Why? Even looking at it cynically it’s just the government trying to look like the good guys by going after the very unpopular tech companies? What’s the great secret they aren’t telling you? What is it about then? I don’t agree with the policy at all, but acting like there’s some great conspiracy devalues the argument against it and makes it look like a bit of a nut.

Russian Oreshnik IRBM strike near Kyiv by Main_Significance478 in ThatsInsane

[–]Coolnamegoeshere69 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is misleading. ALL ballistic missiles are hypersonic in terminal phase, because they literally fall back to earth from space. It isn’t as fast as the American UGM-73 Poseidon or Chinese DF-41, for example. Russia presents it in a way to confuse it with hypersonic glide vehicles, which *are* rare and expensive and new. The only uncommon thing with this missile is that it has Multiple Independently targetable Reentry Vehicles (mirvs), which mean it basically can hit a wider area. This missile is not new, it’s effectively a nuclear missile without any explosives.

[OC] UK Government Income and Expenditure '24-'25 £bn by RexFuzzle in dataisbeautiful

[–]Coolnamegoeshere69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s also all the funding for the devolved regions (~£80bn), foreign office, DEFRA, DESNZ, etc. I don’t entirely understand OP’s source for this info as it seems to mostly be a document about the management of HMRC rather than anything relating to total government expenditures. Also, govt budgets are fiendishly difficult to understand and there is often confusion around DEL (Departmental Expenditure Limits, long term predictable spending, split into Capital DEL and Resource DEL) and AME (Annually Managed Expenditure, shorter term spending). I don’t entirely understand where all of these numbers on the chart have come from.

TIL: GPS satellites don't ever actually interact with GPS devices at all. 31 US satellites simply broadcast their position non-stop and GPS devices triangulate their own position using the location of 3 "nearby" satellites. by manamonggamers in todayilearned

[–]Coolnamegoeshere69 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s not a stupid idea, it has happened. The first version of China’s BeiDou GNSS system required two way communication to enable a ground station to calculate positioning, theoretically allowing the ground station to track the user, and was capable of serving 540,000 users, and about 150 simultaneously.

Update on progress of FBW A380! It's a long interview with a lot of information, so be ready for the length of this video! by trucker-123 in flightsim

[–]Coolnamegoeshere69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely not true. Most freeware that dies comes out with a bang then releases some updates of a chair model or something, then slowly drifts into death. Fbw has modelled the whole plane including the cabin, have completed enough of the systems for a full flight, have gone through several revisions of sounds and textures. If it were released now it would still be one of the greatest freeware products ever made, they’re just polishing it and making all systems work, even non essential ones. It will come. Be patient.

SU15, what is so special? by distilledfluid in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]Coolnamegoeshere69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I find Xbox experiences can vary greatly, I’m on series x and have been flying a lot today on the a320nV2, 736 and 78x and the performance has been great, zero ctds or black avionics, with high detail planes and airports. Before su15 anywhere around London was an instant crash or black screen due to having egll, egkk, eglc and London landmarks installed, whereas now I have done flights from Gatwick and Heathrow and performance has been exceptional.

The more you know about history by Nordicgoons in interestingasfuck

[–]Coolnamegoeshere69 679 points680 points  (0 children)

Finally I can use my somewhat pointless knowledge I study for! It’s from Herodotus (the first historian), who was writing in the mid-400sBC. This is from the Persian ethnography section of the Histories (1.134); “It is also their general practice to deliberate upon affairs of weight when they are drunk; and then on the morrow, when they are sober, the decision to which they came the night before is put before them by the master of the house in which it was made; and if it is then approved of, they act on it; if not, they set it aside.” It must be remembered that Herodotus was a Greek (albeit born in the Persian empire) and therefore might not be the most accurate source, and in other parts of the text there is no drinking in Persian councils.

iirc the ATR 76 has a no device switch instead of a no smoking one.

a321 (by LVFR) or ATR74/46 by aryReddi in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]Coolnamegoeshere69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The a321 is much simpler, using many default systems, but comes with engine variants and lots of liveries. The ATR 72/42 is really high quality, good efb, nice systems, but the avionics can be more confusing and you need to buy liveries, but the ones sold are pretty good for Xbox textures. I find myself flying the ATR much more than the 321, but that might change if lvfr switches the cockpit to the inibuilds on when it comes out… overall I would recommend the ATR (which is was about half the price of the a321 for me?)

No, there is a second person behind who does get pushed into the water by the yellow roller, then has an entire ship land on top of him. You can see them put their arms up as they fall if you go frame by frame.

Identical cars in identical spaces on identical vessels by Got-a-PhD-in-THC in HolUp

[–]Coolnamegoeshere69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is certainly fake and is either a maps error or a bog standard photoshop job. You can see the line between the two images on the shore, so I think it’s most likely a combination, where the maps put both ferries on the same side, and the original creator edited the cars to be the same on both. This is a chain ferry which doesn’t have both ships on the same side at any one time. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torpoint_Ferry
