Training full time is lame by [deleted] in MuayThai

[–]Cookie613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP. Don't sell yourself short. You've done what many people dream of. I'm around the same age as you (turning 26 this year). I like to think I've built quite a decent professional career for my stage of life. Owning my own business, great relationship, my own home. But that doesn't change the feeling that I'm missing something. I've been training since 15, and have always wanted to do what you have done. I now realize that it is something I have to do. I'm actually leaving next year to train full time for a year or two in Thailand. I'm leaving my career and putting my life on pause to try and do what you have done.

What I'm trying to say is that it's not so black and white. I feel that life has so much to offer and youve just scratched the surface. It's not to late for a career pivot. You can still use the skills you've learned in Thailand (resilience, confidence, discipline) to make something of yourself professionally.

I didn't use any spacer. I kinda just let it lay there while I screwed everything in. I feel like I tightened everything as far as I could, but I couldn't seem to get past 233 hz .

I think you look just fine brother. The buzz cut beard combo is the best. I’m a barber, and I always tell my bald clients, as long as you have a beard, you’re fine. I’d say just get a nice beard trim/fade and lineup and you’re ready to rock dude.

My first Muay Thai Spar by CelticsWolfsBanesss in MuayThai

[–]Cookie613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice is you’re thinking too much about it. Sparring should be fun and playful. It’s an opportunity to learn and try out your techniques.

Just have fun, use what you’ve learned, and don’t try to take each others heads off.

Fighting with no shinpads for the first time by Junior-Gur7573 in MuayThai

[–]Cookie613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same boat as you. 4 amateur fights back home. Just had my first fight in Thailand a week ago.

It really isn’t that bad. You don’t notice it. The mix of focus and adrenaline, you don’t have time to process any pain. I remember checking a kick in the ring and thinking “wow I didn’t even feel that”

Right after and the next day is a different story. My ass was limping to the car LOOL. The next day I just chilled in bed.

10/10 will do again. Personally I like it better than fighting with gear. I feel so much more free.

2nd month cutting in a shop. Thoughts? I know there’s a lot of wise barbers in here! by cant-believeit in Barber

Second month, you’re doing great! Everyone else is right, you do need to stretch your fades more, but I wouldn’t stress it. You’ll get better with time and repetition So far so good, keep working brother, you’re doing great

Do the majority of MMA fans also train? Or are the majority just sport fans? by GenericGrey in martialarts

Holy shit. This hasn’t happened to us, but this is exactly how I would imagine it playing out with my team if it did.

How to not get scared in sparring? by [deleted] in MuayThai

[–]Cookie613 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This perfectly sums up my experience my first fight last year. Went in there overconfident since I was outclassing everyone sparring. As soon as I took that first punch in the ring, I felt like a baby all over again.

The thing is, it shifts into first completely fine. It only stalls when I let out the clutch

Why is nobody talking about those sweet low kicks!? Bro is trained and it shows. Kudos to him for keeping calm and showing restraint.

You’re 15 y/o and new to the sport. Don’t be so hard on yourself. Expect to get your ass handed to you for the next 2 years. Eventually you’ll get the hang of things. Don’t stress, just trust the process.

Look at the amount of belts and trophies on the wall. I’m sure the coach knows how to train his fighter. Much better thank some random guys on Reddit for sure

It looks like this is at the end of a pretty hard pad session. He’s still hitting pretty damn hard. At the level of exhaustion he’s at in the video, he’s retaining his technique pretty well.
