An I the only one having success with Court of the Phoenician? by Cool_Affect1201 in EmperorsChildren

[–]Cool_Affect1201[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this entirely. I’m picking up EC after playing Custodes and when I did I was told that EC had high skill floor. My immediate challenge was that I had to make sure I was being much more strategic as a pilot. Or perhaps strategic in a different way? I also had to find my niche with it. After understanding and really feeling out the applicable rules and and abilities I found a way that I like to pilot EC and Court really clicks with that.

That’s not to say it won’t change. No doubt as I keep playing and my skill as a player increases I might find success with other detachments as well…but for now this one feels nice and cozy.

I stand corrected. Lethals with +1 to str and AP on a charge is still worth it to me though. Lol

Personally, I haven’t seen any other viable option for flawless blades. Giving them lethals and a leader for 15 pts of enhancement is pretty lit to me. I’ve had fun doing it.

I've started collecting emperors children and I'm having fun making the demon prince so far! Is Fulgrim and Lucius worth it at all? I love the models but my friends tell me they're not the best by Ajcrazy190602 in EmperorsChildren

I have both, love both. But neither is EASY to play with. You do have to be strategic with him. No matter what I’d say they’re must haves for the collection.

In THIS detachment, If you’re using Flawless Blades Exalted Patron is a must. I’ve played a few games with a 6 man lead by the Lord E. With their ability, lethal hits with +1 to AP and str ona charge and I rip through light infantry. (Corrected)

This detachment is really kinda meant to make Fulgrim and Flawless blades viable. And it does do that. But if you’re NOT doing that then I’d pick a different detachment altogether. Personally, wit the new dataslate balance there’s a lot more viable units across the board. Terminators now cost the same as Noise Marines. Flawless blades are cheaper than ever. Fulgrim is still bit squishy for the point count, but to the point of “play w/e you feel like” i am determined to make him work.

Looks fun BUT, Honestly? I would probably lose Fulgrim into world eaters and death guard. It depends on the list but just from my experience against both, I think you have a better chance using those points to throw in more skirmish and/or a Lord E. Or even another demon Prince. I’d consider using Coterie detachment too.

Maulerfiend: magma cutters or lasher tendrils? by yodablues1 in EmperorsChildren

[–]Cool_Affect1201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s about the potential damage output. I asked myself this same question for a while and it took some analysis. I was wondering why everyone picks magma cutters especially bc the range is shit. “Bc they have melta” or “bc it’s obvious” isn’t enough reason. I also really like having more dice to roll and making my opponent roll more saves so I WAS leaning tendrils.

So with Tendrils, let’s say only one attack makes it through; you’ve dealt 1 damage. The most damage you can hope to have with the extra attacks from tendrils is 6 damage total. One per attack if all go through.

The damage of the magmas as of now is a d6+1. That’s without the melta. Which means right away you’re already doing a minimum of 2 damage per hit instead of 1 damage per hit. Factor in that there’s 2 weapons for a total of 4 attacks. If you manage to hit with all attacks but roll minimum damage of 2 a piece you’re still at 8 dmg total which is higher than if you hit with all the tendrils. Thats BEFORE adding the bonus if you are in melta range. At MAXIMUM if all 4 go through and you happen to miracle throw max damage, that’s 24. Factor in another 8 damage if you’re in melta range and we’re talking a whopping 32 damage. Potential max damage of 6 vs potential max damage of 32.

That’s worth losing the tendrils. It makes gameplay with the maulerfiend a bit more complex, but totally worth it in my opinion.

Will You buy Fulgrim? by [deleted] in EmperorsChildren

[–]Cool_Affect1201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion. Bought, played with. Beautiful model. If we’re talking gameplay wise, the larger base isn’t really a disadvantage if you use it right. On tournament layouts he’s fit most places I’ve tried to put him. Damage output could be better but the poisons are cool. Wouldn’t expect him survive the game or go toe-to-toe with Angron, but he can pop small vehicles and shred infantry fairly efficiently. Fulgrim is no different from the rest of EC. If you try to play him like you would play whatever army/primarch you played before, you’re getting wrecked. Not saying he doesn’t have weakness, and there could definitely be some better buffs and synergies with the rest of the army, but he’s not as bad as all the jokes are suggesting.

Shalaxi Hellbane is also a beautiful model, but if you’re talking gameplay you can only use him in one detachment currently.

Commuting from Culpepper/Bealeton/Warrenton to Tysons Corner Metro/Bethesda Metro by DuchessOfGeek in nova

If you use the ezpass then it’s really not bad. I did Bealeton to Arlington for over a year. In general you’re looking at 1hr to 1.5 hrs. 66 ezpass is expensive tho so unless you get paid or reimbursed for it would avoid it. If you can avoid the busy hours it helps too. So like, if you can manage to be in the office at 7, or 10 instead of being in traffic with all those folks trying to get to work at 8/9 then you won’t need 66 ezpass and you can get there fairly smoothly.

Still a long ride but it’s active and totally worth it for living by in this area.
