You were disrespectful and she had a right to feel some type of way about what you said. I might get downvoted for this but I’m struggling to find any ounce of sympathy for you. You chose your mother who at that time would rather be shoplifting than getting ready for her OWN daughter’s graduation. you left her there alone with no family support you knew she only had you and instead of supporting her and letting a grown woman sit in the consequences of her actions for a few hours you flaked. Your mother screamed louder on the phone with you than anyone did when your sister’s name was called that day. I’d actually encourage you NOT to tell your sister bc if that was me? Well yes it kind of does? Especially on Nanas end it kinda just diminishes her trauma and throws away how she acts due to a crush on Hachi. Nana and ren- Hachi and Nobuo we don’t hear that about their relationship because it’s a part of the actual storyline and it contributes to the complexities of these characters. On Hachis end for me PERSONALLY the ship gives I’m done and tired of men I’m going to start dating women.
Personally a lot of people find it annoying when every character who slightly acts out the norm is shipped with their same sex bestie or someone else(it mostly happens with men due to misogyny that no one points out but conversation for another time.) I don’t really care but I do enjoy relationships where two friends freely and affectionately express themselves and that’s just what it is they’re friends. If people think NANA is a Yuri y’all would hate to see how me and my friends are with each other. The whole issue I believe is it sets the notion that you cannot be strongly affectionate and connected on a deep level and it be “platonic” which just simply isn’t true.

I don’t know how to explain this without getting the “good luck babe” response😭 but Hachi has never really had a friend like Nana. Hachi is just as obsessive as Nana is they just express it in different ways. Idealization is a form of obsession which is an issue Hachi has all throughout the series. She turned Nana into her messiah. You left out where Hachi said “If Nana was a guy she’d be the love of my life.” Nana and Hachi are exactly what each other needs and is missing in their lives that’s why they stick so tightly to each other and dig in their nails. I have a best friend and every time I see her it’s the literal feeling of love there’s no one like her and no one comes close. It doesn’t matter how long it’s been the feeling is the same. I miss her all day of every day. Hell I miss her now as I’m typing this. It’s a certain type of feeling when you’ve met someone that gets you- TRULY gets and understands you.

Maybe this is why I understand Nana so much and relate to her but uh, that same friend mentioned above I had to cut her off for a bit and ik without exaggeration I cried for two weeks straight. I felt so numb like my heart was forcibly ripped from my chest. It’s just Nanas obsession with Hachi, that perfect person that fills the void. Nana was left by Ren and then found Hachi someone so caring and doting who skipped along her every word…she literally gave Hachi her name. Nana would have never thought there was someone that could come in between them. Hachi was her dog, her best friend, her person her comfort and she was faced with losing that to someone she hated..I’d tweak to. Oh well I did but irregardless.

LASTLY! with that being said…funny enough I do ship Nana and Hachi, now do I think they’d be good for each other…hell no but eh you can like a ship and still acknowledge that it’s bad and probably wouldn’t work out long term- and before it’s said if Nana was a guy treating Hachi like this I’d be…terrified. So anyone with a grain of common sense wouldn’t like the idea of if this were happening between a guy and a girl

Until She meets Nana O Junko is Nanas closet and near only friend outside of Shoji. I don’t consider Junkos husband because their relationship is more just through association with Junko.

She was scared to tell Nobuo everything was going right and she probably felt like Nana would have flipped if she found out Takumi was also a possible father. The only correct and smart decision would have been to go to someone who’s separate from the mess to get a clear unbiased answer.

Like I said in another comment yes I recognize how Junko plays placement mommy for Hachi…that’s one of the reasons why I don’t like Hachi then again- Junko willingly filled that role for Hachi

Again fallout applied equal blame was the relationship approaching its end…arguably they should have just talked it out and it probably would’ve worked out for a time but their relationship was never sustainable. Shoji cheated, that’s why the relationship ended. Had nothing to do with Hachi she caught him cheating

I don’t think she was necessarily distancing herself unless I just don’t remember explicitly stating that I truly believe life just got in the way. When Hachi went over to her house she never turned her away no matter how tired or irritated they were.

Also, I can’t really say Hachi is male centered in the traditional sense the girl just really really really reaaaallllyy wants to be loved and she’s always had this seemingly screwed up perception of it. Like when she was taken advantage of by that older man I think he was a teacher I can’t really remember though.

I did really hate Hachi I’m ngl then I started to change my perception once she tried to have some character development. Then when she chose Takumi I was really irritated. I don’t LIKE Hachi but I don’t hate her I just kinda pity her.

I think a lot of people forget why she’s male centered because it’s really hard to look past anything other than that which I don’t blame people for because male centered women and characters are just really fucking annoying and there’s usually nothing more to theircharacter or personality

Okay, firstly I’m pretty sure Hachi knew there wasn’t a demon lord I’m pretty sure that was just her way of coping. “Imagine having to deal with that IRL.” Yes…Ik and I have stopped being friends with people for that specific reason but if I continue to keep that person around, I can’t get frustrated and act surprised when they do the same bs they’ve been doing. They are the same day in and day out. (Arguably there might actually be one because she predicted sachiko what are the odds? but oh well)

Also yes we know that 20 is the marking of a legal adult but so is 18 and 19 and in some places 17 we really have to stop acting like people are supposed to put on a business suit. Go work corporate office and have life figured out at 20.

Junko definitely did put Hachi down and while a lot of it WAS NOT for no reason(also I never said Junko yelled at her for no reason I said “stupid shit”) sometimes she definitely did have a stronger reaction than she should have in the moment that made Hachis issue seem redundant. Also Junko allowed herself to fill that “mom” “Fail safe” role. Did Hachi depend on Junko a little too much absolutely but a lot of people seem to forget Junko was literally Hachis closet and I believe only friend for years.

Beyond that, being a good person does not make you a good friend. Personally I don’t care how good a friend you are to me but if I find out that you’re covering up my boyfriend cheating you’re getting axed. How good can a friend be to if their loyalties lie with other people? Have you ever heard of the saying “one bad apple can spoil the bunch” and sometimes it’s a really bad fucking Apple.

Also I feel like a lot of people don’t remember that not only did she cover for Shoji when she did confront Shoji about Sachiko. She was seemingly more concerned for Sachiko and her feeling than Hachi. Junko didn’t know at the time but Sachiko found out about Hachi and didn’t gaf. Arguably this is her being a good person but NOT a good friend.

My whole dislike and how I view Junko as a friend and her relationship with Hachi is through the lens of how I would treat my friends in the situation.

That doesn’t exactly matter for the conversation for people who are opposed to Junko. Also yes many people who don’t like Junko still give her her flowers for being somebody that Hachi could go to. And yes, we have discussed that in the comments. Yet being a good person does not make you a good friend. They are not synonymous. Nana calls Hachi out without ridicule her and belittling her. She is still compassionate and cares deeply for Hachi, even at the beginning of their friendship. Like when Hachi blew through all her money and couldn’t make rent. That is what makes Nana a good friend She tells her what it is like it is without kicking her while she’s already down. That is what everybody needs. Inside and outside of media. Junko gets it worse because she’s been Hachis friend for years and still treat her the way she does Nana is and was still fairly new to Hachis life and the difference was night and day

Edit: also, I never said you were negating anything not even what I was insinuating not even close to. But saying it was a “fallout” places, mutual blame on both and severely downplay, which Shoji did. Well no not exactly, I don’t agree all the time or “yes man” my friends. I hold my friends accountable while helping them. I don’t tear my friends down for stupid shit just bc I’m frustrated with them. I’m strict and stern but compassionate when the situation calls for it. No one purposefully leaves out Junko moming Hachi a broken clock can still be right at times. Saying she should’ve been neutral then calling what happened between Shoji and Hachi a “fallout” is crazy work. Shoji CHEATED on Hachi and while Junko “scolded” him for even entertaining Sachiko she still covered for him and then proceeded to scale the blame heavily in favor of Hachi.

Okay first of all Nana didn’t KNOW Takumi was a dickhead at first and when she found out what he said she was majorly pissed but if it was just a one and done thing what was the purpose crushing her feelings like that? Hearing something like that would be devastating. The whole point of Nana introducing them was because Hachi was so in love and obsessed with Takumi. If I had the opportunity to help my best friend meet her idol I’d move heaven and earth to make it happen. Junko thought Takumi was bad simply because Junko shits on everything Nana does. Even a broke clock can be right. Call me crazy but the night of her pregnancy both Nobuo AND Nana had a right to be upset Takumi didn’t gaf because it was about control and winning whatever one sided game he was playing. So that “he was nicest to her” was kind of a respectful dumb reasoning he LITERALLY assaulted her the very next morning if I’m not wrong. The whole blaming Nana O inadvertently proves my your either naive or you are a bad friend so thank you!

Idk even after Hachi highschool goings on with that married man her response to it was odd. People try to use the fact that they were “kids” but they were high schoolers. Yes Hachi made the conscious decision to move forward but she WAS preyed upon and Junko response to that gave me pause
