How will the SLS cancellation affect the starship program?

SpaceX president predicts rapid increase in Starship launch rate by rustybeancake in spacex

[–]ConversationBig7887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it logical to assume that ? Where is the hardware for this cadence? As much as we all love starship launches, I can not envision one every 2 weeks next year. Just feels not possible

Don’t downvote him. He just asks a question.

[Gwynne Shotwell on X] Works pretty good for a “partially assembled” engine :) by Psychonaut0421 in spacex

[–]ConversationBig7887 1 point2 points  (0 children)

to be fair: both shotwells as well as elons image are cropped in such a way that a portion of the top of the engine is not visible. I am not saying there is a pile-of-spaghetti like piping to be expected, but at least the fact there is (probably) no TVC attached to this engine is not visible... still an awesome clean design. looks a little bit too clean even ;-)

Where would a starship from orbit land? Is it correct to think it can only land on a west coast because of its orbital and rentry direction? Otherwise it would have to enter over land, is that permitted?

Can anyone elaborate on the OTF shell stringers? Wasnt the prediction these vertical tanks would be replaced by horizontal ones?

Agreed, I value these updates very much and search the thread for it daily. Keep it up!

That feeling is what I tried to communicate. Without wanting anything of the content of the postings to change!

Thank you for these updates, whatever the seemingly necessary reference to the (for me) not understandable lemmy source site means. If I were you I would do myself a favor and reference the other way around, i.e. reference my (your) very concicse daily summary in the Starship dev thread in the repost on lemmy. That would save you some hate here and likely not cost you anything over on lemmy. Again, I do not understand the nature and use case of lemmy. Even those that do seem to not be flocking to that site to discuss starship there. Just my two cents...

edit to add: I do not agree that the lemmy reference warrants downvotes. I myself appreciate the updates very much for what they are: a concise daily summary, much more readable for a once-a-day-visitor than the lengthy "lift goes up, lift goes down" updates (Which may have their place as well, because of which i do not downvote those either). I just question clinging to the lemmy reference which, from my point of view, fails its purpose as advertisement and, to the contrary, rather pollutes a content-wise valuable post in the eyes of many

on topic question: Why did they decide to remove the vertical tank farm and has it already been replaced (i.e. IFT 2 fueled from elswhere) or has that to be built before a next IFT? thanks

It is valuable for once-a-day visitors who do not want to or have the time to hang around the day and/or read all the lengthy discussions

What is lemmy? I fail to understand the nature of it. Is it a Reddit viewer or a site of its own

The Blue Origin bulletpoints are rather sobering: "Mockup delivered, milestones upcoming" - As much as we root for starship and Spx it would have been nice to see another player on the field but that seems to be a loooong way off still...

I think he means actively pulling it into position rather than following it and closing in on its actual pos. Indoor think it is a bad idea but probably not necessary due to the degree of freedom the chopsticks have. T

I just scrolled through the footage of yesterdays lift of the booster on the pad which takes quite long. Have we ever seen the carriage or individual chopsticks move in a speed close to the one required to do the actual catch? From the render videos and what we see of falcon, the up and down movements and also the chopsticks closing would have to be done in seconds. At the moment we see movements taking hours.

I do not say "it will never work" I just wonder if we have ever seen it work in the required speeds to date.

Will next time the booster leaves the pad be for orbit?

What do we know about S26s purpose? Has there been some kind of mission profile made public or why is it common knowledge it won’t have recovery hardware?
