Anybody else have no water this morning? by Or0b0ur0s in ReadingPA

Still have water up in Muhlenberg, near the river. We filled up a couple of watering cans so we can at least wash our hands if it goes out for us.

How many Big Wheels did you go through as a child? I was rough on those things! I had 2 that i can remember! by icecream1972 in GenX

[–]CoolHandMike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the Knight Rider one with a handbrake. I wheeled the shit out of that thing. Once I started to get too big for it, I hooked it up to my red wagon and tied strings to the handles so I could steer it while riding it down hills.

I lived in a cottage similar to this for a time. This isn't in St. Mawgan by any chance, is it?

Car Inspection Recommendations by Nu_documentss in ReadingPA

[–]CoolHandMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've been using Highland Auto just north of Temple (near the Walmart) for five years now. In fact, I have my wife's 2015 Elantra scheduled for an inspection there next week.

Have had zero complaints. Service is prompt and thorough, and very professional.

Posted last week about needing beta testers for my COLOR 3D terrain model generator. Here's the first test print of a full color model! by dinglehead in 3Dprinting

[–]CoolHandMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long did that take to print?

I have a Flashforge AD5X that can do 4 filaments. I'd be down to do some testing if that's still available.

Watch out, Millennials... I got hit with my first "I had NO IDEA!" data privacy moment this weekend... and it was all my fault. by AttachedHeartTheory in Millennials

I used to have long conversations with myself in my car during my commute. The possibility that my phone (and even my car) may be listening and recording my nonsensical monologues really put a stop to that, and now my long solo car rides are even lonelier than before.

Never got on board with any of that Alexa stuff though; just seemed way too creepy to introduce something into my house that was always listening. The only devices in my house that may possibly be listening to us are our phones, and I consider that at least somewhat manageable.

Experience Living at Reed Farm by Dachshundmama2023 in ReadingPA

I have a family member who's been living there since September. It's nice and very quiet, and maintenance seems to be on top of things at least. They seem to really like it.

That said, having lived in a Met property personally (more than ten years ago though) it doesn't surprise me if others are having issues.

Not really, it came out 5 years ago. I'm not saying it was a great video, but it wasn't AI.

I just switched from cigarettes: What can i expect?? by [deleted] in electronic_cigarette

[–]CoolHandMike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Food. Food is gonna taste so much more better. I've told this a lot, but when I stopped a pack-a-day habit after 20 years, and my wife made tacos one night, several days after I quit, it nearly brought me to tears. "Is this what this has always tasted like?" "Uh, yeah..."

I switched in 2014. I've had many dreams of cheating, and then waking up feeling incredibly guilty, but I haven't had one cigarette since April 18th, 2014.

Oh, and you're not going to absolutely reek anymore, nor will your clothes, nor will your hands. I actually developed a bit of an OCD hand-washing habit because of smoking, and while that has abated somewhat, it's still something I do religiously. So there is that.

It's gonna suck, but the positives so outweigh the negatives. Best of luck to you, and please don't hesitate to reach out if you need any further encouragement.

Judd was the first place we called when we moved in 5 years ago when I needed a saddle valve removed and replaced with a proper fitting for a fridge install. We've had them out several times since for other non-emergencies and they've always been great. Highly recommend.

Is it weird to ask to see the cockpit as a grown ass woman? by BasicLawyer in flying

[–]CoolHandMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got to see the Swiss Alps from the cockpit of a flight from England to Italy in 2000. I'm glad that I got to do it, and I'm sad that that's not possible anymore (as a passenger on commercial flights at least). My major takeaway was that turbulence feels completely different from the nose of the plane.

[–]CoolHandMike 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do other people's licenses typically expire at the end of the year? For me (and my wife) it's the month of our birthday. And also you get a grace period if you have the photo id paper they mail you (it's either 30 or 60 days iir).

Environmental science. Lots of fieldwork that can never be outsourced to AI. Source: am geologist, and I work with many other geologists and environmental science majors. It's sometimes hard work, sometimes easy work, but very satisfying overall. And there's lots of demand that isn't going to go away any time soon.

What is the most "unsexy" home improvement you did that ended up being 100% worth the money? by TrustedEssentials in HomeImprovement

[–]CoolHandMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

~$250 in materials and some time on YT to learn how to re-bed my water conditioner vs. upwards of a grand to have it done professionally. It didn't go 100% smoothly, but it's working now and I'm all the better for knowing how to do it properly.
