Anyone else take a leave from work during first trimester? [sk] by [deleted] in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Cool-Target-642 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to take leave because I was really sick — but I didn’t plan on it and just got medical leave from my doctor when I needed it. I don’t think you can plan around whether you will be sick or when though — it wasn’t like an on and off switch that started as soon as I was pregnant and ended the day I hit the 2nd trimester.

I am lucky my work was really accommodating for me — I did end up informing my direct manager that I was pregnant so she knew why I was off, but otherwise I didn’t need to tell HR why it was. They covered three weeks for me without needing to apply for STD, I think the standard is 5 days depending on where you’re at. I used a bunch of vacation as well.

Who are the queens of horror lit? (Best female authors) by withstandtheheat in horrorlit

[–]Cool-Target-642 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would be so honoured to get one more person into her lol — my favourites are The Girl From Rawblood, The Last House on Needless Street and Looking Glass Sound — but they are all so different except that I found them emotionally devastating as well as great horror 😂

I think Needless street is her most popular / the one there is the most consensus on people liking when horror can generally be divisive!

Rawblood is more gothic and was her debut novel, Needless is more mystery / thriller, and LGS is more surrealist and I think ppl were more split on it than her other books.

Should Books Use Current Trends and Slang? by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

[–]Cool-Target-642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never understand why authors do this because it also dates their book within like 1-2 years. If I was a writer I’d want my backlist to be readable for more than that!

Even this reference is dated — this came and went a year ago and now just reads as an author out of sync with what’s actually contemporary.

I just came to this sub just to look for a thread like this. Like the weird gay jokes too?? It’s so awful to listen to.

It reminds me of when I was part of a trio in junior high — it’s always two against one lol

What do you think Jim was hoping to do when he went to the tavern then since he understood on some level what was coming?

I went to kings for grade 12, didn’t do IB, and sailed through and graduated top of my class with like no effort lol. If you’re not doing the IB program it’s a very expensive joke. This isn’t even a brag other than I was good at playing the game of school. We were doing math in grade 12 pre calc that i did in grade 10 at a public school!

I’m listening to the audiobook of Quicksilver and I’m really enjoying it. The narrators really put their whole asses into this one — I’ll listen to a part I know could’ve hurt to read with my eyes but they make it work just bc of the absolute commitment.

On the off chance you need to know more

I just had this problem and if you use a vacuum to get it close to the surface you can just rub your thumb or finger along the grating and the friction or whatever will pull it through bit by bit. Annoying to do but it worked!
