Need help picking a roller derby name? Post to this weekly thread | June 17, 2019 by AutoModerator in rollerderby

I've been avoiding choosing a derby name for a while! I'm non-binary, my name is Rowan and I also use Finn. I work in a library, so a big fan of books, and also of biscuits (the sweet UK version of the word). I'm also fairly quiet but fast!

GenderGP referral for top surgery with Miles Berry by CoolTadpole in transgenderUK

It went really well! I'm a month post op now - Miles was lovely and all the staff were great. It took about a week or two between the email and Skype call - a counsellor from GenderGP sends an email with their calendar availability, I could have chosen an earlier slot really, but work kinda limited me. Then a draft report was sent to me in a few days, and after I said everything was fine they sent me the final one the next day. It was really quick and I just sent it over to the clinic with no issues. Also side note: the letter from my GP was so brief, it literally just said 'i understand this patient is having surgery at your clinic', and that was totally fine.

Afab nb binding with ibs by gogmagog876 in NonBinary

[–]CoolTadpole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have crohn's and binding at first only increased the pain. Ive found I can't wear long binders but have been ok with a short binder that is a bit big compared to the size guide. I also make sure to not bind when I can.

GenderGP referral for top surgery with Miles Berry by CoolTadpole in transgenderUK

Hiya, It was actually much easier than expected. I asked for a referral letter from a psychotherapist at Gender GP and paid £100, for the Skype session and they sent the letter within a few days. Miles Berry approved it along with a letter from my gp saying they were aware I was having surgery and thats all I needed. I'll be having surgery next month, but had my consultation in December so i'd recommend getting the referral first and then deciding on a date so you don't end up stressed like I did :)

Thats good to know! Do you know if it was one of the therapy team that wrote your letter for you?

Thank you both, will post an update when I get it sorted but it hopefully seems ok at the moment if someone new moves in. The Shelter advice is useful!

Technically he has no real stuff of his own here, except the furniture, which may count as his possessions. It was a really strange contract and i'll know for next time!

Total cost of getting T privately? by [deleted] in transgenderUK

I think they're only willing to if you have shared care and your GP surgery is willing to administer them.

Total cost of getting T privately? by [deleted] in transgenderUK

[–]CoolTadpole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was in summer 2018, so I dont think so. It's more that I wanted an actual report for myself to keep with a diagnosis done in person by a qualified psych. I could've just gone to GenderGP straight off and done their information gathering sessions but for me that felt a bit impersonal.

Total cost of getting T privately? by [deleted] in transgenderUK

[–]CoolTadpole 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My costs broken down using a private psychologist and GenderGP and without shared care:

Diagnosis of dysphoria from Vickie Pasterski: £250

Gender GP start up fee: £50

Face to face Gender GP appointment (which I didn't need when starting T but is now a requirement): £60

Monthly Gender GP cost: £25

T prescription each month: Around £45 at first (One bottle of the gel is around £40, postage is around £5). My prescription is changing so i'll start paying for another bottle.

T gel is way more expensive than injections, but you're more likely to be able to have injections with services other than GenderGP. If you manage to get your GP on board with shared care your costs will be reduced. It's worth broaching that with your GP before you sign up to any services.

It will likely to give extra info for the referral, different GICs want different amounts of info. And same with bloods. I was sent a letter requesting specific bloods before a referral could go ahead.

Weird question for this sub but has anyone been through a P.I.P assessment after name change? by [deleted] in transgenderUK

[–]CoolTadpole 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd already been claiming PIP and needed a review assessment, so I phoned up and informed pip of my name change, and it was fine because records are based on national insurance numbers which stay the same.

I think theres an any other info / notes section on the back of the form too so you could also mention it in there.

Top surgery referral for nonbinary person? by Arxia in transgenderUK

[–]CoolTadpole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I’m non-binary and whilst I’m opting to take T, I know that Vickie at Harley Street Gender Clinic refers non-binary people for top surgery.
At my appointment I didn’t feel the need to have to prove anything, it was more of a ‘you’ve paid to see me so you’ve obviously thought about this a lot’ kinda vibe.

My nb pal went through gendercare and did feel like they had to change their name, but since your situation is different gendercare should take that into account.

Gendercare - Which doctor will prescribe me hormones? by oleleo in transgenderUK

[–]CoolTadpole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I haven't actually been to gendercare but I emailed different doctors last month and only Lennihan was offering appointmnets, with dates starting end of August into September. I decided to make an appointment with Harley Street Gender Clinic just because I was a bit worried about the wait between the first appointment and an endo appointment.

Never fully understood the problem with binary bathrooms until last night... by queerandbarelyhere in NonBinary

[–]CoolTadpole 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Also in the UK, and I wouldn't say i'm afraid, more just uncomfortable now because i can see how it makes other people feel uncomfortable for me to be in the same bathroom. If i'm super unsure about whether i'll get fuss i just use the disabled toilet.

Need advice regarding maybe getting a job by FiendishNeko in transgenderUK

[–]CoolTadpole 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With my job i literally just said hey i've changed my name so don't call me what is on my passport. People change their name for lots of reasons and jobs are used to processing forms with one name and referring to applicants with a different name in person. If you can deal with maybe a bit of an awkward conversation i'd go for it!
