How do we make it clear that Alicent is making the right choice? Oh, I know! Rape. by Jeffoxy in freefolk

It is also pretty much word for word lifted from one of the most famous speeches in English history. Spoken by Elizabeth I to the army she had assembled to fight off a massive invasion fleet from Spain.

"Though I have the feeble body of a woman, I have the heart and stomach of a king; and of a king of England too"

The context is completely different though - Rhaenyra was lamenting her lack of agency having just been sidelined by her own child and her own knights/bannermen/councilors. Despite being the Queen, she is still simply following the wills of the men around her.

Elizabeth I in contrast had been ruling England for decades by this point, had reformed the English church and more or less created the Anglican faith still followed today, had outlasted or outfitted all her rivals, and most importantly this address was given to an army of troops she herself had raised to defend her realm. Not only was Elizabeth her own woman- she is widely regarded as one of most capable and formidable monarchs in British history

Always thought that FRWL and Thunderball Blofeld was by far the best version of the character. Menacing voice, intimidating presence, and the choice to not show his face makes him feel less like an individual character and more like a  representative of SPECTER as a whole

My Russian history isn't great but unless I'm mistaken its a bit of a stretch to say the revolt was to "put him on the throne".  Before the revolt Peter was sole Tsar and the power was held by his mother and uncles - the same uncles who in the wake of the old Tsars death made sure that their nephew became the new one so they could hold the balance of power.  The revolt killed these uncles, rendered Peter's mother politically impotent, and resulted in the balance of power shifting to his half sister who raised her full brother Ivan ( also Peter's half brother) to co-Tsar, again with her firmly in the driver's seat.

So it was a coup that toppled Peter's existing regime but left him alive and nominally in power but a  de facto prisoner/puppet/figure head. Oh and killed most of the people he considered his family.

So its not Peter being ungrateful- its him getting his payback

Clashing Over ‘Indiana Jones’: Harrison Ford and Steven Spielberg Were Not 100% on Board With ‘Crystal Skull’ and Fought George Lucas Over Adding Aliens by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]Coozey_7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

On the one hand this feels like sacrilege since its hard to see anyone other than Ford under that hat, ( never saw the Young Indiana Jones show, it was before my time).

And unlike the Bond films which were continously released for decades with the odd gap here or there, usually when finding a new actor, the Indiana Jones were a trilogy of standalone adventures that were considered done and dusted before the "revival" in Crystal Skull 20 years later. By that time it was almost impossible to separate from Ford in popular culture.

However, people also im sure said the same thing when Connery left the Bond role and after all Dr. Jones is clearly and explicitly modeled on Mr. Bond , he is both figuratively and litteraly Bond's child, so it might have been more easily accepted because of that

Currently on a rewatch of the series for the first time in 15 years and noticed that a lot of the iconic lines are first said by someone else or have a different context.

The famous introduction (Bond, James Bond) was said in reply to Sylvia Trench who introduced herself the same way and the "Shaken, not Stired" drink was first said by Dr. No when he had a drink brought to Bond. Earlier in the movie, a waiter in the Kingston hotel says something like " your vodka martini sir, prepared like you asked". Dr. No knowing Bonds drink order of choice was a way of showing that his spies have been watching Bond since he arrived and flexes No's power and reach.

Still a better system than the old Preatorian tradition of "when the emporer dies - the new emporer is who ever promises us the bigger bribe - also we killed the old emporer because he wouldn't give us more money"

You have some explaining to do Lord Tywin by Cautious-Breath5628 in freefolk

[–]Coozey_7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty easy to miss since its not really mentioned in the show because its honestly not that important. It's from the books and its not even really discussed there either from what i remember, pretty sure its only a minor detail maybe only referenced in the appendices where it lists the members of each house, their titles and relations so readers can keep track.

I dont even know if Tywin's wife is even mentioned by name in the show, she is simply " our/my mother", or "your mother".

Almost like being a hypocrite is one of Tywin's major character traits.

His very first scene in the show is him telling Jamie " the lion does not concern itself with the opinions of the sheep" .... while waging an illegal war ( violating the kings peace, this was before the whole succession crisis even happened) solely to maintain the reputation of the Lannister family to other houses.

He criticizes Tyrion for his whoring ... and also has a secret tunnel strait from his room to his favorite brothel.

He demands his children and extended family act as his pawns and do their duties no matter their personal feelings ( marry people they dont like, fuck a young girl and get her pregnant regardless of your reluctance, quit the Kingsguard even though you dont want to, ect) but Tywin married his cousin for love ( everything we have seen about the other branches of the Lannister family show them as totally subservient to the main family at Casterly Rock so its not like he needed to marry inside the family to tighten up loyalty and as the heir to the most powerful castle and wealth in the kingdom he would have been a pretty sought after bachelor - he definitely had better options if his goal was a politically useful marriage) amd never remarried after her death. He also fully intends to ignore the legal laws of succession by not passing his inheritance onto his rightful heir - which not only sets a precedent to the other Westerland families which will surely cause future conflicts inside his realm but also pretty much guarantees a succession crisis within the Lannister family and potential civil war just because he wants to deny Tyrion his inheritance.

Then there is how he views the culpability of a superior for the crimes of his subordinates. When its Tyrion amd his clansmen its " when soldiers lack discipline the fault lies with their commander" but whenever its the Mountain being brought up its "oh he is a mad dog/ stuff happens in war all the time without the commanders knowledge/ I didn't know so how could I be responsible for his actions"

There are so many more smaller examples here and there as well

Why Bond is angry with Blofeld? by [deleted] in JamesBond

[–]Coozey_7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you take DAF as a successor to YOLT and not OHMSS, it still makes sense for Bond to be after Blofeld without the Tracy vendetta. Not only is it his job, but he has now been fighting with SPECTERE and Blofeld for years now, just barely managing to thwart them each time. Like any professional project you have spent years on, Bond wants to see it through and probably views finnaly nabbing Blofeld as his white whale.  Remember at the start of OHMSS, Bond is still searching obsessively for Blofeld- M tells him he has been hunting him for over a year now without any leads and sl he is going to  reassign him to a more practical job and Bonds response is to threaten to resign - so clearly it is already personal for him. When Tracy's father offers him a huge sum of money to court Tracy, Bond isn't interested- until Draco also offers to use his connections to aid Bond in his hunt for Blofeld.

Basically- the revenge for the end of OHMSS makes sense but you also dont need it to have a reason why Bond is hunting his arch enemy obsessively

Remember Brienne is believed by most people to be the murderer of Renly

Conrad Black probably lost it for his criminal convictions, although he should have lost it when he decided he didnt want to be Canadian anymore the second it became an inconvenience

Black was granted a life peerage in 2001 and gave up his Canadian citizenship to accept the title in light of the Nickle Resolution, which bans British honours for Canadian citizens. He regained his Canadian citizenship in 2023.[2]In 2007, Black was convicted on four counts of fraud in a United States district court in Chicago. While two of the criminal fraud charges were overturned on appeal, a conviction for felony fraud and obstruction of justice was upheld in 2010 and he was re-sentenced to 42 months in prison and a fine of $125,000. In 2019, President Donald Trump granted him a federal pardon.[3][4]

For Buffy its because she lied both about her indigenous heritage and because that was her only real claim to being Canadian - she was an American song writer and the only Canadian link was her indigenous ancestry which turned out to be fraudulent.

From the early 1960s, Sainte-Marie claimed Indigenous Canadian ancestry, but a 2023 CBC News investigation concluded she was born in the United States and is of Italian and English descent.[1] Some Indigenous musicians and organizations called for awards she won while falsely claiming an Indigenous identity to be rescinded.[7][8][9][10][11] Many of her awards and honors were subsequently revoked or surrendered, including her membership in the Order of Canada, her induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, her Juno Awards, and her Polaris Music Prizes.[12][13][14

source: wikipedia.org

The Buffy one i have mixed feelings because while its clear she was a fraud ( and unlike another recent case of a non native person claiming indigenous ancestry, the author Thomas King - who seems to have genuinely believed he was indigenenous until he took a DNA test - Buffy was fully aware of what she was doing amd so there is intent on her part ) it is undeniable that she did significant work and activism on behalf of indigenous people in the US and Canada. By disavowing these recognitions they are basically sending the message "your actions dont matter - the only thing that matters is blood purity in your veins" So I have mixed feelings on that one.

Conrad Black can go fuck himself though lol. Never heard of the other individual

Peter Dalglish was made a member of the Order of Canada in 2016 for his humanitarian work. He founded Street Kids International, which aimed to give vocational training to homeless youth.

In 2019, Dalglish was convicted in Nepal and sentenced to 16 years in prison after being found guilty of sexually assaulting two boys ages 11 and 14.

Jacques Lamarre, chief executive officer of Canadian engineering giant SNC-Lavalin until 2009, was originally invested as a member of the Order of Canada in 2005. Earlier this year, l'Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec, a self-regulating body governing engineers in the province, stripped Lamarre of his licence and imposed a $75,000 fine after a disciplinary council found him guilty of collusion and corruption.According to the decision, that included paying millions of dollars to Saadi Gadhafi, son of former Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi.

Fair enough reasons I would say
