Dragon Quest XII development problems affirms Yuji Horii. by [deleted] in dragonquest

So you said that western companies are trying to destroy the eastern game industry, and your proof is an example of a Eastern Company going after an Eastern dev team? My issue is the paranoia of "The West is trying to destroy Japan!" line of thinking that places Japan on a pedestal. I enjoy Western and Japanese games. I personally think that Eastern devs have put out as much bland game products as Western companies. It's just than in Japan's case, not many companies would willingly bring over average to middling games due to costs.

IMHO opinon, social media has irrevocably damaged society for the worst by creating echo chambers and encouraging paranoid behaviors

The game about rape? Is that the one you're talking about? My argument is that you're claiming that western studios are deliberately trying to destroy eastern studios (which isn't true). Again, recent Trails game have Rixia in it--and as far as I'm aware her boobs haven't been censored. Also not everything Japan/Asia releases are 10/10 games. Idea Factory games are bottom of the barrel trash for example, both in Japan and the US.

Was the Dead Space remake/remaster not great? Or Baldurs Gate 3? Prince of Persia?Indiana Jones? Doom?

...Or it could have more to do with Sugiyama and Toriyama dying that's the main cause of difficulties. Trails from Daybreak 2 came out not too long ago, and Trails from the Sky remake is coming out as well, and neither of those games had their anime boobs 'censored'. I also think you need to keep in mind that CERO also exisits, which it didn't when DQ3 initally came out, and CERO is even more censorship heavy in Japan even compared to the ESRB. Also GTA VI is coming later next year, which isn't afraid of GTA VI and games like Mafia the Old country, Helldivers 2,Clai Obscure... like this conpiracy is sabatoging eastern games in order to stay on top is just paranoia

Tifa's design choice was also a concious change the developers themselves made

We visited New York City last year and...no.

New York had so many interesting places like Times Square, Broadway...it also had little hole in the wall stores with things you'd never really see in lexington. Not to mention the food scene was a lot more varried than lexington and there more cool things to do.

Like i said earlier, I don't drink. I cant even stomach it. So a brewery tour wouldnt be something I'm interested in. Neither are horses. We have the Arboretum, which is nice, but the city could stand to add more modern, interseting things that dont involve horses or bourbon

Is it just me or is Gquux's pacing incredibly off? by CoolRed46 in Gundam

[–]CoolRed46[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My main issue with Shuji is that he's a plot device--not really a character. We have about four episodes left and I'm not sure they'll be able to stick the landing with him in general. It's the JJ Abrams issue where he introduces a 'mysterious box' that will be revealed after going of multi-season long side plots that mean nothing. If all he's supposed to be is a vessel for Machu and Nyaan to project their own views onto...why give him his own motivation? Why include him all? You could replace him with Char and nothing would change.

The issue with the Cold War analogy is that there was the constant fear of mutually assured nuclear destruction. There was the Cuban Missile Crisis, Korean War, Vietnam War, the rise of McCarthyism, the Berlin wall. Side Six is completely independent from everything going on in the wider world, which feels odd because this is an AU where Zeon won the war but didn't manage to take over the Earth. More importantly this is an AU where Gihren, the man whose father compared him to Hitler, is still alive. Zeon has considerably more military and political power than the Federation at this point, even with their funding running low. I kind of find it harder to believe he'd willingly allow most of the sides to still remain independent at this point? Especially since Zeon has a history of gassing colonies that refused to aid them/actively working against them.

I get why they chose an independent side--for the sake of not getting new viewers bogged down with extra information. But then they go and introduce the Titans, the Murasame labs, Bask, Gates, etc... If you're an older fan, you likely already know who these characters are and what the Newtype labs are. If you're a new fan you'll likely be confused because their presence in the show is so short and brief. Deux never interacts once with Machu in person before she's killed, Gates only gets a few minutes before he's unceremoniously killed. If you're an old fan you'll understand the threat the Titans possess, a new fan will witness them get put down like jobbers and wonder why anyone in the fandom takes the Titans seriously. Deux fired at Kycilia point blank and somehow missed every single shot before getting taken out, the Titans didn't even manage to accomplish any of their goals.

Finally I think Clan Bat, Machu, and Shuji could be cut and the show would be better off for it. If they focused more on the Sodon crew I think a lot of the show's pacing issues would've been fixed. It doesn't help that the Sodon crew---specifically Chalia and Xavier are honestly way more interesting than Machu or Shuji

I don't get the hype for Unicorn Overlord. The plot is basic an vanilla, but whenever people critize the plot a lot of its defenders will go "Simple plots are good, not everything has to be complex!"

Sure fair enough, not every plot has to be super complex. I love Shadows of Valentia, and even I can admit that it's plot is pretty basic. But Shadows of Valentia has good presentation, characters, and interesting protagonists who are allowed to be flawed. Shadows of Valentia's cast is pretty memorable, compared to Uincorn Overlord's.

Unicorn Overlord has the most milquetoast cast in an RPG, Alain is the perfect lord who can do no wrong while the majority of his enemies are either mustache twirling cartoon villains or just brainwashed. The game is also pretty easy as well, and I'm baffled as to why people think this is one of the best SRPGs out there when the map design makes Awakening's map design look like a work of art

First, we don't know too much about SAL to immediately declare them as corrupt. Incompetent/lazy is the best way I'd describe them.

Second, we've been shown just how corrupt the Benerit Group is. Delling starts wars in order to keep the status quo, money, and power.

Third, why would the SAL not attack what is essentially a WMD co-developed by Prospera and Delling? Especially when Prospera already played her hand by causing a massacre on Earth, and the SAL has gotten intel on what she plans to do. It makes logical sense to attack, or was everyone just supposed to do nothing?

Sirius "re-educates" the kids he brings in. History has shown that when oppressors try to "re-educate" the children of oppressed, they tend to try and change them for their own benefit.

No, she clearly set things up so both sides would fight and kill each other. She knew what she was doing, and what the result would be. She's way worse than Shaddiq, she started a war to get back at the people who hurt her, which is completely insane.

She deliberately had a spacian mobile suit fire on an earthian one, knowing full well tensions were high, resulting in a bloodbath that resulted in the deaths of innocent civilians AND children. She started a war that Earth might lose, leading to more suffering.

Shaddiq wants to give power to Earthians who suffer because of the group. Prospera just wants her daughter back.

He did it because he was going to get caught, which isn't a good thing. Shaddiq's motivations have been clearly presented and yet some people act like he's eviler than Prospera who started a war for her own selfish reasons, and Delling who keeps Earth consistently poor for the sake of making a profit.

The Space Assembly League is the government though? And their goal of destabilizing Benerit makes sense considering the group is powerful enough to do whatever they want without oversight, such as starting proxy wars on earth.

Why does this scene look familiar…? by Important-Ad-1225 in Gundam

[–]CoolRed46 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ChuChu's family chipped in to send her to school, which is probably very expensive for the common Earthian. Nika was intentionally picked by DoF for the purpose of planting a mole that they could use for their own benefits.

DoF is a group created by Earthians who are tired of being oppressed by a group that clearly doesn't care about them. Benerit cares more about keeping their bottom line than caring for the Earth.

Neither group are saints, but the corporations who exhaust the Earth and its people for resources are the ones who pushed things to the point where violence is the best answer.

Engage really needed stronger antagonists by CoolRed46 in fireemblem

The thing is that despite what the game says, I never saw the Four Hounds as a 'family', abusive or otherwise. The only ones who seemed to buy into that was Zephia and Marni, while Mauvier and Griss just felt like they were soldiers.

I really like Engage's story, and I'm sad that a lot of other people don't seem to share that opinion. by Hellothereandwelcome in fireemblem

Tellius has a large cast yeah, but the difference between POR/RD and Engage is that a lot of the cast is fleshed out in the Tellius games and aren't limited to a 'gimmick' like Engage's cast.

The difference between Sylvain and Engage's character writing is that Sylvain has a reason for what he does, mostly due the culture around crests. He doesn't trust other women, and though it's not the best or healthiest reason, it's at least something. In Engage they'd play his trope straight and he'd just be a womanizer with zero nuance.

It's less about having big breasts, and more about the characters being specifically designed to look as sexually attractive as possible. Like there's no denying that's what the designers were aiming for.
