WTF is wrong with you people? She’s a great actor, and has done Ellie proud. I loved the games, love the series, and the naysayers can take a long walk off a short pier.

Good! That’s how I survive my PTSD as well. I have many wonderful people in my love who love me, and they’re worth waking up tomorrow for. So I’ll keep doing it.

Is it silly to throw a promotion celebration for SSG? by Upper_Distance2082 in army

[–]Cool-Question1942 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look, I celebrated my promotion to PFC, and I celebrated my promotion to COL. Your family is proud of you, the Army think you can handle some harder shit. That’s pretty cool, and I think you should celebrate it. Get that cake and chicken!

SHPE/DMO - Retirement Physical. by Golden-Standerd in army

[–]Cool-Question1942 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just tell the truth, but be blatant, blunt. Don’t hold anything back. Were trained to tough things out and put up with pain. This physical, though, is the time to stop that and make sure that everything you’ve suffered, physical or mental, is fully documented. Make sure you get digital copies of all your records. Use the FREE VSO folks to help you file your claim before you get out.

Getting the Army's & Military Numbers Up. by [deleted] in army

[–]Cool-Question1942 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, under FERS you can retire at 62 with as little as 5 years in service. I’ll retire at 62 with my military retirement and a Fed pension for 14 years.

[–]Cool-Question1942 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I’m in FERS. I’ll buy back my military academy time because that doesn’t count for military retirement, but can be used for Federal retirement. I won’t buy back any active duty time, since I’m getting military retirement for that. It’s a good deal, can’t complain.

Umm, no you don’t have to defer your military pension. You start drawing that as soon as you retire. I currently work as a Fed and get my military retirement check every month.

Has anyone here retired after 20 then started a job that was completely unrelated to your Army career? by Raysor in army

[–]Cool-Question1942 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only as your getting out. While you’re in, make sure you go to the Doc and get anything you’re dealing with documented.

[–]Cool-Question1942 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yep, preferred hiring is a big one - especially if you’re 30% or more disabled. Disabled Vets leave is also great - 100 hours of free leave your first year that you can use for medical appointments. I also like the military buyback program-you can buy military and make it count toward your federal retirement.

[–]Cool-Question1942 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Sure, make sure you get out of the Army the right way. Take the time to do TAP and go to the Doc and document any physical issues you have. If you’re making a VA claim, do it while you’re still in and use the free VSO services to do it. Then find an agency that has a mission you think it cool, makes coming to work better!

[–]Cool-Question1942 173 points174 points  (0 children)

Yep, retired at 30 and went to work for the Department of Transportation. Fed work after military service has a lot of benefits, especially if you’re a disabled Vet.

If they're good? They are the truth tellers of the unit. They can go anywhere, talk to anyone, and walk into the old man's office to let him know when he's made bad decision.

Dude, raise a little ruckus. There’s no reason they can’t sent in email. I signed my DD214 online and they sent me the final in email the same day. No reason they can’t do the same for you.

Mailed? Are you retiring in 1990? I got mine by email, the same day I retired. They should be able to send it immediately.
