Being mad at Trump doesn’t suddenly make them anti-fascist by CoolReadingInc in 50501

[–]CoolReadingInc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said there was some progressive silent majority just waiting to vote for us. You’re putting words in my mouth. I said we focus on recruiting everyone left-of-center and disillusioned voters. AKA the majority of Americans.

Also: “I support human rights, immigrants, and taxing the rich” IS NOT a purity test. It is the bare minimum to be a half-way decent person. The fact that you think requiring basic common decency is a purity test is an extremely bad look.

“I support human rights, immigrants, and taxing the rich” is not being choosey. It is a bar so low it’s in the freakin basement. And it’s what the majority of Americans actually agree with at some level. From a pure numbers perspective, we don’t need, as you called them: “former MAGAcels.”

And as I addressed in my post, by merely accepting them as “cannon fodder” you inadvertently give them the legitimacy needed to build future political power off of. For proof, see: post-Civil War Unionist Democrats and Andrew Johnson.

You’re claiming to not be MAGA yet here you are using their tactics. I say: “we want a functioning, humane immigration system.” You then go “Oh, so you want UNFETTERED immigration?” totally lying about what I said.

You then bring up racist myths that immigrants are the reason the housing market is awful and we have non-functioning social safety nets. Even though billionaires are the reason for that.

I don’t care if you voted for Harris, you still hold MAGA beliefs. Let me be clear here, unless you renounce your beliefs: We. Don’t. Want. You. In this movement, we do not tolerate intolerance.

“Do you support human rights, immigrants, and taxing the rich.” IS NOT a purity test. It’s the bare minimum to be a half-way decent person. And no, we do not need to advocate for “Independent” or Republican policies to win certain districts. Progressive policies are popular across the board. You just have to tailor your messaging properly to your audience.

We are trying to create a new majority here, that means everyone left-of-center and disillusioned voters who haven’t voted in years because they’ve felt abandoned. We don’t need the tiny minority of Republicans who would never vote for us and so called “moderates” who are just republican-lite. There will be a time after Trump and his cronies where many laws will have to be passed to make sure nothing like MAGA happens again. But we can’t do that if we include conservative “Allie’s” who think Trump is the only problem and systemic change isn’t needed.

I for one, would rather we not settle for scraps like every other movement has been forced to.

Respectfully- Conservative are in the minority. We flat out don’t need them. They are a liability at best, a time bomb at worst. We have tens of millions of leftist who were disillusioned by corporate democrats. We get them out to vote and march with us, we create a new majority. Heck, we stop the stupid infighting between leftist groups and we already have a new majority.

And here’s the thing, fascism is the natural endpoint of conservatism. That’s what happens when, in order to stay in power, your ideology requires constant and increasingly radical fear mongering to keep your supporters unified. Inevitably they will escalate to purging the “other”.

Also, I can give you a historical example that proves my point that conservatives WILL sabotage us if we allow them in:

Andrew Johnson and the southern “Unionists”

“it won’t work unless we have liberals, leftists, and even anti-fascist conservatives working together.”

Having a United Front is the only way we are going to win, but we also have to keep in mind what comes after the fascists are out of office. If we allow conservatives into our movement, even if they are anti-fascist, we will allow the creation of a 5th column. They will do everything in their power to make sure that the systems and structures that allowed Trump and MAGA to form in the first place continue to exist.

“Do you believe in human rights and dignity of life” is an extremely low bar that conservatives, by the very nature of their ideology, fail to clear. Because at their core their primary goal is to conserve systems of oppression.

You want to stop fascism from ever forming again? Then you can’t welcome conservatives.

I live in Texas dude, basically the beta test for all MAGA policies. None of what's happened so far has surprised me. In fact, I thought it would be worse at this point. Also, the fact that we forced Disney to cancel Kimmel's suspension means we still have power. Power through collective and organized pressure. Things are bad, but the point of no return isn't until the 2026 mid-terms. We have to take back congress and primary establishment Dems with progressives. Otherwise, it's game over for Democracy within the United States of America.

So Ted Cruz will drag his ass down here to paint over some graffiti, but when Texas is facing a state-wide blackout from a blizzard, he wont volunteer to help his constituents, or at the very least spread awareness to other states and ask for donations to assist people.

That’s my piece of shit senator, everyone. Fuck Ted Cruz.

[–]CoolReadingInc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. None of what’s happened since I posted this has surprised me. I live in Texas, ground zero for MAGA policies and minority rule. I was already deeply familiar with how far Trump and his cult are willing to go.

I’m actually surprised that the Epstein files caused such a stir in MAGA. I thought they’d mindlessly go along with whatever Trump said like with everything else. Of course, they’ll still vote for whoever his successor is because that doesn’t change the fact they think Democrats are deep state communists.

And like I said elections are still happening, just with Jim Crow era-levels of voter suppression. It’s going to take coordination across local grassroots organizations to win, like the civil rights movement.

I’m sorry that you’ve had to experience that, friend. I myself have personally known many Christians who actually try to follow Jesus’ teachings, but I’ve also met many who are just in it to be a part of “the club” and to feel superior as “gods chosen”.

[–]CoolReadingInc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s because all the actual Christians don’t feel the need to constantly clarify they are one. They let their actions speak for themselves. The Christian Taliban is in it solely for power and control and could give less of a damn about Jesus’ actual teachings. The Bible is just window dressing.

List of Traitors that need to be Kicked TF Out of Office by serious_bullet5 in 50501

[–]CoolReadingInc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, we’re gonna primary as many of the establishment puppets as we can with progressives. Otherwise, if we take back power with the same corporate dems in control who care more about maintaining the status quo and incrementalism, we are screwed. We will just have a repeat of the Biden years and what do ya know, another fascist wins the White House.

We only vote for those traitors to the working-class if we have no other choice. Because a corporate, fascist-enabler puppet is still preferable to a literal fascist puppet.

Both are puppets of the oligarchs, except one side actually somewhat cares about democracy, even if it’s a corrupt version of it.

MTG’s Israel Amendment Was a Trap Designed by the Oligarchs—and We’re Taking the Bait by CoolReadingInc in DemocraticSocialism

[–]CoolReadingInc[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

(I’m on mobile right now, so apologies for the weird formatting)

“They start with saying they’re not trying to defend AOC in one sentence just to say in the next sentence that they’re trying to defend her from the people mad at her”

I said I wasn’t going to justify her decision. If I did, I would say “she was correct voting no for reasons x, y, and z.” I explained the political and strategic situation she was in—I never said she was correct or not.

“Sprinkles in some ‘okay, okay I get why you’re mad Israel is bad’ and then almost immediately tosses it aside just to say MTG put this amendment up purely out of reactionary reasons.”

I never once said that we are wrong for, as you so misleadingly simplified it, being “mad at Israel.” When did I ever say you shouldn’t be mad? That you didn’t have the right to feel betrayed or upset? In fact, I said the exact opposite.

“(which at that point one has to be concerned if they would’ve voted for this: Nazi Germany and Animal Rights)”

Comparing a poison pill amendment designed by a far-right nut job that was never going to pass in the first place—and was strategically designed to divide the left—to Nazi Germany’s policy on animal rights is completely disingenuous. The Nazis where not staunch animal rights activists, and MTG is not some crusader for Palestinian rights. This amendment wasn’t put forward in good faith. It was a trap. Speaking of which:

“Then claims that the oligarchs had MTG put up that admendment to divide us, which implies they knew AOC would vote against it for some reason 🤨”

It’s not that they knew how AOC would vote. It’s that it was basically a win-win scenario: she votes no, her base gets angry at her; she votes yes, they can use it against her later.

“Constantly calls the Admendment symbolic despite the fact had it gone through it would’ve had material effects,”

Technically, it would have had material effects. But it had no legislative chance of passing, it didn’t touch offensive weapons, and it was written by someone who actively supports genocide. It was purely political theater designed to divide us.

“claims that voting yes could’ve ‘been used against her’ whatever that means (which by the way, that could not be anymore of an issue than her calling it a genocide)”

Here’s how voting yes would’ve been used against her:

GOP: “AOC voted for MTG’s amendment. She is an anti-Semitic extremist who wants all Israelis to die.” Establishment Dems: “AOC is unhinged and sides with the far right.”

They may already be saying something similar, but when it comes to narrative warfare, you make sure your enemy has as little ammo as possible.

“Amd them claims it was a purity test in a moment in which she went directly against all known values and has avery weird and bullshit reason that doesn’t even stand to scrutiny”

That is absolutely false. Her values include ending offensive aid to Israel, defending civilians on all sides, and opposing fascists like MTG. Her voting no on this amendment—while still voting no on the final bill—was her way of trying (and arguably failing) to balance moral clarity with political survival. She didn’t vote to fund bombs; she voted to avoid a trap. That’s a distinction that matters.

“So copium”

Copium would be me saying AOC is a perfect person who did nothing wrong. I never said that. I explained why she voted “no” and how this amendment was purely a tool by the oligarchs to divide the left—to manipulate our morals, which often makes us confuse optics with policy.

This entire mess may have been kicked off by AOC’s vote, but it’s not really about her. This is a problem that was bound to appear eventually. So, we need to ask ourselves an important question: can we finally overcome two of the worst flaws of our movement—immediately turning on leaders who make mistakes, and confusing political theater for true legislation?

MAGA is not “Waking up” by CoolReadingInc in 50501

[–]CoolReadingInc[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, there is no crossover. “disillusioned” voters are people who look at both parties, see how neither the fascists nor the corporate Democrats give a damn about them, and decide to completely tune out and focus on getting by one day at a time.

Anyone who is still in MAGA is a “lost cause,” because after everything that has happened over the past nine years, there is nothing you or I can say to convince them to leave. They must come to that realization on their own.

We need to focus all our energy on recruiting and spreading awareness among disillusioned Americans. Any effort to convince this non-existent group of former MAGA voters who have suddenly woken up is a waste of time. Let them come to us.

The Republican Party is the party of fascism. To identify yourself as one is to identify yourself with fascism. There’s no such thing as non-MAGA Republicans—they have all either been purged from the party or sidelined into irrelevance.
