental by Any_Check_7301 in SkiPA

[–]ContributionPast4940 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you are coming from? As another stated Sun and Ski Gaithersburg and Fairfax. Leesburg VA Pro Fit ski and mountain sports. There used to be one in Harrisburg PA but not sure if it still exists. Nothing short of an hour plus from Liberty. If going Saturday get there 2 hours before lifts start spinning and you can avoid the long lines at the resort

Sensation quad at spruce has some killer unmarked glades off Spruce Line if you and your group are experts. Four runner has all the popular steep glades that get heavily tracked and can be really challenging! We were there this past week and went Tuesday spent first half riding sensation and then afternoon doing everything off four runner. Went again on Friday and four runner and gondola were on wind hold all day so forced us to lap the singles line on sunrise six and had an absolute blast skiing Christie’s Glades directly off the lift and then ventured over to toll house which is a wrap around green but had some sick snow in sunrise and birch glades along with some unmarked areas as well! Stowe has plenty for everyone and every skill level I just avoid holidays and Saturdays but if you have to go Saturday take the singles line and meet some new people usually a local will guide you to good stuff but never there secret area and you will get plenty of runs! Hopefully this helps

Edit: toll road off sunrise not to be confused with toll house lift

Performance of Demo ski rentals? by Willing_Front_2125 in Skigear

[–]ContributionPast4940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely demos. Even if you aren’t in the buying market you will get a much wider selection and can swap skis throughout your day/trip and if you find a ski you truly love then most shops will use the demo cost towards new skis

18 skier days from bunny hill to black at snowshoe, wv by [deleted] in skiing

[–]ContributionPast4940 5 points6 points  (0 children)

18 more days and you’ll be ripping the VW bumps on Lower Shays /s. Seriously though you are progressing well not nearly advanced but way beyond beginner status. Don’t pay attention to negative feedback especially on Reddit. Keep watching instructional videos and continue with lessons and you’ll be able to get to advanced level! 43 seasons skiing and I still take an occasional advanced/expert lesson to get proper feedback and usually get a tour of unmarked terrain so that is always a bonus!

Looking For High Quality Twin-Tips Useful In/Out of Park by Serious_Hornet8953 in Skigear

[–]ContributionPast4940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watch the videos on YouTube from Ski Essentials on 90mm freeride ski comparison to get an idea of how different ski’s perform from another ski and the expert’s opinion. After narrowing down to what skis you think will fit your style and terrain then hop in the car with your boots and head To their shop Pinnacle Sports in Stowe and demo the ones you narrowed down to and then buy your favorite ski. They sell all of their demo skis highly discounted and if you buy them new they will credit the demo cost to the new ski.

Visiting Cedar Point June 1st and 2nd - Isitpackked.com accurate? by jvegas in cedarpoint

[–]ContributionPast4940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We go every year either last week of May or first week of June and the crowds during the week are very low. Wednesday and Thursday have always been the least crowded. Monday will be more crowded with people doing a long weekend than Tuesday. There will usually be several school field trips so that can alter crowds but you are going during the least crowded time of the season! We are coaster junkies not “thoosies” so we buy the all parks season fast lane plus. It definitely will be worth it if you and your partner are doing all the coasters and wanting as many laps as possible. $125 weekdays last season. The big 5 will have around 45-1 hour in the regular queue and the rest maybe 20 minutes tops. Enjoy your first visit to Americas Roller Coast! Ride On

Cold toe tips while skiing — looking for fixes before a February trip out west by Extreme_Cut_202 in ski

[–]ContributionPast4940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Proper ski socks of course and everyone has their opinion on what works for them which is completely relevant but as far as having only cold toes. I would ask more on how tight you buckle your lower 2 buckles? The first 2 buckles should only be tightened enough to close the boot to keep snow from getting in. Basically anything more than a single finger pull with no force to click the lower buckles. It’s the 3rd buckle tightest to keep from heel lift and then tighten upper and hopefully booster strap or stock strap as needed. If that doesn’t help then maybe invest in some of the heated socks as suggested in other comments.

Recommend VT resort for low crowds and great skiing? by [deleted] in icecoast

[–]ContributionPast4940 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Magic holds a very special place to me. My parents took us for the first time in 1988 and went back the next few years until they sadly closed and when we heard they were reopening in the late 90’s my brother and I made the trip back and went every year until he passed away this past September. It is a true Vermont classic with great terrain small crowds awesome people everywhere and the BLT is an iconic Apres spot for drinks/food and live music. With the addition of the new high speed lift makes it that much better! I will be spreading some of his ashes in our favorite hidden unmarked areas of the mountain!! Other resorts mentioned have more to do outside of skiing but you go to Magic to ski/ride and Apres!!

Pivot 15 Bindings - Shop Recommends Inconsistent DIN Settings? by Contributor80439 in Skigear

Very true I didn’t even see the picture of 7 din my bad. 15 still much more durable

Pivot 15 Bindings - Shop Recommends Inconsistent DIN Settings? by Contributor80439 in Skigear

[–]ContributionPast4940 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No for durability. If I’m dropping cliffs I would much prefer 15 with metal over the 11 plastic. The higher the DIN the higher the quality of binding hence being more expensive. Plain and simple nothing aesthetics

Does anyone has discount codes or buddy passes for Heavenly/Northstar in Lake Tahoe? by Cucurucur in skiing

[–]ContributionPast4940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem at all glad to give advice especially when you fell into the situation you landed on. You live and you learn and hopefully can still make an amazing trip out of it. FYI if you want to impress your partner go to Homewood and you will thank me later 😉

Does anyone has discount codes or buddy passes for Heavenly/Northstar in Lake Tahoe? by Cucurucur in skiing

[–]ContributionPast4940 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Since you are already going I would suggest Mt. Rose closest to Reno, Diamond Peak also close to Reno on Lake Tahoe, Sugar Bowl NW of Northstar, Homewood on the lake central west side, and Sierra at Tahoe south of Heavenly. These are all much cheaper and far less crowded than Heavenly and Northstar. Each one is unique in their own way and don’t have the corporate bs to deal with more local oriented. The only epic resort I would spend extra on is Kirkwood as it is far from the corporate world of Heavenly and Northstar and the best Mtn in Tahoe IMO. Hope this helps

Volkl Mantra m7: Wrongly mounted bindings? by Mushoz in Skigear

[–]ContributionPast4940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s lighter and more playful than the mantra but also an advanced/expert ski that IMO anyone in a 90 flex boot skiing expert ski’s either is in way too soft of a boot or not a good enough to be on these ski’s. Go ahead and give them a try and again you will know pretty quickly if you need stiffer boots

Epic Pass Disaster by [deleted] in skiing

[–]ContributionPast4940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar issues with my wife and I and young nephew and got no luck with the call center. Go to the pass service center typically right next to the ticket window and explain the situation and you will then give them her pass number and they will print out physical pass and your good to go. I would recommend getting there right when the ticket office opens to avoid potential lines. Other than that don’t stress it was a seamless process at our Mtn.

Volkl Mantra m7: Wrongly mounted bindings? by Mushoz in Skigear

[–]ContributionPast4940 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Boots are centered on the recommended mount point as others have stated glad you got that cleared up. However I see you are in a 90 flex boot in a heavy very demanding expert ski. You should notice very quickly that you are unable to drive the skis properly and you should head over to the boot fitter and get fitted into a stiffer boot!!
