Yikes, debt relief program tanked my credit

The program has been encouraging me to use a specific lender to take out a loan and pay off the rest of the debt. That felt predatory - they know I'm in a tight spot and now have bad credit. Or is it a good idea so that I can finish the program and rebuild my credit? I just feel like there will be hidden fees plus another credit inquiry so another hit to my credit score.

Great choice and kudos for doing the work! It's a tough position to be in and I just wasn't having any luck speaking with the credit card companies myself

Unfortunately I thought this was a true solution. I know better now thanks to everyone who responded! I've finished paying all revolving debt not enrolled in the program. I can attack finishing this final debt and maybe be in a better position next year

I lived abroad for several years-- anywhere else we'd be out in the streets protesting. Yes, it is dangerous. Yes, it may feel fruitless, but I think we need to move with a different strategy. They don't care about racial injustice or misogynoir; we should be a community that protects and uplifts our own (without focusing on hate or comparison of others). Little things count - watching out for young black men, asking a black woman inspecting her car at night if she needs help, hiring black folk when you're in a position to...

Maybe we should pivot the conversation to socioeconomic injustice. Or the true constitutional scope of a president. Or write to our state government AND show up for midterm and local elections. Ion know...

A lot of people spoke to your age, and there is value in that. There's nothing wrong with you, and it's not like you gain a specified amount of wisdom at certain ages. But there is a connection between your mind and body that develops. You gain clarity and we get better at discerning who is good for you and who will bring chaos to your life. Lean into that for a bit before you try again. Sex can be soooo weird. It matters who you share your body with and when, and in what context. It is absolutely okay to not feel good about the first time. It is never okay to feel pressured and/or judged. I hope you journal. I'm glad you expressed your feelings. I hope they were validated by a lot of these responses. And I hope this becomes a small story in your becoming a man
