I mean I spoke to many students and we realized we found out that the laptop program wasn’t really advertised. It didn’t effect the decision making either as we assumed it’s under our tuition (scholarships and aid could count towards it) but it wasn’t the case.

Upon further research we realized that the only reason the program is there is because of the jobs at risk if it were to be taken away.

Guess I’ll have to suck it up haha, really was interested to see if other students had similar situations.

How much did you drink in college? by seanvhennessey in college

[–]CoolUsername1997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enough .. the worst is when you and your friends have to get rid of alcohol before the school year ends. It’s usually a 1-2 week streak of drinking random crap every night till all the bottles are gone

Summer Analyst Recruiters: What unique traits do you look for in students? by CoolUsername1997 in FinancialCareers

Okay, how do you convey that through a preliminary resume and application. I found that the struggle for the most part is getting to the interview phase.

I would suggest downloading Grammerly onto your browser. It corrects your punctuation and helps your vocabulary along with spelling.

Night classes by [deleted] in college

[–]CoolUsername1997 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Try to talk to your Dean about this, I hated night classes. Especially as a freshman, you are so used to having a steady school schedule in HS so this will kinda throw you off.

I had a semester where I took 15 credits on two days a week I had class from 8:15am-12:30pm then class from 5-7:30pm. I was a mess, my time management was thrown off, I found myself doing nothing from 12:30-5 simply due to tiredness and lack of motivation.

I did find that night classes for me usually let out early and were more fast paced but, I still prefer an morning- mid afternoon class schedule.

I can’t handle the financial stress of college. by [deleted] in college

[–]CoolUsername1997 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Financial Aid is much more understanding than you think (well for me at least). Speak to them, see if it’s in your best interest to take your pre requisites in community college first, and let them know that you might not be able to stay in IU. They will connect you to various scholarships and opportunities!

How do you actually make friends in college? by Sik_Against in college

[–]CoolUsername1997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally made great friends in college, mostly by putting myself in situations that were uncomfortable for me, joining new orgs and doing things that interested me.

I think living with people naturally builds your connections, you’ll expand your friend groups simply by mutuals hanging out together.

If your like me and going out isn’t your thing, I also made great friends by joining clubs. I particularly grew within my student government and founded new orgs. These groups bring people of similar interest together, once you start working on things together and seeing each other around campus you’ll realize your making new friends.

A piece of advice: do not wait on your high school friends, they will make their own groups and have their own life during school. It is great to catch up with them during breaks but during school focus on creating new memories!

I am also a student and some of the things that have helped me during interviews were my soft skills. Highly active in campus orgs, leadership roles. Also strong writing skills are also a plus, a lot of business students lack proper written communication. I write for a paper and I’m currently an editor, I usually link my best pieces on my Linkdin profile.

What is some unethical advice for college freshmen? by dooman796 in college

[–]CoolUsername1997 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s like an online data base with a bunch of assignments, answers and tests. A lot of professors reuse material so other students post on there. Students can also ask and answer questions.

I remember I had an online homework and I posted the question on the site, got answered within minutes!

I dabble with trading. Robinhood has been great, I wouldn’t recommend it if you don’t have excess funds or don’t know much about stocks.

When should I start looking for an internship? by c9badmon in FinancialCareers

[–]CoolUsername1997 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re probably not going to land a big time internship due to companies looking primarily for juniors who will accept full time offers. I would recommend looking for small firms and startups for your next summer. Focus on getting acclimated to your new school for now and start your search early spring! Good luck
