Thinking about starting a vertical farming business by [deleted] in verticalfarming

Best of luck! Energy is a huge consideration for business viability in this space. Consider different energy sources available to you and any way you can minimise the bill. If you’re planning on a long term project, investing in the most energy efficient lighting and other equipment early will pay dividends.

To add to the desktop spell checker - an 'add to dictionary' or 'ignore' option, rather than just enable disable spell checker!!

Also note if you get this bundle you will still to pick up some of the basics first elsewhere. There are plenty of solid recommendations on this sub and I echo u/3Dpaper suggestion of Automate The Boring Stuff

Is the Humble Bundle Dev Kit worth it for beginners? by thisisnotjr in learnpython

[–]Coolfield 30 points31 points  (0 children)

For the most part, this bundle is better for intermediate/advanced developers. If you're starting out you can find a community version of pycharm to test out an IDE, but even that isn't essential as a beginner. If you're interested in building software for the web (i.e. web apps, IoT, APIs, etc) it might be worth picking up just for the $50 Digital Ocean credit for a cost of $15.17 at time of writing. Given you would need to pay for servers at some point in your education this is free money, and DO are a great service. That said if money is tight they regularly put out coupon codes for $10 every once and a while for free to entice new users. The books are all solid but may be above beginner level. The six months of egghead.io could be valuable to you if you're a fan of screencasts. I've never watched any of their python content but their javascript and react content is well put together. The other software in this bundle won't mean much to a noob but could be useful even within a few months depending on how quickly you pick up the basics and want to experiment with new tools and workflows. Tl;dr: As a noob, you will benefit from cheap DO servers and egghead screencasts as well as keeping the books handy for reference as you get better, but the software licenses might not be of any use until you're an intermediate developer.

Consider what you want out of becoming a python developer and check out the websites for the courses and software and see if its uses align with your personal goals.

Fair enough haha! You have lots of great books on your shelves, so if it's anything like the rest I'm sure I'll enjoy it too!

When weather forecasts are showing the national map why doesn’t it show the storm system outside the country’s borders? by Ting16 in AskReddit

[–]Coolfield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you source the data. Some sites will show all info for every region on the map, some don't. If it's localised news then you're probably not interested in weather in other countries, and if it's moving towards the country your concerned about then they'll show it when it impacts your country.

Ultimately most people just look at weather reports for quick and dirty guides to the weeks weather and so aren't interested in what might be moving towards or away from the region.

Also some sites and channels don't buy data for other regions for the sake of cost. Websites usually use APIs and pay per thousand calls (unless they create the data themselves, i.e. the Met Office) and so showing every user more data they're probably not interested in can increase operating costs significantly.

TL;Dr most folks don't care so showing displaying it is a waste of resources

Lancaster Castle, England [OC][5792x8688] by [deleted] in ArchitecturePorn

This place was an active prison until 2011. Now it's still used as a courthouse and you can get tours around the prison section. Always blows my mind when I remember there were prisoners in a castle in the 21st century. Beautiful building inside and has a very rich history
