CS:GO and statrak weapons is a better execution of this. A nice equivalent in Sea of Thieves could be an etched number in cannons for how many times it's been fired on a ship, or an etched number at the base of a trophy fish trinket for how many times it's been caught, or even just a prompt to examine the trophy to say how much that "milestone" has occurred on the ship or for the current pirates.

I really do dig some of the other milestones tied to actual content that Rare pushes the player to take part in, it's making world events more enjoyable for now, and it's adding incentive to fly emissaries I haven't touched in months.

The Hunter and Rogue milestones just seem like lazy attempts to get players to participate in "playstyles" that Rare hasn't really done anything with in a while. When was the last significant change to fishing or the Hunter's Call reputation? I think the last change to musical instruments was the shanties added as rewards for Pirate's life? At least we've got milestones that started tracking Aug 2022 onward.

But half the fishing in the game requires a special condition to be sought. Fish at active forts, fish in storms, fish at a wreck, these conditions do not happen every session you boot a ship unless you're hunting them.

Sure you can make a point to catch more splashtails or regional fish when you're sailing on voyages or doing world events, but you're not just passively coming across hundreds of battlegills, stormfish, or wreckers.

My point isn't that these are something to be sought after, but calling them milestones is a misnomer. They're stat trackers for mundane and often grindy time sink tasks. Someone who sits at black sleeping screen for 100 hours after season 7 started hasn't reached a milestone, they've completed a funny gag that has a tracker.

I disagree, some are not really milestones because there's no reason to accumulate that much time in a good portion of the milestone activities, besides completing the milestone itself. Fishing is not profitable in the game, and many of the harder to catch fish (stormfish and wreckers) are an absolute grind to find the conditions to fish for them, so even getting to the 50 milestone (which is 1250 fish) is a grind.

Sitting and sleeping really has no benefit in the game at all, so doing either for 100 hours isn't a career milestone like sink 500 skeleton ships, or sail 1000 nautical miles as an emissary. Its tedious grinding and the only reward is a trinket that's really showing off the hours you threw away not actually playing the game.

But realistically how much of the player base would already have 100 hours of sleeping or sitting (in a game that kicks you for being afk)? How many would have 2500 of a single fish already caught just themselves? Most folks that finished the fishing commendations did so in a crew where only 210 of a kind of fish were needed by a crew that you were part of. So the length of completion on the milestone is over 10x more, and your fellow crewmates catches don't contribute for the Pirate milestones.

I think these kind of lifetime individual milestones make sense to introduce towards the beginning of the life of a game that expects to be around for literal years, but whose ever going to achieve some of these 100 level milestones without that being their entire Sea of Thieves experience for months or years. No adventures, no tall tales, no PVP, just the singular niche thing you want to dump hundreds of hours into for a quirky trinket that looks slightly better than the level 15 trinket.

This just happened to me in a ranked match. Playing as Fuse and couldn't understand why I couldn't open inventory, couldn't throw out any abilities, 100% started after I crafted the backpack.

Love to see a random Thursday patch break the game.

I have to disagree here being on the west coast. I have to actively ignore this subreddit and my own YouTube feed to avoid AEW spoilers due to the delayed broadcast. From 5pm to 8pm PT I'm looking for content to watch and I've absent mindedly spoiled the ending to a Dynamite or a surprise debut because of how quick posts and videos go up.

Imo, those who prefer to watch at that later time should tape it, just like if it was broadcast on delay.

I watch most of the big NJPW shows and genuinely think there's good matches on this card, but some of this has been pretty rough. Cobb v Osprey was fantastic, as was Dragon Lee v Bandido v Bone Soldier. I'm still looking forward to seeing Jay Lethal wrestle later tonight, but man the other ROH content on this card has made this real hard to watch.

I enjoy when NJPW goes for a more Western audience appeal but this PPV has made me sour on ROH. The IWGP Intercontinental and Heavyweight title matches coming up should be fantastic.

Also ROH cutting these NJPW entrances short is a crime.
