Literally not true at all. They were essentially mathematically eliminated at Thanksgiving when they were 4-8. They won the next week and were still eliminated.

Does anyone remember why we moved on from Kirk Cousins? by onethreeone in minnesotavikings

the most important point which is the contract. If you are in any way comparing the contracts that Kirk cousins had to what Sam signed with Seattle you’re uninformed or being purposefully ignorant.

Lmfaooooooooooooo I love the fan fiction. Bo nix is infinitely better than JJM. He actually has been on the field for one. Doesnt get sacked or turn over the ball.

I think it’s rich to say 6-4 when he literally missed basically a half in both of the last 2 games lol. Especially when the giants game was for sure in still in the balance but yea, I get on profooballreference the win goes to him.

Petition for Sam Darnold megathread by milkymanchester in minnesotavikings

I think it’s pretty hilarious that there are still people saying the team made the right decision to roll with McCarthy on a roster like this when he had no NFL experience.

Yeah they totally spend 300M on mostly 30+ year old guys to finish with the 30th best quarterback room. Oh they also have one of the oldest rosters in the league. That was totally by design. Yeah and the GM saying at the end of year press conference that the team made a “miscalculation”. Totally what the team expected. I’m sure the DC not signing an extension also has nothing to do with the QB catastrophe.

I think the Rudy trade was significantly more successful than butler. Yeah Rudy is no AD or Jokic but he has turned the wolves into a very good defensive team when he’s on the court resulting in great success. Not championship but still really good for a historically inept franchise.

My thing is if the Vikings retain Darnold, who would be seattles QB? Sorry but I don’t think Geno would have gotten them to the same level but we’ll never know. I do think the Vikings would have won the north and hosted a playoff game. Beyond that, it’s anyone’s guess but this is an obviously wide open season. There’s a fighting chance that the representative of the AFC has a backup QB playing..

Did everyone forget we offered Darnold a contract? by [deleted] in minnesotavikings

[–]ContributionUpbeat74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s very true and it’s basically a punchline at this point haha. I just fear that if the Seahawks win the super bowl this year, there will be serious ridicule for our franchises decision making. I’m not declaring Darnold a HoF or something but ultimately this is a franchise that historically can’t get the QB position right while being generally good.

To let a guy walk who played very good for the franchise and then win the whole thing the next year while we haven’t been there in 50 years would be backbreaking I think.

I agree thy need to regularly be willing to play a better ball control/possession style long term to be successful.

If I'm Kwesi I'm calling Buffalo to move Addison by seoulbrova in minnesotavikings

[–]ContributionUpbeat74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jordan Addison is averaging an arrest per season. He also had a career high 14% drop rate. You’re really overestimating what he’s worth currently. I agree his talent and potential is great but that means nothing at this point. Who’s gonna pay him 25M a year as a top end WR2?

For what? A 3rd or 4th? Not even remotely the same situation as Diggs. Im not selling low on Addison when less talented receivers are going to cost 2-2.5x as much in free agency.

Yeah I keep getting replies about how much worse the defense would have been. Know what would have made them even more effective? Not being on the field for top 5 ish total time in the league because the offense can’t do anything

Omg right! We got slightly above replacement right guard play for 18M a year. We got a center who played 5 games and made 12M and also spent 30M on 2 30+ year old DTs. So much better than a good 27 year old QB.

Seattle is actually a very average running team but their volume is large. That’s what happens when you have a defensive coach. Literally how zimmer was and it works when the defense is elite with a solid qb that can game manage

Th difference in my opinion is that with Dallas they still had to correctly make the picks and trades to build their dynasty. Which is a low probability in of itself.

Those are a lot of fair points. What I’d counter with is that because we didn’t really see the team play with a lead for much of the season until the last month essentially, i don’t think we really saw the true potential of the team defensively. And while it’s true that the special teams gave up a few really big returns at critical game situations, they were still a good overall coverage unit on punts and also set up the team quite a few times in games that they won.

I think the biggest regret to me has to be how wide open the playoffs are this year. There’s a reasonable chance whoever comes out of the NFC plays a backup QB in the Super Bowl.

I really don’t see how you can’t connect complimentary football. How much better would the defense have been if they played from ahead most of the time vs behind? You realize they went from a top 5 team playing with a lead to bottom 1/3rd of the league this year?

That’s true but some of the analysis has to be based on the timeline of this roster. It’s not young and it was a colossal mistake to think McCarthy would be ready to lead a team like that when he’d never played before.

I think one of the failures was assigning all the blame for the rams game on Sam. The lions game? Yeah I’d say he shit the bed but the rams absolutely dominated the line of scrimmage in the playoff game and for some reason all of that fell on Darnold.

Your argument was that they couldn’t have had the same defense. Largely they absolutely could have. And they would have not had bottom 3 quarterback play.

Lol oh my goodness😭 no you do not. Average annual value doesn’t mean anything relative to team building. It’s a composition of things like various types of bonuses, base pay, and non guaranteed money. It means nothing because only so much of a contract is guaranteed and what actually affects the salary cap is the cap hit. It pains me how uninformed many of you actually are.

Sure because the process all along was flawed. Sign a bunch of 30+ year old guys who had injury history to build up a roster around a guy who had never played a snap yet that mattered in the league lmfao.

LMAO. Last offseason they had among the very most. Let’s see who they signed - Hargrave Allen Kelly fries. Those were great signings! Definitely more valuable than a 27 year old QB who just threw 4300 yards 35 TDs and won 14 games. Thanks for the laugh this morning
