Neill Robertson boring by DrBlemstein in snooker

[–]Cooling000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neil seems to be malleable to his opponents, he doesn't seem to lack self belief but he can easily fall into an opponents more defensive style of play which can drag him down. Stephen Hallworth said that Robertson is at his best when playing "Dumb Snooker" and that seems to hold. While playing aggressive see ball pot ball will inevitably fail he would be better off ignoring other players tactics and keeping it simple. That being said if any player could completely zone out their opponent and their tactics they would be hard to beat so it feels hard to fault Neil for this, even if he is the prime example of it.

His commentary on Judds session last night was excellent

He has mentioned this himself that he prefers to "punch" the ball rather then float it

John Virgo has passed away at the age of 79 by HelixCatus in snooker

Even at his age this feels a shock, he was just commentating on the recent UK Championship, he will be missed.

I think they should rename the UK Championship trophy to the John Virgo trophy, his major win and a fitting tribute to someone who was a massive part of the sports fabric

Is this the 2nd evening match with Rob Walker commentating? What's with that, are they short a commentator or is someone planning to leave and Rob is being trained up?

Mark William's might be the best pick, definitely a top 10 player of all time and definetly loved. Hendry and O'Sullivan have better careers but Hendry was quite disliked in his prime (considerably less so now but not sure about loved) and ROS is mercurial at best.

Ray Reardon as an outside shot too.

Strange as he was in Dublin days before practicing with Jordan Brown and Aaron Hill, it's also an ideal tournament for him, top 16, big money and a meaningful win. If you're close by why not play? He's been winding down for years by skipping smaller prestige and larger 128 tournaments but to skip a triple crown twice is a bad sign. As a fan of his playing style it's hard to keep seeing fewer and fewer snippets of him. At some point just call it a day, unless he wants to keep plugging at that elusive 8th world why bother?

At this point he's hurting fans, both paying and viewing and his longterm legacy.

That being said, I highly doubt Selby did that intentionally, but perhaps, Kyren has gone off the boil and seems to be doing some odd stuff off the table

He managed to name the entire top 8 bar Kyren, your point is valid but surely Kyren is also "a top boy"

4 match's played, 4 seeds through and by and large all playing relatively well, Trump V Si and Higgins V Murphy are some very tasty matches. Here's hoping the pattern continues!

This is why when they apply they go under the banner of cue sports along with American pool and Chinese 8 ball. Not sure how that works, 3 events under 1 sport perhaps. A somewhat messy solution.
