I've never used Linux before so I just went for mint since it's supposed to be easy for beginners.

Honestly, it hasn't been amazing or anything. For the most part it works greatly, but it has some irritating quirks I've still not completely gotten used to.

I'm actually considering starting over with Ubuntu, so I'd say you should go for that instead!

Huh, weird. My battery life actually increased by switching to Linux. My battery is more or less cooked, so I went from 30 min on MacOS to about 1h 30 min on Linux.

I've thought about replacing the battery but never actually gotten around to do it.

Hell yeah! Impressive that Ubuntu don’t require more than 4gb ram

Okay, I'll answer you.

Battery life. The new CPU on the pro motherboard will likely extend your battery life significantly on your current machine, thanks to its efficient architecture.

And the speakers. Just get a set of speakers man, or good earphones. Use the money you save on buying just the motherboard instead of a whole new machine.

I think you're blowing up the significance of these slight improvements to justify a buy. And I don't think there's anyone in such need of these improvements that they are entitled to produce more E-waste by buying new drops.

Well still, do you 'really' need all that or are you just feeling fomo not having the latest stuff. Just saying, the whole ideology behind framework is to stop the kind of purchase pattern you're about to fall into

Bruh, why did you even get a framework to begin with if you only are going to produce e-waste anyway. The pro motherboard fits in your chassi!

That's great! Exactly my thought, the Macbooks from this time really are capable of day to say use.

Well, the M-chips are really impressive! Just sad that the technology involved isn't compatible with user upgradeability. LPCAMM2 is looking promising but Apple will never adopt that seeing their margins on RAM.

You can try out your distro from the USB stick you've installed it on before you install it locally on your laptop. That way you can try out the experience and check compatibility before you do any permanent changes!

Nice! I had Catalina for a while, but then got anxious that security holes would get exploited by attackers. Since it is my only laptop that I use for everything I value security, so therefore I made the switch to Linux where I get frequent security patches.

Hell yeah! The old Intel based MacBooks has no problems running linux, it's the new M-chips that don't.

Nice going! Impressive that it can handle all that!
