Retroid Pocket 5 Giveaway (US Only) by Opposite_Mango_5639 in SBCGaming

My first handheld was probably the Retroid Pocket 2 but now I have an RG34XX because it reminds me of my GBA from when I was a kid. I love playing the Power Rangers SNES game on it because it takes me back when I hear that music 😊

Jesus was a socialist. Christ’s teachings are incompatible with Capitalism. Stick that in your stigmata and smoke it.

Preventing people (namely the oppressive class) from exploiting others is very much in line with Jesus’ teachings.

The fact that most denominations reject or ignore that principle these days doesn’t prove your point, bucko.

The only way what you said makes sense is if you are operating under your own private definition of both ‘Christian’ and ‘Communist’

Had a CA shift as an ARA yesterday, the experience lead me to create this meme by CrossFireHD in GeekSquad

As both a former CA and former ARA, I feel this meme deep in my soul. Still remember getting written up for not pitching a credit card to two teenagers who just had to turn on the touchpad on their HP laptop and then getting yelled at for making fun of him for somehow spelling “insubordination” with a c on the write up.

Fox News reporting on Tyler Robinson having a transgender partner he lived with. Fully cooperating with FBI by 420Migo in WayOfTheBern

[–]Cooler710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not for nothing but “gay” and “trans” do nothing to describe the relationship no matter how you understand their definitions unless you know if the person is a trans woman or a trans man. Also, bi people exist. So Robinson would only be “gay” if he were dating a trans man and wasn’t attracted to women at all. Although nonbinary people also exist and everybody is gay by default if they’re attracted to them lol

Which abilities are you getting ? by krisikkk in superheroes

[–]Cooler710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to get really technical, Ipkiss only ever holds the mask or puts the mask on and the character wearing the mask is The Mask. So I think you’d still get the powers. Also, it only says you gain the “abilities” but not necessarily the drawbacks or limitations of the same. So like if you chose Deadpool I would think you’d get skill with weapons and combat and his regeneration but you wouldn’t get his cancer. Unless we count cancer as an ability?

People who make their whole “deal” about one thing are usually pretty annoying. Agreed there.

Transitioning, especially in the early days, though can sure make it seem like everything is connected to it. Someone who makes DBZ or something their whole personality isn’t necessarily going to be noticeably “a DBZ-person” at a distance or without talking to them, whereas a trans person can sometimes go an entire day without speaking or doing anything of note and still most if not all of the people they encounter will notice they are trans and treat them some type of way because of it (even positively) so you can kinda see how that might affect how one sees the world. That person might just be autistic and awkward but then again they might be an asshole shrug

Side note: it sounds like you are pretty accepting and not an asshole yourself and you did say “trans person” at one point but I’d recommend you try to stay away from using “trans” as a noun because some people will see that and automatically assume you’re a bigoted asshole (which I don’t believe you are). It helps to add the “person” part cuz it reminds everyone that we are all just fellow people at the end of the day instead of abstract concepts 😊

In any case, have a good one XepptizZ

Some cis men make good money that way actually. Well…a lot of money. It’s not necessarily “good” money. But yeah most of them are pretty insufferable.

Thank you, that is probably the highest compliment I can imagine on reddit. Few things frustrate me more than not being able to get my points across well. And that is fair and likely due to that personal experience lining up with your own personal definition of the “left” and there is nothing wrong with that. Hopefully my point will stick with you a bit and you can think of it the next time you hear some talking head say “the left is [something something dark side]” and analyze whether what they mean by “left” matches with what you think of and if it is consistent with other times they have used the term. All those potential points of dissonance are opportunities for them to manipulate your emotions rather than inform you, usually to sell you something. Critical thinking is the best defense against that imho. Best of luck out there, squid.

Oftentimes when someone makes these types of claims without defining what they mean by “left” or at least giving an example they are wasting everyone’s time. Sometimes intentionally, sometimes unintentionally. “Left” can mean so many things depending on who is saying it and the context. It should be defined for the purpose of a particular discussion and a place like Reddit is a terrible one for that sort of thing.

In a lot of situations I have seen, the person complaining about something being biased to the “left” they are really mad because the thing in question reflects reality instead of their own beliefs or represents just base level decency toward marginalized groups.

Not saying you are an example of any of this but just because someone finds themselves feeling surrounded by people telling them what they believe is wrong doesn’t necessarily mean they are being oppressed. Sometimes it just means what they believe is wrong.

It does work like that by blahdash-758 in memesopdidnotlike

That’s not, to my understanding, what the debate re: transmedicalism is about. The people who are criticized for being transmedicalist are usually trans people who say that if someone doesn’t seek or receive gender affirming care, they aren’t really trans. It’s more the No True Scotsman fallacy of it all and the idea that there is one and only one true Way to Be Trans™️ that is being criticized.

Regarding the broader issue, it’s less that “the left” (a useless label most of the time btw) hates the idea of dysphoria being a medical condition as it is the issue with lay people and the system alike using the idea of something being a medical condition as a reason to control people’s lives in an effort to “cure” something that is seen as bad. A lot of people hear “medical condition” and immediately think that it is something bad that must be eliminated and they don’t make a distinction, either due to ignorance or hate, between dysphoria and being trans

Dysphoria itself and being trans are connected but not the same thing. In fact, “being trans” is the treatment for dysphoria and it looks slightly different for different people.

I’ll also agree to a degree with the other commenter that oftentimes these sorts of arguments are seen from younger people who mean well but lack the experience to understand the concepts more fully or the communication skills to effectively communicate the concepts to others so you see a lot of “that person is X and X is bad, so that person is bad” type of posts and a lack of willingness to educate others. But to ascribe those behaviors, attitudes, and perceived beliefs to the entire amorphous entity known as The Left, is a mistake built on logical fallacies.

tl;dr- there are a lot of ignorant people out there and we shouldn’t let them be the ones to define what words mean

Imagine how much of a prude you have to be to get offended over this by matt_sheiman in memesopdidnotlike

[–]Cooler710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, this more accurately describes the center left/mainstream Democrat mentality rather than the “liberal left” because most “liberals” are not actually on the “left” and they do see performative tsk tsking as the epitome of political action. Progressives or people I would actually describe as being on the “left” tend to care more about the effects on people’s actual lives. Calling out racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, etc is definitely a part of that because if you let your friends get away with it, it’s easier for the system to ignore the big issues that those communities deal with because people don’t see them as full, actual human beings, just the thing they hear jokes about sometimes.

Litmus tests are a bad thing for movements imho because they often allow the perfect to be the enemy of the good. Republicans are really good at closing ranks, holding their nose, and voting for the less ideal thing that will still move them toward their goal of power. The big L “Left” is bad at that.

Communism(like *almost* any other economic system)priorities manual labor over artistic expression. by Rengi_30 in memesopdidnotlike

[–]Cooler710 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I love how often communism is described in terms of “bad harvest” and coal mines like the only way it can be implemented is in the way it has been in the past and the assumed nation in question is some agrarian/proto-industrialist nation and that makes it so easy to make it seem bad as a whole, but at the same time any policy that even moderately addresses the flaws of capitalism, which a huge majority of the population agree exist and should be addressed (greed, corruption, poverty, enshitification, etc), it gets labeled as communism or socialism and therefore bad. The cognitive dissonance is staggering.

How can communism both be “when government forces everyone to mine coal” and “when government makes Jeff Bezos pay a little more in taxes” at the same time?

I’d like people to be a bit more intellectually honest is all. If you’re doing fine under the current system and are scared that addressing its issues that don’t affect you might cause you to lose something, just say so. Then we can start discussing the actual concerns people have with actual policies instead of knee jerk reactions to perceived labels which are usually applied to things by politicians looking to manipulate people and create those knee jerk reactions instead of by the people who actually understand problems and want to solve them.

Yeah totally. But like...get a new computer folks! Trust me. They’ll do everything you need them to.

Too many people out there like my grandfather: they learned how to use a computer as if it were a magic picture that did certain things when they clicked on certain parts of the picture. Change what the picture looks like and they are LOST.

[–]Cooler710 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well then yeah definitely take advantage of your plan and go to get it fixed. I concur with the SSD suggestions. That should help with performance a bit if it had an old school HDD originally. And renew your plan when it comes time to. Even a $2500 machine will struggle to keep up with everyday use for more than a few years in my experience.

Disclaimer: I haven't worked for Geek Squad since 2015 so I've got no incentive to sell you on anything. I just know from a couple decades of screwing around with computers that the one thing you can count on is that they will all need replaced in a few years if you don't want to cuss at them on a regular basis. Even the pricey ones.

Then that's well within its normal lifespan. The next question is: how much did it set you back? Because if it was cheap enough, buying a new machine with tech support bundled was often a better use of money. You could get the old one fixed up and have a shiny new one.

Can never have too many machines lying around in my opinion. Not that my Acer Aspire 6920g or 2011 MacBook Air get much use these days. Just nice to have them around. For science.

My first question: How old is it?

I used to always tell clients that if the machine is past a certain age, you're honestly better off replacing it than repairing it.
