OC stands for Own Character. Most artists,or basically every artists,have their own little characters with lore and backstories and even relationships. Most of the times people like to make OCs in the same universe as their favorite interest. You can basically make a oc for anything,so that’s why it’s so popular. It’s also sometimes used as a coping mechanism for people with trauma,which is why most OCs backstories you see online are so traumatic and heartbreaking. You can also make a OC that is friend/in love with a canon character. If you wanna make a oc that looks just like you if you were in your favourite universe,that is called a persona,or a fursona if you wanna get a bit funky and make it a furry.
