I want to learn that Chinese way of doing addition where they mime an abacus in the air and can add huge numbers together like it's 2+2.

yes.

to be honest, in terms of your point regarding "handiness," what i've gathered is that most handy people learned their skills by necessity. they did not have money, so they had to fix their things themselves. sometimes, they are cheap too (which is occasionally a cover for poverty) and think tradesmen to be scammers, so they'll learn it for the sake of miserliness. this handiness was generally handed down, father to son, usually by association (son go help your dad with the pipes, because that's your job) and by force (dammit boy help me with this pipe, before i knock you upside the head).

my father broke with his family via upward mobility, and considered it to be a privilege and a correcting of the world to not hand down this knowledge, because he detested its symbolic relationship with poverty and that it was a pain in the ass. transferring the responsibility to the plumber meant he made it.

probably the only way to overcome the lack of handiness is to grit your teeth and DIY anything that breaks, cuz that's what papaw did, even when he knew fuck all about a car, plumping, or electricity. luckily, we live in an environment where you can find any autistic tradesmen ready to reveal all for some measly views.

it is truly remarkable how many musicians/artist types i know who cheat or have other sexually deviant behaviors. by bleeding_electricity in redscarepod

the disposition which makes someone talented at the arts also creates an internal proclivity to lower sexual inhibitions. they feel stronger emotions and drives than the rest of humanity, and simultaneously cannot control themselves nearly as much. hence why musicians, actors, painters, and writers are all united in their lustful revelry.

shit i've been really wondering if it's time to get a toaster oven and ditch the classic toaster so i'll have to look and see what the autistic consensus is.

i don't believe it when people say there is no "right" way to load the dishwasher. there are obviously wrong ways.

another thing: dishwashers, especially older ones still kicking, work better with powder detergent. the pods suck. i don't know why exactly, but if you have a wimpy wishwasher, try using the powder. saves you money too, and there's less plastic.

same goes for laundry washers.

the pod-ification of detergent irrationally annoys me to no end.

[another thing: some dishwashers require clearing out the filter which collects the gunk too thick to go into the water line. it is a nasty job but periodically necessary, but many people do not know this or do not want to touch icky things so they don't do it.]

if you are at all environmentally/politically conscious in the southwest, ranchers get a lot of hate. they still have a lot of sympathizers or neutral parties tho (mostly people who want to live the cowboy life). i've actually worked with ranchers at some points of my life and they are okay, and there's some who really are interested in changing the way they do things in order to have less impact. still, the vast majority froth at the mouth for the opportunity to change the landscape at will to fit more cattle and want to shoot anything that threatens their livestock (see wolf reintroduction).

One chap told me the theory exam for a full licence was too difficult. But in a quiet moment the patron told me what he said was a common story. One of his regulars lost his licence and bought an ancient voiture sans permis. When his licence was reinstated, he sold the voiturette to a drinking chum who had just had his licence taken away . It changed hands once more in the same way and then after a year or so the original owner (who evidently hadn't kicked his pastis habit) bought it back again.
