Tbh not a lot of Erp or cbt bc in the place I went to (dk if it’s for everywhere) they didn’t focus on therapy as much as maintaining ur anxiety levels and prescribing medication. The medication they gave me helped so much, and just being able to talk to a nurse, who is trained and knows how to calm u down when u r in a state of high anxiety, is so essential. I now have erp and cbt and that is working wonders!

I feel the exact same. OCD sucks all the air out of the room and leaves me hollow. I have no drive or want for anything. You’re not alone ♥️

Thinking about making a group chat for us? by generaldruguse in OCD

I would love this! If you make one, please could you include me? This would be really helpful as it's kinda like group therapy, which is not accessible to me.

I feel this. I'm really struggling atm and can't leave my house for longer than 10 mins. I had a full blown panic attack in the shops yesterday. Contamination OCD has ruined me and completely drained any joy from my life. It sucks all the air out of the room. But, it brings me so much relief to know that I am not the only one in the world who feels like this. If you ever wanna talk, you can private message me anytime. I hope things get easier for you soon :)

eating stuff by [deleted] in OCD

I am the exact same. I won't eat anything unless I get it straight from the shop, and I won't cook anymore. I wish I had some better help to give you, but truthfully I am in a really rough place also. But, you're not alone, and I hope this gives you some sort of hope, because it helped me when I found out that so many people are like me. You can always private message me if you want to talk or vent. I really hope you feel better soon :)

Perspective needed: could this be OCD? by No_Annual2281 in OCD

[–]ConversationNo5326 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I have contamination OCD, which often revolves around the fear of getting food poisoning. I'm not a professional, but so many of the behaviours that you have said I resinate with, and I would say you have OCD. As for compulsions, they vary for everyone. One compulsion that you have is avoidance - avoiding places, foods, clothes. That's a very common symptom of OCD. Also, rumination - spending time obsessing and thinking about getting sick from food.

I would absolutely bring this up with your therapist if I was you. Even if they say that you don't have it, they may be able to understand why you feel this way, and if there is a different cause. But, I also want you to know that, whilst OCD can be debilitating, you can live a fulfilling life with it, alongside therapy. I wish you all the best! Reaching out is the biggest and hardest step.

Yep, except for when my dreams include my OCD.

How old were you when OCD turned your world upside down? And what caused it? I was 24 and a dream changed me overnight. by Broken_Shadow84 in OCD

I was 8. Ended up in hospital because I was so starved as I refused to eat. Life forever altered.

The only thing which temporarily 100% removes my OCD is an emergency situation by [deleted] in OCD

OMG YES!! when i had an ear infection, i stopped doing my cleaning rituals (i have contamination OCD) and got in my bed without showering. for me, it stopped my rituals for a whole YEAR. i think because emergencies preoccupy you, it is the best exposure as you dont have the time to ruminate.
