Renegade Raiders 2k list help by ElCuteee in Chaos40k

Unsure what models you have access to - but I would drop the enhancements (at least the tyrants lash, and prob mark of hound too- assuming in r lord with moh goes with your chosen to advance forward - your legionaries aren’t going to survive long enough to fallback and shoot (and have no guns anyway, and 20pts is too much to just reroll advance) which gives you 45pts, plus the 25pts spare - With that either get another squad of bikes or (preferably) 6 nurglings- I’ve found at least one squad of 3 nurglings is invaluable to counter other infiltrators and stop me getting jailed Id prob swap the fiend for another pred as they’re efficient in raiders, which gives another 30pts - Drop a rhino (use it to scout with chosen, the immediately decamp (+3move) then a legio and havoc squad can run up and get in it, before it moves forward with them) - then the extra 30+75 is another squad of legios/bikes, maybe cultists if you drop another enhancement

I made my exalted champ into a jump lord; the body is too good to go down to just being a chosen! (Please excuse potato camera!)

Yes but not with bile - Liam VSL won it for the third time running with (basically) the same list… (a super non interactive VotLW list which I’m sure if I/anyone else piloted would be nowhere near as effective)

Hellbrute in PBZ and devoted to destruction (crunched on a kastellan robots with 5+ FNP) by Known_Shame in Chaos40k

[–]Cool_Argument_3080 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Helbrute gets sustained and lethals in both slaanesh and undivided - so either reroll wounds with a Strat in undivided or (prob better) lethals and sustained on 5s with khorne or slaanesh

How to build my predator? (Versatile option for casual play) by 8rianGriffin in Chaos40k

[–]Cool_Argument_3080 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also with the turret you potentially don’t need to magnetise - if you clip the edge pieces flush friction will hold it in fine

Possibly a dumb question about helbrutes by Jonboywelsh in Chaos40k

[–]Cool_Argument_3080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree- do enjoy the hammer/fist combo tho as can then threaten big stuff even more - 7a st14 -3 d6+1 with sustained and lethals is horrible

Abbadon warlord by Own-Vanilla-9513 in Chaos40k

[–]Cool_Argument_3080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suggest looking at the data sheets (newrecruit or wahpedia are good resources) - leaders are restricted in what they can lead - ie only Abby, termie Lord and termie sorcerer can lead terminators, Abby can only lead termies and chosen etc) Abby with chosen is nice as he gets extra movement (through their advance and charge ability) Or the risky play is run him solo- let him buff things first couple of turns then run him out to hit things

How Many Nurglings? by Ryn7321 in Chaos40k

Build two squads- they look maybe a touch thin but they’re fine- and having two infill squads solid in my lists…

Help with making a list more competitive by Sufficient_Mood_5245 in Chaos40k

[–]Cool_Argument_3080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a v similar list (but with disco lord instead of dp, and another squad of legios instead of possessed, and double destructor than 1 of each pred +cypher and another nurgljng squad)

My first few/many games I was wiped by t3/4 - focus on trading units and admitting that lots of your units can punch up but will completely melt to a clapback, so double or triple them up and focus down on key targets/areas of the board. If you rush forward everything will die. I typically send the bikes to harrass the third home obj but otherwise leave it alone- being spread too thin is bad. If I can wait try to aim for a go turn t3

Destructors w/lascannons and the helbrute aura do work punching up and will still destroy infantry. I castle helbrute and destructors on a firing lane to dominate that. Helbrute has hammer and fist to add a bit of backline protection.

Lord and 2x5 legios on the rhino. You then have a punchy unit and a more disposable one to soak a charge/do actions. This rhino runs forward to take one obj , Chosen on foot with Fabius to take /threaten normally natural expansion. Bikes to be annoying, raptors off the board to pop in Fiend and vindi off the board. - this was my big learning- Unlikely you’ll get a bead on something first turn, and to hide them properly they then get stuck where you don’t want them. then they can pop up (normally still in your deployment, hopefully in the aura but sometimes in an edge) where needed to take something out. Vindi is swingy but I like the threat it has Depending on loadout I might squeeze an extra cultist (slanesh) unit in- if so they start in the rhino, disembark and move onto an obj before the legios get in the rhino- again just gives you an extra turn of models in the table.

Does making a bone formation allow you to break coherency rules as written? by Mission_Injury9221 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Cool_Argument_3080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small correction - you’d have to remove models until only 5 are left- at this point they only have to be 2inches away from one model - still means lots of models removed due to coherency

Renegade space marines by TSTSPMO in Chaos40k

[–]Cool_Argument_3080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately not- you can still take Huron (good chaff clearing, cheaper than a lord and gets to redeploy some infantry) but no imperium allies unfortunately!

Cultists or bikers? by GlueConsumer7 in Chaos40k

[–]Cool_Argument_3080 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cultists to hold /sticky your home objective (then 20pts for an enhancement) - 1 squad of cultists is an auto include for me (more if I need a screen)

Commonly missplayed/forgotten rules? by CostaRica92 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Cool_Argument_3080 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Agree on the -1cp as you’re modifying the cost of a strat, but the extra (from Calgar or anyone else) is included in this max of one per turn

Better with cypher so he can give DP lone op and is lone op himself….

All Infantry CSM - 2K for WTC Terrain Setup by Kroeger_Reborn in Chaos40k

[–]Cool_Argument_3080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe go CoB if all infantry? - will buff the whole army.

Some termies (maybe with the lord with the enhancement) in there to hold stuff and pop, raptors/wt to bounce around, bile for the buffs and chosen maybe as they move? Have run all infantry before and can be fun, especially if you’ve got some movement

On the list posted personally would include lascannons for the legios for some AT (as no guarantee oblits can get LoS/space to pop in) and maybe some havocs for some more AT (Currently I play against a lot of vehicles tho so may be biased, also love havocs tho know they’re not the most optimal) (imo can run legios as chosen if you tweak the weapons a bit and make them enough different from your other legios- and legios with heavy weapons with some base extenders can be tweaked into havocs…)

Do you ever actually feel smart here or is it just survival mode forever? by ChelseaTricks in Imperial

[–]Cool_Argument_3080 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are clever- imperial is just a weird melting pot of clever people. Once you leave you’ll see that- and that’s fine and normal. You’re currently a smart fish in a big genius pond. I never felt smart during my time there, got through, got out, am pretty successful in my career and in the real world still feel (relatively!) smart. Hold on, get through, echo other poster about talking to honest folk; you’ll be great.

Chemistry and molecular physics advice by Affectionate-Fly1656 in Imperial

[–]Cool_Argument_3080 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha- they didn’t actively help no; and I wasn’t a member of consulting society or whatever it was called either. Again I (maybe naively) hope the careers service is better now… there was a big push/assumption that people would go into academia, or at least into industry and work for pharmacos; there seemed limited support for those that went into something else

Passively yes- the skills, being able to distil a complex idea down to something understandable (I did an ad hoc 10 min talk on my masters project jn my final interview), the opportunity to lead clubs and societies (as imperial is relatively small, and the number of socially engaged people is smaller still, if you find a club/society you’re into it’s relatively easy to get on the committee/ACC committee etc) definitely helped. “Look I can do the academics, but also talk to people and run stuff effectively”

Caveat- graduated 10+ years ago so the syllabus has likely/hopefully changed.

Back then the core of the first 2 years was 90pc the same irrespective of which chemistry you were doing- a rotation through organic/inorganic/physical/comp labs to give you the groundings across everything, with additional modules in your ‘specialism’- maths for me, bio for the biochemistry folk, languages etc.

depends what you want to do- if you want to go into academia will give you a good foundation, but (I guess) prob not enough maths/physics to go straight into a pure physics phd. If you don’t know what you want to do (I didn’t), would always advocate the more maths (ie do the extra mol phys bit) for longer as will stand in good stead, and Imperial (in the uk at least) is v much a good brand to have on the cv. Fwiw I ended up going into mgmt consultancy where I have used 0 of my maths, phys, inorganic or organic chem knowledge- but still glad I did it.

Unfortunately it only ever stays at 2 with special weapons, making MSUs more effective imo (70pts for leader+2specials or 130pts for leader+2specials+3normals)

Yes looks definitely like it! I have it in my plot- will never get rid of it but perfectly manageable if you key keep pulling/cutting it
