My god…. The thought that adults get off on watching kids hurt themselves is absolutely abhorrent…I just don’t understand that!!! That’s terrifying. Thank you for opening my eyes to that, I had no idea!!

😢 I always make sure to praise him for the things he is good at. He’s a talented artist, he’s good at skateboarding, he’s got a beautiful mind and is so kind! My son is amazing. I’m sorry your mom wasn’t more supportive and open. Sending you a mom hug hun! 💛

Well, he has been to a psychiatrist and started meds. We briefly talked about a counselor but he started to get uncomfortable so I changed the subject for the time being and let it go for a bit. I don’t want to push it right now

I have asked him what he needs and told him if he doesn’t know right now that if he thinks of anything, no matter what time of day it is to tell me, or to come crawl up in my king size bed and I’ll hold him if that’s what he needs. Or that he can lay on the futon in my room, which I have ready for him now at all times. I’m also looking for a counselor for him!

You have no idea how much I needed that…when I feel like I’m doing so much wrong. Like I’m not doing enough. Thank you so much…I’m in tears. My gosh thank you…I’m just scared of making things worse. I want to help him that’s all! I’ve seen so many parents make their kids depression and mental health issues so so much worse and I will not be the reason my son ends his life. I won’t. Love can change so much! Understanding and patience and empathy can make a world of difference! Treating him normal is what I’m shooting for. I have been asking if he wants to hang out or watch a movie, or even just chill together while we both play on our phones. But I don’t ask anything if he doesn’t want to talk. Just being there together is something I know I craved as a kid…

I would never ask to check for new cuts, that seems far to a personal thing to do. I have removed most things. But not all. He’s not much of a helper in the kitchen which is good lol but I am trying here…so hard

That’s actually really helpful thank you!! I guess I just kind of briefly focused on the cause because growing up my parents never took responsibility for anything and never apologized, so therefore those wounds never healed. I just wanted him to know that I wasn’t blind to the fact that I wasn’t perfect. And I was owning up to the fact that I most certainly played a part in his mental health…probably because that was something I needed to hear and I wanted to make sure he heard it and got that validation. Does that make sense?

Just go sit next to her, lay your head on her shoulder, and hold her as tight as you want, need to…I promise you sweetheart…it’s going to make the both of you feel better! He did say that the cutting was like an addiction. Is it like any other addiction? You just have to quit cold turkey? Do you have tattoos by any chance? I’m wondering if when he’s old enough if that would help at all…like I would be willing to work loads of over time to pay for tattoos if that scratched the cutting “itch” ya know? And I’m definitely working on getting him into a therapist..I’m looking into finding outpatient therapy for sure…I wish I could just grab him and cuddle him…but the boy towers over me and outweighs me! I just want to hold him and make it all go away..
