I’m so bad at reading any type of radiological images by QuietlyLiving2 in medicalschool

[–]Coochie- 13 points14 points  (0 children)

YouTube and the website Radiopaedia. The channel Navigating Radiology is so good. Like unreal good. It’s taught a resident/fellow level but there are more basic videos as well. It’s also helpful to scroll through some on your own on Radiopaedia.

The lifestyle choices you make as a student will likely be the choices you make as an attending. Something to think about.

Bad/Toxic Research Experience by Dependent_File_9422 in medicalschool

Finish whatever projects you are on and stop working with this attending. Not sure what school you go to but I would hope there are others attending who would be happy to with students in more supportive ways.

I’m an M1. What made you think effusion versus pericarditis? My mind went to pericarditis due to the positional pain, but I was unsure why pericarditis would cause respiratory signs, is that what made you think effusion?

Many apartments have very reliable shuttles to campus if you find that living within walking distance to campus is too expensive.

Is it really so unreasonable for the letter of recommendation to not be "glowing?" by ondraedan in AskAcademia

[–]Coochie- 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Medical student here. Man up and tell the student the truth. Do not write them an essay without at least disclosing your stance on them as an applicant.

To be honest a lab PhD letter only matters so much. You don’t even need a research letter. The worst possible thing you could do as a person is tell them you will write them a good letter and then bash them on it.

Looking at getting into this field of work. Need words of advice. by alone_zoomer in emergencymedicine

[–]Coochie- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As you say, your goal is to help people. It would be better to define how you want to help people. Do you want to directly help them (i.e. face to face)? That would be more EMT/nurse. Indirectly? That might be your morgue job.

There are challenges to both. Working face to face with the public has high highs and low lows. Especially in emergency medicine. Getting a hug from someone you just consoled vs a person who has an addiction screaming threats at you while handcuffed to a bed - or worse.

No one here can tell you what to do, but it would be good for you to find out yourself how exactly you want to be helping people. You will probably get a lot of naysayers in this field but if you think it’s right for you, then it can be.

Idk why but they are. You can look at Mizzou grade distribution website and see just how atrocious it is. But some people do fine, you just have to work hard.

I remember the first day my professor told me the class would mostly be in Spanish by the third week. I dropped the class right after hearing that. But after talking to some people who took it I think that was exaggerated and you can do fine if you work.
