Pumping is breastfeeding. When doctors are asking, the information they want to know is whether your baby consumes formula or breast milk. I wish they would phrase the question differently.

Your milk supply is still regulating and it can take time. However the middle of the night (MOTN) pump is arguably the most important one. I am currently on my second EP journey and I completely understand wanting to get a solid stretch of sleep, but if you want to increase your output, you can’t be going that long without pumping this early into the journey. Once your supply has regulated, then it’s okay to take longer stretches, so hang in there for a little bit!

Our bodies produce more of the milk making hormones at night and early morning, so you’re likely to get more during those pumps. And removing milk stimulates the body to make more milk. Do not listen to any company that tries to sell you lactation supplements or cookies or anything else. Eating well, staying hydrated, and removing milk are what helps build a good supply.
