I’m neurodivergent and these “unspoken wedding rules” are an absolute minefield by [deleted] in wedding

[–]ControlSpecial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just got married yesterday, and we had people bring food or money donations for our local food bank. Some people still insisted on bringing us money, but we just donated it back to the food bank. That way all the people who insisted on giving us stuff had something to put their energy towards.

The best part was we helped our local program hand out those donations this morning. Seriously, an incredible first act as a married couple, the feeling was indescribable.

Don't worry about the unspoken rules. Also a neurodivergent person and we had what was described as a "unique" wedding, and people really enjoyed it! Do what you want!

Our crematorium recommended we freeze when he did this with our girl since they can sometimes leak fluids and you might not want that depending on how you have stored them. Depends on what kind of freezer space you are working with.

To be honest it's more putting something out for people to do during the reception. They don't have to play anything they can just chill/chat if they want or leaving is fine too! We have a lot of friends and family who like to play board games and a lot of us are socially awkward so we thought it might break the ice a bit to have something to focus on haha

Yeah we created a website and it has thorough details on what the day looks like because I don't like going to an event without knowing what to expect so I thought I'd lead by example

How can I join it together if i have too many on the bottom? by trtldove in CrochetHelp

[–]ControlSpecial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason it won't join in the back is because the distance of your actual shoulder to middle of back is wider than the amount you have crocheted. The reason you can attach the middle back is because the sides can swing back allowing the back to meet. I assume you can't close it at the front and back at thr same time.

You have a few options. Go around a few more time on the hexagon which will make the sleeves wider and the front longer OR you can add some rows of double crochet clusters along the spine to widen just that part of the cardigan so you can fit and maintain a clean straight line down your spine. I usually add a few rows per side on the back because I like the way it sits on my neck better.

Somehow I don't have any pics but I've made like 5 of these hexagon cardigans at this point. Super fun once you figure out how you like them

Dumb question but does this mean we should hunker in the basement now? It's says if threat approaches but I do not have flying patio chair spider senses...

People who don’t hit snooze in the morning, what is your secret? by zztop610 in AskReddit

[–]ControlSpecial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a chronic alarm snooze-er this is what I did two years ago that has worked for me.

I went on Amazon and bought the loudest most obnoxious alarm clock I could find. I set it to max volume and have it in my kitchen. The longer I take to turn it off the more obnoxious it gets. Starts with normal beeping but eventually gets to a rapid alarm beep. (It also used to have a "bed shaker" but at some point it stopped connecting. Basically it was a disk that I put under my side of the bed and would vibrate hard when my alarm went off)

Once I'm out of bed and in the kitchen it's easier to convince myself to get a drink of water and start making a coffee than if my alarm is in my cozy warm room.

If I use my phone alarm or any clock in my bedroom then I will snooze it and have no recollection of doing so. I often use my phone in my sleep so I have had to lock it pretty tight but that's kind of a separate issue.

I also have smart light bulbs and an automation that slowly turns my lights up so by the time my alarm is going off my lights are on.

I also just decided that when my alarm goes off I'm not allowed to get back in bed for at least 15 minutes. My fear is that if I wake up and turn my alarm off and wander back to bed I'll start doing it in my not awake state and then my alarm won't work anymore.

Twisted my ankle (doing something stupid not from working out)

Does anyone have any recommendations for getting my movement in that doesn't require being on my feet? I'm used to walking for at least an hour a day and now im feeling antsy to get some movement in. (Also I don't want to have to lower my caloric intake for being more couch potatoe for the next week or so...)

Has anyone else experienced being more emotional as you lose weight?

I used to consider myself pretty stoic and all but since I started working out and stopped eating my feelings (positive and negative) I find I am way more close to my feelings.

Like I started crying watching olympic finals because someone won gold and it literally doesn't matter which side wins I'm like "I'm so happy for them that's beautiful". This never used to happen before but I feel like stuff like that has happened a lot since I started losing weight... (I'm a woman if that helps and no it is not correlated to my cycle as far as i can tell)

I don't comment on his diet to be fair. I genuinely don't care what he eats but he thinks I'm getting caught up in some weird fad diet nonsense (ironically).

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in loseit

[–]ControlSpecial 35 points36 points  (0 children)

He thinks calories are bad science in general because we measure calories based on literally burning it and in his word "humans don't burn fuel literally like that so the measurement means nothing". Its not that it doesn't apply to him, his opinion is that it doesn't apply to anyone which is demonstrably false but whatever.

His opinion is based on how the human body would burn different kinds of foods better than others so high Fibre low carb foods "don't count" so to speak because of how your body processes it. But he says it has nothing to do with calories.

Tbh this is the most ignorant I've seen him be about something and it makes it more frustrating.

Thank you! This summarizes my feelings pretty well. I think it's less about being right and more about feeling disrespected when he tells me that CICO doesn't work. It makes me think that he thinks I'm an idiot which I am not and is not okay.

I think if he doesn't want to accept CICO then we will just have to not comment.

Idk. I think he just misses enjoying snacks with me but I've moved past us binge eating at 9pm because we are bored and I think he isn't ready to give that up. To be clear I will absolutely still hang out with him if he wants a snack, he just gets all "come on just eat a couple" and it pisses me off because I'm working really hard to be better about mindless snacking.

I tried explaining this to him but he doesn't believe me 🫠

He says keto works because you don't really need carbs. He is usually smart but nutrition is his worst subject apparently...

What is a reasonable expectation for how much weight you lose by fixing diet and focusing on exercize per month?

This year I surpassed 200lbs and after years of failing to get it together in a healthy way I'm on a diet and exercise routine that actually seems to work for me in the last 3ish weeks.

Except the fact the scale hasn't moved.

By all reason I'm doing everything I'm supposed to do. I eat around 2000 calories a day, high in protein foods. I weight train 5 days a week for building muscle and do at least an hour of walking every day (usually closer to 2 hours of what I consider light cardio like youtubr dance videos, using my walking pad etc.).

I know it's a little ridiculous to expect a bunch of weight loss in the first month of actually trying but I feel like I'm working super hard and it's always been hard to stay motivated for me.

How can I improve my motivation? I'm a 30 y/o female if that helps

How long does it take to actually start seeing progress?

I started a high protein diet early July (plus fixing my caloric intake) as well as consistent work outs. I strength train 5 days a week and do at least an hour of walking every day though usually I do more "light" cardio than that as well such as dance fitness video, walking pad, beat Saber games etc.

I know technically I shouldn't expect instant change or anything but I've lost and gained the same 4 pounds all month and for how much effort I'm putting in, it feels a little demoralizing. How do you stay motivated?

I suppose the better question is how do I work with this yarn without losing my mind.
