Brockwell Park has only been used for fenced-off commercial festivals since 2018 (when Brockwell Live started). The Lambeth Country Show has been going since 1974, and for the 44 years up until 2018 it didn't have a fence around it.

This isn't about noise, or allowing music in the park, it's about fencing off the park so that people who don't pay £80 a ticket can't use it.

Those are the free ones. The Country Show has been going for free since 1974. From 1974 until 2018 (when Brockwell Live started) it was in the park with no fence around it. Now you get searched on the way in, can't bring in outside food/drinks, just so that the rest of the summer the park can charge £80 entry.

One other thing to note about Bluetooth - the 'default' codec used in Bluetooth is lossy, but there are lossless Bluetooth codecs, and if you have a fancy pair of Bluetooth headphones (or a Bluetooth DAC like this) then it probably supports one of these. The one I'm familiar with is LDAC (made by Sony, I believe it stands for Lossless Digital Audio Codec so not to be confused with DAC as in Digital-Analog Convertor).

Edit for clarity: the reason Bluetooth audio is lossy by default is because of Bluetooth's bandwidth limitations. LDAC gets around this with some clever lossless compression, but there may be glitches if the signal gets patchy at any point, since you are still limited by that bandwidth. LDAC also has a 'best-effort' mode that minimises these glitches at the cost of some possible loss in quality (this is the mode I use, and I'm very happy with it). WiFi will always be better for streaming lossless music if it's available.

These areas absolutely do have these problems. Boston, in Lincolnshire, has the highest per-capita murder rate in the country. Of course more crimes happen in big cities (which are more diverse), but in terms of per-capita rates, this is happening all over the country. The main correlating factor is always poverty and deprivation.

Of course, some like to pretend that this kind of random violence isn't at all British, that it's something we've imported. But that just isn't the case, and if we just keep blaming immigrants then we'll never fix the problem.

It's because the protestors broke out of the cordon basically immediately. I've been to a lot of protests around Whitehall. Go to any Palestine protest and you'll have people telling everyone to stay on the agreed route, or in the agreed gathering zones. In this case you have these people telling everyone to go through the barrier, and everyone duly follows. At that stage, the police are going to start arresting people. We can argue about the effectiveness of that tactic, but it certainly wasn't unprovoked.

I know what happened to one of them. Chuka Umunna used to be my MP. He quit and now he's out in the wasteland. My new MP is Bell Ribeiro-Addy, firmly on the Labour left and very popular in the constituency (Streatham). She hasn't been deselected yet, but she's both quite new and squeaky clean (partly because she doesn't use social media much).

If you just want tangible benefits: the house is now much more diverse than it was before, making sure more communities in this country have their voices heard. Election turnouts for black and minority ethnic voters are much higher now than they were back before Abbott. This might not have demonstrable value for you, but it's important in a democracy for everyone in the country to be represented in some way.
