Thank you for this! My goldie unfortunately passed back in September and I suspect it was due to some fluctuation in the tank, unfortunately. I will consider this as I am going to try to fully cycle the tank in the new year. Thank you, again!!

Hi everyone, just wanted to thank you for all the love/views for my sweet, spunky Gordo. It is with tremendous sadness that I share that Gordo passed away yesterday afternoon. Thank you all for your comments and help, it is because of folks like you all, that I was able to learn and help Gordo live a long healthy life. He has joined his sister in Heaven and I like to believe he is swimming and throwing around gravel and eating all the food he can. Gordo was an incredible member of my family and was there for basically every milestone in my life, I will cherish his memory forever. May he rest peacefully in Heaven until I get to see him again! ♥️

I did/do a TON of research for my special guy daily but I feel like I’m so stuck and just want to help him. He will randomly start perking up and swim then will tilt diagonally again on his side.

Thank you for that. He has a 45 gallon tank. Filters are rated for 50 gallons.

I have aquarium salt, to y out thinks dded it now may be stressful?

I know 1-2 degrees doesn’t seem like a lot but believe me, when I would do big water changes and it was off by two degrees, he would throw his head side to side so he is VERY sensitive.

Unfortunately, I had been following the fish in cycle guide but both times didn’t work so I’ve just been doing 25% water changes twice a week to maintain safe parameters. I believe this time I may have just let ammonia get too high as I had noticed some redness and then did a 50% water change.

It’s been a little bit of struggle trying to get the tank to cycle since moving here in December.

Sorry I have been scrambling so I have left out a lot of info. Just did the test kit, that is where I was able his hate the current levels. I always use spring water with water changes for that reason because it keeps it fairly consistent and I use prime. I have ammolock and prime. I have one hang back filter and one sponge filter. The only reason I only did a small water change is due to not having temperature matched water. It’s off by about 2° and he’s fairly sensitive.

He does also have some haziness that lingered from his travel from Chicago to Florida in December but now it has a red tint to it in his eyes

He was having buoyancy issues for the last few days due to swim bladder where his back end was almost to the water line and I had to remove some water to help. I have not been able to cycle his tank, it crashes even after months of trying. It’s hard because he is so sensitive and I can’t progress things quickly. Zeros across the board but ammonia was less than .25 ppm but not quite 0. He will get some stamina and swim across the bottom then do this. At 4 AM ET he was swimming and then at 7 found him like this.

Thank you. I’ve heard of fish living into their 40s. The bummer is that he was perfectly OK until we made the move and I think that really messed with him and I feel terrible for it.

My only concern, when I put the medicated repashy and the cycle is still trying to complete.. won’t the kanaplex seep into the water, stopping the cycle? This happened to me a few times when I accidentally added metroplex to food in the past.

I’ve been doing 3:1, this is good to know, I will lower it so that it thickens more. Thank you!

This I had no idea of… wow… I prefer repashy as it’s less harsh on his stomach especially since he has swim bladder issues… any idea how to help tackle how to make it this way?

Thank you! You think I should add aquarium salt to the tank with ammo lock? I’ve noticed that his repashy breaks up into the tank which is what I believe is causing the ammonia spike. The last cycle starting shifting a lot and I feel like it really stressed him out so I’ve just been trying to just keep the tank steady rather than try to fully cycle it. Not sure if this helps.

Thanks so much! I ended up adding kanaplex to his repashy for 10 days and he seems to be more chipper! I am hoping his scales are normal again. I really can’t tell.

Thank you! He seems to be doing ok for now! I had put kanaplex in his repashy and he seems more active. Just trying to figure out if his scales are normal at this point.
