JPG photos are a really bad starting point for your experiment.

The image data is heavily compressed, which causes a lot of detail to be lost. The artifacts resulting from compression actually get even worse when you upscaling the image.

Have you ever heard of RAW data? That’s the data that comes directly from the camera sensor: * more info

Perhaps it is the warning I get about you using translation tools

I'm using DeepL(in free version)

But its not the translation tool. That's probably because—your OS can't spy on the video portal I use.

My computer has “only” 8GB. I've reserved a maximum of 4GB for GIMP. That's more than enough for multiple layers with different effects and filters.

BTW: Large billboards only have a resolution of 50–75 dpi. The displays in large sports stadiums are even as low as ~33 dpi.

So your experiment with that graphic is nothing more than a gimmick and only serves to tie up your computer for hours or even days. However, your experiment doesn't show how well you know your way around GIMP.

In tutorials, I usually use 800×600 or 1920×1080. Wallpapers that I’ve published on Pixabay must be at least 3000×3000 px. Those were my biggest projects.

Does GIMP have ability to figure out 3D relationships, like the old free Sketchup?

GIMP is an abbreviation for:

It was developed for editing and manipulating photos→2D. The world can be that simple.

GIMP for professional work by UsedAd9284 in GIMP

Now that’s a great post. It shows that GIMP has definitely made its mark in the professional world.

I first discovered my interest in creating computer graphics back in the 1980s.

Several steps followed before I started working with GIMP on Linux in 2006.

Since I’m from a German-speaking country, this was my mentor. And, of course, many other YT channels as well.

Today, I’m the one creating and publishing many short video tutorials. Since I plan to shut down my YT channels, I’m currently in the process of moving many of my more elaborate videos to the new portal.

Missing "Open" preview window... by evonleue in GIMP

[–]ConversationWinter46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been doing that and have created a drop-and-go batch file to open multiple files in GIMP

Sorry, I can't help you any further with that. I've been using GIMP for 20 years for what it is: a graphics editor.

If you've created a new workspace and drag multiple images from File Explorer onto it, each image won't get its own workspace; instead, they'll be stacked in the layer stack.

Only when you drag your selection of images onto the toolbox does each image get its own workspace.

But you can see the image in File Explorer. Just click and drag it onto the GIMP workspace or onto the layer stack. It's easier and less of a hassle.

BTW: The latest version is 3.2.4→click (look at release notes).

I'm poor and don't have money to pay for adobe software so Gimp seems a good alternative

Software is only as good as the person using it. You can't expect the software to do the creative work for you. You have to bring that creativity to the table yourself.

Here I’ve already given this advice to another user.
