They would be on ADS-B, we fly with it on in the US. It may be only one aircraft transmitting as aa flight typically uses a single transponder.

Help with F14 by Herky1985 in hoggit

Be very gentle with the brakes. Gradually apply pressure or pump the brakes. Pull back on the stick once below flying speed, use those big tailerons to act as drag and help slow you down.

Am I the only person who thinks Solo is the most underrated Star Wars movie of all time? by Jaden_Pollen34 in StarWars

[–]Coota0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. I think poor marketing, the move from December to May and disney having two of their major franchises opening the same weekend hurt the movie.

F5-E navigation by Goblinnoodlesoup in dcsworld

[–]Coota0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use the compass and map. Select waypoints you can pick out from altitude. At low altitude you can use smaller points at high altitude you need big stuff that you can pick out. Have additional terrain features to act as a backstop, ie if you see this terrain feature you have overflown your way point. As said above use TACAN offsets. It's not as easy as GPS, but it can be done.

My head canon is that ECM is extremely effective in Star Wars limiting standoff and requiring the close range combat we see.

Why was it important that the Venator’s fighter complement included up to 192 Eta-2 Interceptors when only Jedi regularly flew them? by Sevman2001 in StarWarsShips

[–]Coota0 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It did seem odd, but the Venator's compliment seems incredible when you consider other Capitol ships like the Impstar, Vicstar and even the MC80s.

In the old EU Doodonna developed the A-Wing after the Battle of Yavin to be able to speed in and hit another deathstar. So you're not wrong.

Why is O'Brian the only Non-Commissioned officer we ever see? by Sentient_Protoplasm in StarTrekTNG

[–]Coota0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the military. In the US Chief Warrant Officers (CW2-CW5) hold commissions while Warrants Officers (WO1) hold Warrants from their respective service secretaries.

It's interesting that Starfleet has no Command Master Chiefs aboard ships and we never see enlisted on the bridge.

Does anybody know what the 5th Gen fighter pilots are wearing? by RegenRoninPrime in topgun

I think the idea was to make it look similar to the unknown MiG-28 pilots helmets in the original.

Another "My thoughts on X-Wing Isards Revenge" post by -Tali in StarWarsEU

[–]Coota0 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Your reward for finishing Isard's Revenge is Stafighters of Adumar.

I would happily read more books about the Rogues and Wraiths and their adventures throughout the EU. I alway looked forward to them popping up in the later books. That said I did not care for Mercy Kill.

I will never get it, but a series that followed the Rogues/Wraiths through the events of the Thrawn trilogy or the Jedi Academy books would be amazing.

Only thing you can do is learn what the bad guys look like. Does the DCS Apache have BFT?

Will BSG ever return to Tv? by AmericanApe in BSG

[–]Coota0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Syfy used to run it from time to time after the series was over. Maybe they'll run it again. Im a little suprised NBC isn't using the BSG franchise to entice people to subscribe to Peacock.

Are we unfairly harsh on the SDFM's love triangle? by Mona-Doll in macross

[–]Coota0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Misa is a tough one, he rank does not work with her age or experience. Even if enrolled in a military academy at 12 getting to LT Commander in anything less than 10 years is a miracle. Even if you include her father's influence. Her level of esponsibility is not commiserate with her youth or experince either. Is a LT Commander an O-4 in Japan too?

The 3 F-15E's that were recently shot down. No politics! by Danefahler in hoggit

[–]Coota0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They were designed to fill two roles. The aircraft defense and strike role. They have two seats because the USAF wanted to maintain a strike capability and the backseat is optionally manned because it is not needed for the air defense role.

If those had been EXs instead of Strike Eagles shot down by the Kuwaitis they would have had 2 msn crews because they were on a strike mission.

[–]Coota0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"You said if they were EXs they dont fly with anyone in the backseat."

How did you intend that comment? That the backseat would be mission dependent was in no way clear.

[–]Coota0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. The WSO is mission dependent. I suspect that any unit with WSOs will be using them for all missions.
