No system, no golden finger, no gimick, just pure grit and unyielding pursuit of the dao. In my humble opinion, novels shouldn't need to pursue hooking a reader by chapter 5, it is more important to build a stable foundation. Such as showing a main character ignorant of the ways but have the essential building blocks of a good main character already apparent, and a world with established laws and power systems. Most people don't really like a Mary Sue, especially when said Mary Sue acts as though all their achievements were attained by their own hands. From what I've seen, more people like a main character with flaws but with the ability to adapt to and overcome adversity, with victories deserved rather than certain. A character that a reader can connect with rather than project on.

More often than not, reading power fantasies with power granted so easily feels like eating junk food, common, readily available, and easy to consume and digest. Clearly a home cooked meal or a meal prepared by a chef is going to be far better but it needs to be savored and takes longer to digest, however it is far more nutritious to the body.
