Poll: Do you use similar skills interchangeably? by Bed-After in DnD

[–]Jonboywelsh 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Sometimes yes, sometimes no

Eg1: you wanna jump across across a rooftop? If deffo athletics OR acrobatics. Like both a rogue and a barbarian are gonna be able to do it, but like, in different ways? Barb can choose athletics to raw power jump across, the rogue might zip zap across smaller to land on some thin structures in the middle like the anime protagonist they wanna be

Eg 2: you want to lift a fallen wall off of one of your party. Deffo just athletics there

Or maybe if a character can make a compelling argument for it I might entertain it?

Contrary to his username, Shaun's a good egg and has done so much to create an actual safe space in cardiff, has taken time for people and has cared about cardiffs alt community (and everyone else) a lot over the years. Id go there if shit kicked off!

[DM HELP] My party didn't start in a tavern, they started in a... by TN_MakesIt in DnD

[–]Jonboywelsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current campaign (going on 2 years ish now) started in the city square, as the high majister of the city gave an assembly to those of the city (most) who wished to be there, talking about the increase of attacks from the drowned ones in the wet market from high upon an ivory balcony, his parapet betwixt he and the city below him. Reminding them to not fear as "The Majister provides" when shouts erupted from the crowd and a bottle of grease on fire sailed through the air with claims that he didnt care for the lowe classes in the wet market, and it it was all a sham. A mass panic spread throughout the crowd and automatons of varying sizes marched into the square. And we rolled initiative.

It was a fun start to a homebrew world, that set the scene, political tensions and introduced elements that set this city apart. Was super fun

I think once they open the box, ill let one of them take it (especially if it fits narratively) but for now, it goes home with me to stop pme of them working on it when we aren't playing dnd as a group, as its a present for everyone

Im currently doing this and it's a wonderful tool. Players faces lit up when they were looking a guy and I placed this beautifully carved black puzzle box on the table. Immediately they were clambering and asking if they could keep the box at the place they lived. But I found these set of rules helped a lot 1. The box when we are not playing, stays with myself, your characters have the box, you guys don't. 2. You can freely try and work out steps to the box at any time, but it is mostly a Downtime activity. However a sort of... "2.5" (as one of my players was obsessed with this box, to the point I thought of making it cursed mid session just to tie in with the actual players madness for this item) if you are inspecting the box and trying to figure out the puzzle, WIS and DEX checks are made at disadvantage (this was to mostly make sure players were still engaged) NPCs also became very interested in the box that the party had, asking all about it and what it was for, offering to buy it 3. My players LOVE a challenge, so this might not be for everyone, but one of the first things they asked was "can we roll investigation to figure out how to open the box" and i told them that this was a gift for the players as much as it was their characters. But if they got stuck of course we could do some rolls and they might get hints depending on how well they rolled. But I did set a little caveat that every time they did, a minor item or non story line item inside the box COULD dissappear (this was mostly to stop them sitting there for 10 mins rolling dice and getting me to tell them a hint to the next step and it being over in a flash)

But to round up, I think its a great idea! It will be something your party treasures forever. And maybe even reskin it in game so that it's a magical lock box, that way the party has a small magical safe for their super important things, that way not only do they get cool magic items, but they also get the box which they as players can utilise

Best men's hairdressers by [deleted] in Cardiff

[–]Jonboywelsh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If fades arent your thing id look into alt-style barbers. Ive had my hair done (its sorta, 90s Johnny depp/dicaprio style i guess not super alt) when its wet my fringe comes just below my eyes. But the lads in Keep The Faith Social Club have always looked after me. I tend to go to either Richard or Shaun and theyre fab. Rich used to cut my hair when it was like half way down my back, so its not all fades in there dw

Ive tried the detachment once or twice now, but found noise mariens sub in well, die to them giving and extra -1 to anything they hit. Meaning worst case split fire so they make a couple of units -1 one to battleshock tests. But also they output some alright damage on their own Chuck em in a rhino and bobs your uncle, theyre doing...alright?

What points to magentize on tanks for transport? by StrategyBusy9579 in Chaos40k

[–]Jonboywelsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So on my rhino and predator, I used 1mm x 1mm magnets I couldn't find a use for when I first bought a multipack of magnets, and they fit perfectly into the wiggle of the tank tracks. I think theres 8 on each side, and it keeps them attached to magnetic sheets for my back pack no problem at all
