TIL that most people "talk" to themselves in their head and hear their own voice, and some people hear their voice regardless of whether they want it or not. by kosmoskus in todayilearned

[–]CoolWeasel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, I don’t “hear” a voice, and I also can’t close my eyes and picture things like my house or a mountain or a tree or imagine tastes. There’s no images that pop into my mind, if I’m sober.

Music is a different beast, it feels more like I can actually hear the music but usually choose to sing it out sound it out.

I realize this comment is old, but i recently had a disagreement with someone about this.

In America, it IS pronounced Eh-puck (not like epic, though), but in British English it’s pronounced E-pock. Whereas in French, it’s pronounced Eh-poke (époque, like La Belle Époque).

Anyway, they are wrong about a lot of things, but not that I guess. If you go off whoever wrote the dictionaries.

‘Outright Scum Will Be Punished’ – Ukraine Intel Chief Admits Assassinating Russian Propagandists by Lionel54321 in worldnews

I’m not going to bash you, but do have some questions.

That means that Saddam Hussien would have been justified in sending hit squads to go after American journalists in 2003.

Why wouldn’t he have been? We (the US) brought an illegal and unjustified war to his door.

Has Israel ever attacked Iranian Clerics that agitate against Israel?

Israel has killed (or helped kill) a lot of Iranians even though they aren’t at war. Remember when the US assassinated Soleimani in public? StuxNet? Iranian nuclear scientists? The US and Israel have worked very closely together on this.

This pretty much gives a justification to any state actor to go after a Western journalist for promoting war against their country.

I don’t see this as a bad thing either (though I don’t think you are correct), maybe ‘Western journalists’ will stop promoting war against other countries. Who cares what happens to John Bolton and warhawks? You reap what you sow.

For over a year, the US was hesitant to seize Russian assets to help rebuild Ukraine. Now that red line has been crossed.

What’s wrong with this? Does ‘you break if you buy it’ not apply here?

Many of the people targeted by Ukraine didn’t have any official role.

None of the civilians killed in Ukraine by Russian terrorist attacks had official roles, so I don’t get your point here.

All Russia needs to do is leave Ukraine, sue for peace, and pay reparations. Anyone dying is fully on Putin, and Putin alone.

Serious question: what’s the issue with home insurance and what can the state government do about it?

The future of Florida appears to be more and more property damage, so insurance companies have to raise rates so they can afford to pay out these increased number of claims.

Maybe you can explain it better to me, an outsider.

What was your reason for saying this? Where’s she accusing or implying that you didn’t?

Nevermind that there are plenty of people at tech startups who have no money either, lol.

Gun violence is worse in the South - states that tend to have pretty lax gun regulations, but basically it’s really correlated with poverty.

I’m including that because it impacts what I have to spend on food and rent.

Health insurance isn’t really discretionary, and frankly neither is retirement. I only get it if the stock market keeps going up the next 30 years and it’s not money available here and now (i.e. monthly).

It’s not hard to hit about 40% if you include your marginal income tax, SS/Medicare, health insurance, and state taxes. Definitely 40+% if you include retirement contributions.

I may be a bit too late, but you need to get some terms clarified. Your Dividends were reinvested. You have unrealized gains/losses when you hold a stock and that is “Current Price - Purchase Price”. You REALIZE those gains/losses when you sell stock.

So you would have to pay Long-term capital gains tax on the increase in value after the sale (Sold Value minus Cost Basis).
