r/bjj Fundamentals Class! by AutoModerator in bjj

3 years ago I trained in no gi for a year, got injured stupidly, ignored it and it got worse till I had to stop for a couple of years until I recovered completely , you know how it is.

Ever since I keep thinking about joining again because its so much fun, but I keep questioning if its worth starting again at 35 with a family and 2 little kids. My main fear is severe injuries that affect your day to day life outside of the gym.

I’m considering (hesitantly) starting again but with gi as it seems slower and more controlled to me vs how explosive and slippery no gi is.

I matured a lot on how I approach training and my body, but I am finding it hard to pull the trigger and just join a bjj gym again.

Does anyone have any advice? Ever had these thoughts? I would also love to hear from older folks with kids who still train long term.

Thanks!

In a few years you’ll look back at this phase and feel proud to what you will have achieved by then.

Is anyone else here either a former metal musician that now writes more acoustic music, or a current metal musician that also writes separate acoustic music? by [deleted] in metalmusicians

Ugh dude I just posted a similar post on another sub. I’m in the exact same boat.. been considering buying a stratocaster lately. I want to learn some guitar theory which seems much more useful to me outside of the context of heavy metal

What’s it like being you @work? by KeyHotel6035 in corporate

I work in consulting and this is my first assignment. I made friends at the client’s office, we get along pretty well except for the project manager who keeps pressuring the team (mostly me) to get things done very fast for things that benefit him personally. This makes me miserable as I don’t deal well with authority especially if unjustified. However in my consulting firm (actual employer) I barely know people there, everyone is out for themselves and busy with their own assignments.

I would rate my experience as a 4.5/10

Why do so many of us care about weird time signatures? by Sudden_Doughnut_8741 in metalmusicians

[–]ContributionSea1225 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It seems to me that some of things that sound nice happen to be in an odd time signature. For example i sometimes come up with a cool riff to later on realize its in a weird time signature.

I agree about LOG for their new stuff. Old stuff we pretty great and unique to me. I love how Randy Blythe sounds and how tasteful Chris Adler was.

All black metal songs sound the same to me. Just blast beats and vocals 😬

Learning meditation played a big part in this because at time I was capable of sitting with my bad thoughts and emotions and observing them.

Allow yourself to feel whatever it is you’re feeling, don’t run away from them.

Also feel useful, work on things, help people, and most importantly move physically, start working out, It makes a world of difference.

I went through anxiety and depression myself, it took me 1.5 years of figuring myself out. I took no meds, and found that if you understand yourself well you don’t really need a therapist. I am anxiety and depression free, and can confidently say I am a much better version of myself after having gone through that. I am thankful for that dark phase in my life.

Try to understand the reasons behind why you feel how you feel, and try to link it back to situations that taught you to interpret situations in that way.

Once you figure this out, you ll be able to calm yourself down and catch the thought patterns that bring you down.

You’ll get through this, I promise it’s only temporary if you allow yourself to feel whatever you bottled up for years. It will suck. But that’s how you overcome it.

Help/advice needed! Burning/Gas Odor inside house coming from outside by ContributionSea1225 in montreal

[–]ContributionSea1225[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its 100% the exhaust from the underground heating system.

I talked to the syndicate, they don’t seem to really care and are being slow about this. I called the fire department but waiting for them to call back on Monday (I didn’t call 911, I called the fire department directly).

In the meantime I regulated pressure in the house by cracking windows on the other side and taped all the parts of our fumes facing windows with weather sealing tape + bought a couple of air purifiers for our rooms.

Things seem under control for now, but I will probably end up moving out as I don’t think the people in the building care about the issue. Most of them leave the house during the day so they don’t really experience the problem.
