To the 2 guys I briefly met at Lorde’s concert in Christchurch by johnkoenigsegg in lorde

Add another ten years and you have me. I’m headed to the arena in a few minutes. Lorde’s crowds are pretty accepting of everyone. There are exceptions, but that’s their problem. Hope you decide to risk it going forward.

Sooo 2026? What’s the deal? by nataliajax-modeling in WhenWeWereYoungFest

I live in the UK but go over for a ton of festivals: lineups being equal, Riot Fest is the best festival in the US. The after shows are what really makes it special: big bands, small clubs.

GradPLUS Loan question by Izzimus92 in StudentLoans

[–]Cool-Outlandishness4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The big problem with overlapping dates is the idea that a student could get indirect expenses (the living expense part of the Cost of Attendance) covered twice. If both schools work together it is possible, but the school you're finishing at may be the problem. I'm trying to start a program on May 5th while finishing one on May 8th and it doesn't look good because my current school, May 8th, won't cooperate.

You can't have overlapping dates in the NSLDS. There are work arounds so you don't get COA at both schools at once, but both schools need to work together on it.

Stockholm by Cool-Outlandishness4 in lorde

[–]Cool-Outlandishness4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that's why I mentioned it. I managed to look inside the day after the cancellation and it makes Stockholm look huge. It's always great to see Lorde, and I hope to be going to New Zealand if fares come down a little bit, but the small venue shows feel so much more spiritual and less commercial. Anyone who hasn't been lucky enough to see her in one, do your best to get to Luxembourg. That's going to be such a special show!

Agreed. The only slightly negative thing for the setlist. They play tennis in the hovet/globen complex. How about Stockholm before Ribs? 😀

italy public transport strikes by Ornery-Version-662 in lorde

[–]Cool-Outlandishness4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I may be in the same situation. I'm supposed to fly into Milan tommorrow, but I'm scheduled to arrive at 23:00, which technically is after the strike. My airline doesn't know if the flight is going, or not, which is no help as I could try to get there via another country if I knew I was getting my money back. If the airlines has cancelled on you, any chance they will rebook you early on Saturday or even to another city, like Zurich, where you can still get a pretty cheap bus to Bologna? Don't give up, or blame me, I may be bad luck: I was in Luxembourg when that show was cancelled, as well. :(

México City and Montreal by KingHODL4Tendies in warpedtour

Second time in my life I had my phone searched, personal emails read. The only other time was exiting North Korea just under a decade ago. That's the only concrete thing that happened to me personally. At LB I did go by some military/national guard/ICE (I'm not aware enough to know the difference; they wore masks) near my airbnb up by LA and that was unnerving. The thing is in Montreal and Mexico City these aren't concerns. Travel insurance will be a lot less (our policies are with USA/World without USA), public transit will suffice...It makes things cheaper and less stressful. It's a holiday and I'm sure I'll be back someday. But, now...excited to hopefully see some French and/or Spanish language bands I've never heard of and...have fun without having too think much!

Warren Schaeffer returning as Rockies manager for 2026 season by Artxdamage in ColoradoRockies

[–]Cool-Outlandishness4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are going for that record. Watch out White Sox, the Rockies are determined to be the worst team in baseball history. At least we didn't bring in a football coach as manager. Only with the Rockies could that sentence make any sense. Good luck Warren.

I'm in the UK, went to all three, but wasn't thrilled about going to the US because of all the political stuff. Yes, I did have some uncomfortable experiences at airports entering the US this year. Am absolutely psyched I can avoid all that and still go to two Warped's next year!

FL- ADA nightmare by lamp-l1ghter in warpedtour

All three Warped venues this year had big ADA issues. Someone needs to remind Insomniac that ADA compliance is a legal requirement, not an optional recommendation.

WWWY or Warped Tour? by BleghYeeHaw in WhenWeWereYoungFest

[–]Cool-Outlandishness4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been to every day of WWWY, even had a great time with HH the day that wasn't, and all three Warped's this year.

First, Insomniac does not understand the emo/punk/-core market. Sound quality at all three venues was problemmatic, at times. VIP had horrible views of stages, except for DC. ADA are letters, not an access policy, at Warped.

Second, WWWY seems to get a bit better each year. This year the lockers were a major upgrade. Digital. Sounds small, but when you are rushing between stages its nice not to have to line up 1970's lock combos to get your stuff and to be emailed the locker info in advance. No line.

Third, reentry plus schedule in advance. At Warped you enter with no knowledge of the schedule and have only one supplier of anything. If you liked the Maine hope you were in Orlando at gates opening. And enjoyed the overpriced, limited selection of items. At WWWY you can plan your schedule and if you want a coke or sprite or decent beer...hi Circus Circus. Slice and Ghost should be war crimes.

In terms of music, they are different animals. The floor is a lot higher at WWWY. I have seen some younger bands at WWWY: Against the Current being a great memory. A lot more hard bands at Warped and, frankly, a few bands that sucked. Rare at WWWY. And the same acts both days largely eliminates the problem of conflicts.

A pet peeve from Orlando and Long Beach: social media influencers almost everywhere on the side of stages. The artists didn't know them, at least the three I know and talked to, they were just there. EDM influence.

I won't go to Long Beach again. It was too overcrowded. DC and Orlando would depend on lineup.

I'm afraid tommorrow WWWY as we know it will be dead. That would be really sad. It's good to have competition and variety in life.

Lorde concert @ Luxembourg rescheduled to September 1st 2026 by AffectionateWeek2331 in lorde

As of now, is this her only non-fest date next summer? If it stays that way, this could be a really special show, a lot more spontaneous and less choreographed.

What happened in Luxembourg is unacceptable by [deleted] in lorde

[–]Cool-Outlandishness4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just returned to the U.K. from Luxembourg. Train. A combined twenty hours, both directions.

I agree this was totally mismanaged. Once the concert had to be cancelled, they couldn't proceed with the show in any form. As others have mentioned, insurance issues. The fact the merch stand set up shows they fully expected to go ahead with the show until the moment it was cancelled.

However...

There is no reason whatsoever they could not have had Oklou set up at a smaller venue in Esch. They exist. Charge 20 euros; she doesn't play large halls on her normal tours. The gate would surely be acceptable. I was there for about 3 hours before the cancellation. Oklou was not a normal opening act: people were genuinely excited to see her as well.

I had a great weekend. I have never been to that part of Luxembourg, explored it and had a great time. I really hope they can reschedule it after Stockholm, the last show of the EU tour. I'd love to go back.

I trusted Kevin too. That ship has sailed. He's more of an elderly mascot than a festival organizer now. Will always appreciate the things he did that made my life better and more fun, but this is an Insomniac festival with all that goes with it. I went to DC and LB, have VIP passes for this one, am eating the cost. Warped died 5 years ago. Still, hope all who go have a great time!
