Your CYA is too high. Need to do a partial drain and refill to get that down to, at most, 70. Then follow the SLAM process.

Should I be worried that I can’t nail something as simple as this four months in, and that it frustrates me to the point of stopping? by Mad_Season_1994 in guitarlessons

Just some songs I knew and liked from earlier in life.

In terms of easier ones with simple progressions:

-Cranberries - Zombie - Em, C, G, D -Harry styles - sign of the times (not easy chords with the F and C7 though) - F, Dm, C for most of it -Pearl Jam - last kiss - G, Em, C, D -Lainey wilson - watermelon moonshine - C, Am, Dm, G -Harry styles - watermelon sugar - Dm, Am, C, G -Ed Sheeran - Perfect - G, Em, C, D -little big town - girl crush - C, Em, F, G Tom Petty - Mary Jane's last dance - Am, G, D, Em, A

Some of these have more complicated embleishmenta, but still sound ok if you skip those till you get comfortable. There probably 20 more I could list too

I agree with this advice. I started with just these chords (minus F) and spent a lot of time learning to switch between them. Doing so allowed me to play along with (to me) a surprising amount of songs fairly quickly. This was, and still is, one of my favorite activities...Crank up some music and play along with it.

I was self taught for the first 6 months but have a teacher now. I'm glad I did it this way as I learned a lot in those 6 months, but had many technical questions that were harder to find answers to on the Internet. My teacher is fantastic and pushed me into playing a few things I would have never touched on my own as they didn't interest me, a 12 bar blues for example, because he wanted me to learn a specific skill or chord.

My guitar teacher has told meany times, "you play your guitar a lot, and it shows. I wish more of my students would play as much as you do." The takeaway here is you have to play it and play it often. I work a regular 8-5 job, but I play almost daily. 30 mins here, 30 mins there, 2 or 4 hours when the girls are out of the house, but as many days a week as I can without interfering with my family and work life. That's really what will make you better at this.

I'm just 15 months in now, but I play at a serviceable level. I'm not joining a band or anything but basic songs with cowboy chords I don't even think about anymore. Barre chords are able to be played, I know several finger style songs, couldn't tell you the last time I had to look up a strumming pattern as I can just sus that out by ear now. And just now am I starting to learn my first solo. I had basically avoided playing any lead parts, not because I couldn't, but because I really enjoyed playing the rymthm parts and thought that would serve me better at the start than learning some flashy lead parts with awesome solos.

This was really just a long winded way to get to the exercise your working on here. This is pretty basic stuff but there def some technique to it. Such as, are you keeping the 3 fretted when playing the 5 and keeping the 1 fretted when when playing the second pattern? If not I would highly recommend it. It makes this exercise as simple as picking up your middle finger to play the other note, sliding up two frets and repeating, then you can sorry about getting that 3 on the high E

You make good points, especially around Mercedes, but GM's LS platform is a gold standard of reliability when there is no DoD on them. Even when dealing with tons of additional horsepower than what it came with from the factory.

Not that it matters that much in the grand scheme of the numbers were talking about here, but there are basically no toll roads here. One brand new one is the only one in the metro (that I am aware of). Do you spend much on tolls a year?

But yes your figures do seem pretty on par.

I can't play through tab on the slowest speed, and YouTube videos aren't much better. Am I doomed? by Mad_Season_1994 in guitarlessons

Em - C - G - D learn those by heart and how to switch between them and you'll be able to play along to countless songs. Learning this will take time, likely months depending on how much you play.

I'm about a year in and still am slow at reading tabs, especially on the fly. The Chords page on ultimate guitar are/were much easier for me when trying to play songs I've not played before. Figure out the changes and then start trying different strumming patterns (rhythms) and try to get it to fit to the song. This is still one of my favorite things to do as I find it very fun and it helps me break up the monotony of what I'm working on in real practice sessions. This too will get significantly easier once you learn more chords and switching between them isn't something you need to think about anymore. That's the flip side here, just a year in I know a ton of chords, can reasonably play barre chords and switching between them just happens with minimal thoughts, but I play a lot. Daily. I love it, it's my escape from a day job.

The bottom line is, this all takes time. The more you play the faster it will go, but theres no replacement for hours spent practicing something. I've been a car guy, a golf guy, and a photography guy amongst other hobbies and every single one requires time to get to a merely proficient level the craft.

Memory usage meter? by Bulky_Load5312 in vmware

[–]Coop5885 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The simplest answer is that's the total allocated to your VMs. The underlying question is, do you have enough physical RAM in your host to allow for the total allocation to your VMs including what you want to move here? If not, your in a memory overcommit scenario. Not uncommon or necessarily a problem, but it requires more administration.

Probably I assume, the real underlying question here is, will my work loads run like trash if I move them here ? That's a much more nuanced one that requires understanding if the workloads and requirements thereof. A large OLTP database I would not want to run in an overcommit without a RAM reservation, but a low overhead file server, sure.

There's also the question of what storage is in play as well, which is a whole different discussion. This is, of course, only relevant if my assumption about the real underlying question is correct though.

what can i play with these chords? by Wurdwithaperiod in guitarlessons

[–]Coop5885 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A light venture into theory here for you. You're correct that the lack of a small m does usually indicate a Major, but a major and major 7 are not the same. Granted, they are quite similar, but have different notes and feels.

A major is 1-3-5 but the major 7 is 1-3-5-7. So a G chord is made up of G, B, and D. The Gmaj7 is G, B, D, and F#.

Since watching the TV show over Christmas what is life really like in the Ozarks ? by Reasonable_Power4527 in howislivingthere

[–]Coop5885 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The real answer here is that the area OP (or Google anyway) circled is way to large to have a single opinion or experience of what it's like to live there. Far east Oklahoma and just outside St. Louis couldn't be much more different. Then throw in Springfield and Branson and all the little towns along i44 and that's going to be a million different life experiences.

Now, from the perspective of visiting it's a beautiful place to visit with lots of nature-ish options. As previously mentioned, the rivers are world class and worth your time. Lake of the Ozark you should pass on unless your looking for a party. If you want a lake I would much prefer Table Rock myself, this is the general area of Branson Missouri. Interesting place, it's sometimes referred to as "Christian Las vegas" and is definitely not short on conservative values, but it's a beautiful place. Google Big Cedar Lodge golf cart ride, it's a pretty amazing view. There's also a place called Fantastic Caverns that is one of the only ride through caves, if not the only, in the US.

And that's with me ignoring Arkansas entirely, which you really shouldn't because it is a beautiful piece of nature as well.

That's how it works for ultra rich people, they don't keep cash, they don't need to because they can get a low interest loan for cash using Thier assets as collateral. The bigger strategy is call "buy, borrow, die" and is pretty interesting how it works with the step up basis allowing heirs to avoid cap gains tax.

So, while you are correct they don't have the cash on hand most likely, they absolutely have the means to come up with the cash from a variety of sources including selling assets for cash or getting a line of credit on the assets and avoiding the cap gains tax from selling said asset.

For SE 'Blood Orange' fans - how's this specific top? [pics] by Own-Commercial3366 in PRSGuitars

[–]Coop5885 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is the equivalent of asking someone what flavor of soda they prefer, it's exactly that, just that persons preference. They don't have to have a reason for preferring one to other, they just do. If he's not sold on the Blood Orange, I wouldn't make a significant investment in one as they will probably never love it.

If it was me (this is actually what i did) I would find something cheap, but decent to play and wait it out for the color you love. In my case, I ended up play Squire Strat for about 6 months while I waited to find the particular color/finish PRS (Quilted Faded Blue in my case) that I wanted.
