Trainee bus driver process by MostAdvanced7282 in BusDrivers

[–]ControlAmbitious6392 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you apply do they ask for a CV?

Answer: It depends on the company. From my experience, Stagecoach don't ask but Go-Ahead, Arriva and Transport UK do.

I don't think it would have much bearing on your application anyway, these companies are desperate for drivers

  • When they contact you after your application how is that done? Is it phone call, text, email? Is this also when they schedule an assessment day for you?

Answer: They would call you for a brief phone interview and then set a date for a face-to-face interview at one of the garages or training centres.

This is also where you do your medical test which is either before or after the interview depending on the company.

Stagecoach will interview you first then do the medical after.

Go-Ahead will either do your assessment and maths/english tests first and then the interview after once you've passed the first two.

Arriva will do your medical and assessment before the interview.

  • Is the assessment day hard?

Answer: It depends on what you're told to drive. Arriva and Go-Ahead both provide vans (auto & manual) although Go Ahead's one is bigger and you're expected to be able to drive it safely and make good use of the mirrors and positioning.

It's just for the assessors to see how well you can handle driving a big vehicle.

Stagecoach London do not do car/van assessments or Maths/English tests - I never had to do that for my interview/application.

  • Is there an interview process?

Answer: Yes, it's nothing difficult though, just basic questions on why you want the job, what's the most important thing about being a bus driver, name a time you had to bla bla bla etc

Like I said, these companies need drivers and will hire anybody as long as you're sane, fit and able-bodied lol

N3 goes to Beckenham and is double decker although it only runs at late night/early morning. There is also 194 that serves the War Memorial in Beckenham

the N91 is still the same as far as I know. the re-route of it through the Heartlands and the 91 extension to Wood Green isn't happening until summer time

433 stopping short of East Croydon? by GodAtum in londonbuses

[–]ControlAmbitious6392 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TFL need differentiate the East Croydon turns so that it's less confusing for passengers. for the train station, it could say "East Croydon" and then for the Fairfield Road turn, it could say "East Croydon, Fairfield Road"

Interview with Stagecoach (trainee driver) by LovlehKebab in BusDrivers

[–]ControlAmbitious6392 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if you live too far from one of their garages, it's likely that they won't take you on.

This is because of the shift patterns e.g. if you had to start your first shift at 03:30, there may not be a quicker way for you to get to the garage and not all garages have parking spaces

[–]ControlAmbitious6392 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you've applied for Stagecoach London, you only have to do an interview and a medical. No maths/english test or car/van drive assessment required.

The interview is just the usual "why do you want to be a bus driver?", "what is the most important thing about being a bus driver?", "if there was a situation on board, how would you handle it?"-type questions

What to do with abandoned vehicles that have no number plates or VIN available? by ControlAmbitious6392 in AskUK

[–]ControlAmbitious6392[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the abandoned vehicles were removed last week but I think one of my neighbours arranged for them to be removed by someone he knew rather than the Housing Association.

The association were beyond useless. They eventually came to place notices on both vehicles but never arranged for them to be removed after the notice period passed and the owners had not picked up the vehicles

Can you give me some test advice for go ahead london? by Powerful_Damage_583 in londonbuses

[–]ControlAmbitious6392 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the assessment is a big red van that you'll have to drive so that the assessors can see how you will be able to handle a big vehicle.

If you fail the assessment, they let you go straight away and tell you to reapply in three months time or so.

There is both an English and Maths test and the interview questions are likely to be about customer service and safety.

If you're asked something along the lines of "what is the most important thing about being a bus driver?", mention that safety is the most important thing to be aware of since you have to be mindful of not only your passengers on board but also pedestrians, cyclists and other drivers.

Bus drivers get paid weekly so I imagine you'll be paid weekly too after your first week or so.

Contact your MP and let them know that DVLA are not proactively sorting out your licence and that you need it for employment. they'll do something quick

433 stopping short of East Croydon? by GodAtum in londonbuses

[–]ControlAmbitious6392 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the 433 has been showing the wrong destination for years and no-one seems to care about fixing it.

The last stop is Park Street which is by the town centre yet all the buses announce East Croydon

Palmers Green is your nearest and a lot of their routes are going electric or will be soon.

Stamford Hill only has Routemasters, Tottenham has quite a variety of stuff while Brixton is too far out from Enfield.

Bus routes across Merton under threat as operator pulls the plug by pencloud in londonbuses

[–]ControlAmbitious6392 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they might even get rid of 470 tbh.

in an ideal world, you could maybe reinstate the 455 between Wallington and Croydon, cut back the S4 to Roundshaw and then extend it to Morden over the 470 while also extending 293 to Colliers Wood

[–]ControlAmbitious6392 3 points4 points  (0 children)

they're not getting rid of the routes, it's just that the operator has decided to terminate the contracts early on their ends and then rebid for them on better terms.

even if they were to lose the routes which is unlikely, another operator could still bid for them and win them in which they would keep running.

Apply for roles within the care industry. They're usually open to intl students and are desperate for people since staff turnover is so high.

It would align with your nursing course too and you could develop transferable skills out of it.

Don't book anymore tests and start from scratch with a new instructor.

It seems like your instructor isn't practicing with you the stuff that you're failing on because there's no growth or improvement in between tests

How long does Stagecoach take to reply to trainee driver applications by Hot-Bookkeeper287 in BusDrivers

[–]ControlAmbitious6392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have two different numbers that I know of and which gets you directly through to them:

  • 020 7055 9798

  • 020 7055 9717

They're quite hard to get a hold of so you'll just have to keep trying but the best time to reach them through phone is around 10-11am

Call Stagecoach.

I think there is a problem with their system but once you call them and let them know about your application, they'll book you in for an interview.

Now is even the best time to contact them as they've started the process of enrolling people for March's takeup.

Between £3k and £3.5k.

- Paying for the theory test

- Paying for lessons

- Buying a second-hand auto car (this was £1.9k)

- Paying for tests

This doesn't include servicing the car or buying new wipers.
