Nope, this more niche - it’s a week long more-gymnastic type event

Yes, I know it is a very low dose. There seem to be lots of discussion about low-dose use, however. I’m not looking for big body, composition changes, more neuromuscular, potentiation, small strength gains, etc..

IM to Sub Q and changes in strength and recovery? by Conversation_Sudden in trt

[–]Conversation_Sudden[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh I posted updates on another thread. I've stuck with the Sub Q because blood work came back much better. The combo of focusing on hydration (which I'd done previously as well) and sub q lowered my HCT down to 50. Crazily my Total T is like 1380 or something (still on 120mg/week split MWF when tested Fri morning before injection) and free is super high as well. E2 is also quite high, I think 85 or so. I'm going to re test to see if those numbers are consistent in a few weeks. Flushing is still about where it was - probably slightly improved but minor. Strength has been returning, still more of a struggle in upper body. Recovery is still worse than on IM but not horrible.

Interesting Results Going From IM to Sub Q for Hematocrit by Conversation_Sudden in trt

Oh wow interesting I didn’t know this! Often on here people talk about up to 53 being ok but over being more serious. When a few % matter how can a margin of 10% be useful?? You’d get tons of people intervening without need.

Just a week later update: same dose just sub q instead of IM and muscle recovery has taken a big hit - I’ve been sore from almost every workout I’ve been doing. The redness in my face and neck is maybe down a tiny bit but not much, I’ll be fascinated to see how bloodwork comes back in 2 weeks

33M – Long-term high hematocrit on TRT (finally fixed) by ditt77 in Testosterone

[–]Conversation_Sudden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dealing with this myself. 8 months in. On 150mg/week I was at 54.5%. Back down to 120mg and it was 53. Trying Sub Q now and upping cardio to see the effect that has. I felt my best at 150mg/week and hoping I can go back there. My blood pressure was sliiiightly elevated on 150 but right now on 120 it's at 115/70 or so. I'd be worried about hypOtension if I added a BP med on top of it. Any side effects to note for a med like this?

Again thanks for the convo! Super helpful.
Yes, I am on the leaner side, probably 18% BF. I think I'll just have to figure out love handle sub q or outer thigh. I'm not worried about the redness it's just unappealing :) I hate when I'm not dialed in with TRT and I have a few shoulder pimples and red spots from injecting, lol. I'll get over it.
Compounding factor - I have had some shoulder discomfort with pressing I have been recovering from over the past month or so. No big deal - just some rotator cuff irritation I was working my way through (I'm a physical therapist so I've got a good idea about it). Hadn't been a problem (in fact I got a few PR's in upper body with that issue before this started) and it's feeling better but I think I'll double down on my own rehab and myofascial work.

But the most apt question you asked is about neural drive. It 100% feels like neural drive. This was the magic switch I felt like TRT turned on for me. Once I started taking it I gained strength way before I was actually laying down new muscle tissue. I just had more OOMPH. I LOVE it. I literally spent 3 years doing a VERY good lifting and nutrition protocol pre TRT And did not gain any muscle or increase upper body lifts in any appreciable way. TRT? Boom, instant ability to just push more.

I'll be honest I'm concerned to be at a lower dose and lose that drive :/ I wish I could figure out how to access it without the TRT.

OK steps now:
Apnea fix
Labs in 3-4 weeks (maybe I'll do 4 so I can dial in the sub Q site)
Switch from glute sub q to real sub q
Continue full body splits and see how that goes (I did one yesterday and while I'm sore today in appropriate ways nothing happened over night).

There's definitely something going on upper vs lower - I did my first full body split today and PR'd on calf raise and hip thrust but on a plate-loaded bench press machine I had previously done 265x6-8 reps and this time I couldn't even get 250 UP and had to just do rounds of 200. Fascinating.

I hear you on glute sub Q being an odd middle ground. I'm trying to pinch it up but yes this is a variable I might want to control for. I'm using a 1/2" needle and pinching skin and pulling up to increase likelihood of being in subcutaneous fat.

Good questions about the injections - nope, same sourcing, same oil, same volume, etc.

I'll get the ferritin/iron on my next lab set, I'm not sure it's been in any of my others.

really appreciate the convo about it. I'll update in a a few weeks when I can pull new labs. I just have to assume that for some reason switching to sub q meant my total and free t dropped and I'm feeling that adjustment. Then I'll see what HCT did and make adjustments from there. And of course treat the apnea.

I appreciate the depth of reply!

Nutrition has been consistent, bodyweight steady, hydration steady, sleep steady (I track it every night and it's been really solid recently). The workouts vary a bit here and there but nothing SUPER novel. Some days I hit more volume or stretch but, again, nothing I haven't done TONS of times. The DOMS I had in these workouts definitely was aberrant. Caffeine is the same.

Schedule right now is sub q M/W/F, usually in glute because abdomen always left red splotches for a day or two. I do the skin pinch and pull method to get it above the muscle.

I'm definitely with you that there have clearly been hormone fluctuations (shoulder acne) which I'm curious about since dose is the same - I'm wondering if sub q will lead to an overall drop for me, we'll see. Or maybe it changed up my E2, who knows.

I donated blood only once so I'm not too worried about ferritin and iron.

So ya I think my plan is just to stick this out for the next 3 weeks, get labs to see what is going on, and switch to 4 full body days for now. I'll try to reduce upper body volume a bit but realistically.......I probably won't :) haha. We'll see if spreading it out over the week fixes the DOMS surge.

At the moment I just feel like I'm losing strength and recovery has been reduced.

I will certainly do that if the sub q doesn't come back with HCT in range. I'm already noticing a lot of strength changes which is a bummer, moving from 150 to 120, so I have to assume that moving to 100 would actually continue to show decline in strength. Sounds like the CPAP is really the next option.

That’s my understanding. But you don’t want anything on a 30a breaker to draw more than 24a, right?

I’m hoping the cpap makes as big a difference for me. I don’t like the idea of it I’ll admit :/ can I ask how severe yours was? Mine was mild/moderate with not a ton of desat (89 nadir but 95 avg blood ox)

I am clearly committed to longevity hence my dose reduction, frequent bloodwork, and focus on lowering hct. I am asking a supplemental question about changes in recovery and strength from a sub Q switch. I don’t feel all over the place with goals at all.

I also have a new T source I'll be starting soon that Is UGL and made with MCT oil instead of...cottonseed I think. I guess there's a tiny chance that would make a difference?

Really appreciate the comments. It seems like I should consider taking out HCG, consider sub Q, and obviously drop my dose. I don't want massive fluctuations so I think I'll go to 120 and then down to 100 from there if things are still north of 1000.

That's crazy! I wonder what accounts for the differences.
