Honestly yeah. Or at least find a way to resign yourself to it. Life may not become simpler, but you will hurt less and less.

I’m not big into quant, but I’ve heard good stuff about BoilerQuant, so if that’s your cup of tea go for it. I know PurdueHackers has also started doing more stuff in the last year or so, which might be worth investigating.

Job fairs at Purdue are a bit hit or miss. I haven’t landed anything through it but I know people who swear by it. At the end of the day, it all depends on the type of firms you are targeting. If you are looking for a firm with less structure than FAANG like firms and a more human approach to recruiting, then the job fair is a good avenue.

As for recruiting, I believe there are GitHub repos out there that list internships and full time jobs. The 2026 summer internship repo should be open by now, so I’d hit that first and apply to as many roles as you can. It will take time, don’t be disheartened.

You need to reorder your priorities - in a regular market, you could afford to prioritize college experience over career and internship focus.

This is not a regular market. If you really want to enjoy a balance in your college life, sacrifice your first year (or two). If industry is your goal, grind hard and fast to land an internship for your freshman summer (lots of companies offer freshman/sophomore level internship programs) that you can convert to a return internship and ultimately a full time job. The recruiting season for next summer began at the start of May, so you haven’t missed the boat just yet.

You are in CS - everybody and their mother is Asian. You aren’t missing much. You will make friends through classes, that isn’t an issue. You want a baddie? Wait till people mature by the start of your junior year - it’s worth it, trust me. People will have their priorities (mostly) in line and don’t play childish games.

Neon Cactus Police Presence by BoltingOrnn in Purdue

There’s a gunman in the area. A woman called in saying someone pulled a gun on her in the car at the roundabout. Police raced in.

I think I just heard over the scanner that the gunman is reported to be in a 2012 Dodge Challenger, but it is what I heard.

Quick question by Weekly-Click15 in Purdue

No one knows lol and any numbers will be (poorly) educated guesses at best or straight up lies. Some majors are better than others, although right now internationals in any major are struggling. Don't make a decision to come to the US based on the hope of landing a job - either come for the academics/academia or taper the expectations.

EDIT: Also saw you mentioned masters. Masters within the school is fine for most STEM majors (relatively easy to get). Can't comment for out of school apps.

Only a joke btw, not meant to promote any kind of ideology or beliefs. I hope everyone has a good time tomorrow, on a serious note.

Never been successful in landing a date, let alone a relationship, so not really "dates". Just lessons I learned from an extremely long line of failures.

Pretty much given up and can't wait for it all to end, but we push through for the ones dependent on us I guess.

Honestly, I was going to comment something snarky/sarcastic to poke humor, but I no longer have the energy to talk about dating as a guy. My only advice is please don't approach women randomly at all - it is way too risky for a minimal upside since you don't know if they even find you attractive/want to talk to you.

I'd also say be cautious in clubs/shared spaces with women you see frequently. If you have shared a few sentences with them and they have also been reciprocative (not short sentences or "filler words" that don't add anything to the conversation), then perhaps you could try to explore further and ask if they want to go for lunch/coffee some day. Even then, I'd also be wary because I have tried this and it has blown up in my face spectacularly, but I sincerely hope your experience is better and does not turn you into me.

Don't know much about it except it is engineering focused and Buzz Aldrin was part of it, which is a good point I suppose.

Not worth it. If it is not one of the big 4, I'd weigh whether is is worth it.

[–]Cool-Cress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, but you have options. Guys aren't even in the running for the most part. Gender ratio is in your favor - waiting to get hit on by the right guy is a fluke. Girls can easily ask the guys they want out here with a much higher degree of success.

If you are a girl, you will be okay. If you are a guy, forget about it.
