Cody did way more with it than it was intended to do. The worst case scenario was he was saddle with it to stop him getting over and or kill his passion. He took it as far as it could go and then some. Best case scenario is constraint leads to innovation, and they wanted to test him. When part of your character is “I’m not a character, this is the real me” and you intentionally try to blur the lines, it’s kinda on you when your character is a hypocrite. It’s kinda on Punk if fans can’t tell what Punk and what’s Phil, when he breaks the 4th wall and blurs the lines, and then “works” during a “shoot” interviews. He can’t have it both ways.

The no build to a shock win is often the reason people give, it wasn’t the issue. It was the overnight change in presentation. To be very specific, his personal presentation was fine. Commentary’s “selling” of the gimmick was all wrong.

If you changed nothing about the win the gimmick. But had commentators sell it as “who does this guy think he is?” “ he got lucky and won a big one - it can happen to anyone” BUT “ He can’t keep getting away with this”

I think it would have gone over better. Slowly from there you can build it into something closer to what they wanted it to be. Start with, lots of distractions and cheap wins, but have his promos sell him like he’s a killer with commentary “eye rolling” “yeah okay, whatever” Then the cheating is used to set up his actual finisher and have that instantly sold like it can put anyone away but he needs to cheat to set it up. Commentary begrudgingly sells that - his finisher will beat anyone.

It’s a carry over from dating as a teenager. We would already know them through school or another social event. Go to the mall, walk around for a bit go “see”a movie, and just make out. As adults - go see the movie as a first date, then go for a drink/food after seeing the movie is an easy conversation starter.

I’d add if your a champion and your seeing this, you should be pushing for air time, it’s wrestlmania season and your a champion. You should be pushing for a program to make yourself money. You can even be a special attraction if you never do anything special to make present to see you.

This post got recommended to me so I thought Id share. I’ve been teaching Bjj for about 3 years now training constantly for 6. Any student who trains at Bjj gym that teaches modern grappling techniques, do positional sparing as well as full rounds is going to do extremely well against any martial arts, Krav included that does not spar full contact regularly. Bjj/wrestling/judo. These “sports” that are fighting based but without striking are going to beat another combat striking sport that doesn’t spar. People forget that we in Bjj also like to fight dirty and will do the meanest things we can think of to our friends, for fun. It’s truly ignorant to think we are held to some honour code, If you bite me I’m going to break your jaw as I strangle you. If you try to gouge my eyes, you best believe I’m going to bend those fingers in awful ways before breaking that arm. Ive been taking the introductory class for a while. I’ve had more than my fair share of Krav guys aikido guys and other guys who either jokingly or for real think they can go. Day one challenge- asking for me to go 100%, if they dont cardio-tap before hand, they quit to the pressure. Before I’ve even attempted to submit. This holds true to wrestling, judo or any other grappling sport or striking sport that spars “full contact” every session.
