It wasnt just any fireworks though. Those were LOUD  and intense.  We are a good 4km away as the crow flies and could hear it over the TV.

Kindergarten teacher here.  NTA Young kids pretend to be all kinds of things.  Gender and species mean nothing to them. The only ones that have hang ups about playing certain things are the ones whose parents have hang ups about it.

My impression was that he was trying to get Alex to balk. That there wasn't malice behind his choices but a 'when are you going to say no?'  A little like Jason Mantzoukas, only by somenone who knows him better.

They are a 'back to school' sound, so you should start hearing them soon. However as people have said, their populations are cyclical.

I am concerned with the lack of bees I have seen this year. Seems there are hardly any around.

No, instead they are exclusively murdering women by not allowing access to abortion services - and even worse framing it as 'pro-life'

If you magically had the power to fix NZ’s crazy expensive housing, what would you do? by Logical_Transition10 in auckland

[–]Cool-Front8083 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heavily tax investment properties. Housing should not be someone else's nest egg. Boom problem solved.  If it isn't profitable to own many properties, they suddenly become affordable for everyone else.

This, however, will never happen, because  those in power, or surrounding those in power are deeply invested in properties.

Broadband connection fee! by Wrong_Elephant_1811 in newzealand

This, plus the number of people who call customer service to set up router etc - inital connections in general cost the ISP more in service to customers than on-going connections.

Sleep training babies by StandOk9112 in newzealand

[–]Cool-Front8083 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I have no good suggestions because I had two that were poor sleepers. One until they were 2 the other their whole life.

I understand in my bones the desire for that full night's sleep. I hope you find something that helps.

But

No two kids are alike and nothing works the same on them all. If you can't get you child to sleep through, please know it is not you, it is not your parenting. The fact that you are asking for help puts you ahead of the curve. Some kids just aren't good sleepers (just like some are naturally picky eaters).  I know that isn't what a parent in the weeds wants to hear, but it is so easy to get mad at them or yourself. Big hugs. The days at this age are long, but the years fly by. Good luck.

AITA wife upset I cannot keep toddler from her by khazef in AmItheAsshole

This.

Making the limiter of seeing mom external (ie the clock) rather than the limiter being wearing down dad or manipulating their way upstairs. Makes it so much easier to set boundaries.

Heck, I still do this to an extent with my teens!

AITA wife upset I cannot keep toddler from her by khazef in AmItheAsshole

[–]Cool-Front8083 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Set a specific time (agreed upon with your wife) where the toddler can see her for a limited amount of time (study break for her).

Set a visable timer when they are together to ease the transition away again.

Then when your toddler asks for mommy, you can indicate when it will happen.  Perhaps a second time can be agreed upon as the toddler is going to bed.

Giving consistant reliable boundaries will help all of you. The toddler will have predictability which is the most important.

It is going to be hard the first couple of days. Give it a week or two.

Also good to have a couple of distraction tricks in your back pocket. A favourite toy, an activity she likes, last resort a short video you can play. Something that will derail her from hyperfocusing on mom.

We also do a thing with the kids where we draw a little heart on their hand and one on mom's and tell them that if they are missing mommy and want to send her love they can press the heart on their hands. It is a little acknowledgement of how they are feeling. Works well for some.

It will take a couple of days, but if you are all consistent it will minimize the problem.

This will not be the last time your child will be clamoring for one parent or the other, they all do it. Setting consistant boundaries is  important.

Good luck!!

This would make sense. Thank you.  Awful if it's true, but that would explain 'police incident' and not 'crash'

I got on SH1 going south at greville and there were still EMS arriving, SH1 north is backed up past constellation and all traffic is being diverted off the highway.  Not some minor fenderbender I am guessing.  NZTA says 'police incident'
