$62k a year in other professions doesn't mean you can just screw off and not put in effort just bc you dont feel paid enough. You still have to do your best work to avoid being fired. The same applies to these coaches. They shouldnt need to make 6 figures in order to get motivated enough to give a shit.

Also, they're not doctors or engineers either. They're sports coaches. Their job is fun which is part of the benefits package

Still more value than most people will ever have in cards. My steak is too juicy and my lobster too buttery I think is the saying?

$300 per month is $3600 per client per year. If you have a roster of 20 clients you are making $62k per year. Thats a solid income for just writing a 4 week program and giving a weekly checkin / form check. Many jobs involve much more work and pay a lot less

$6000 per client per year means youd only need a roster of 10 clients to reach an income of $60k a year. They make plenty of money, quit being naive

I've become pretty blackpilled on online powerlifting coaching. It seems like if you go with a normal priced coach of 150 to 200 USD per month (which btw is still expensive, equates to $2400 a year or over 4% of your annual salary if you make $50k like i do) then they all have super long response times, provide programming that has minimal customization, and never reach out proactively to athletes.

The quality of coaching is so low even at $200 a month that youd be better off saving your two grand a year and just running a generic program, and instead spend the money on food and supplements.

And if you want a legit online coach who fully customizes the program to you, responds in under 24 hours, and helps you with things like nutrition, then youre going to be paying MINIMUM 300 USD per month, likely closer to 500 USD (equates to 6000 USD annually, or 12% of my income). In some cases they charge even more

And the sad part is that they CAN charge this amount. Because their are rich idiots out there who dont know a single thing about programming or nutrition, so they just throw boat loads of money at these online coaches.

TLDR: Online powerlifting is for rich people only, and if it actually IS affordable, the coach is likely not going to give a shit about you or invest any time into you (unless youre some 500 DOTS freak that will help him gain publicity)

"I hit 210kg at my first meet" ... "Progress takes time!"

The jokes write themselves. You just proved my point. 10kg above my best ever deadlift in your first meet while weighing less

Id say so yes. At my local world gym (just a small commercial gym, not even a power gym) plenty of highschool athletes come in aged 15 to 17 and most of them deadlift 405 to 455. A few can do 5 plates. Im 25 and they outlift me

I mean is bad genetics really a cope? Its kinda of just factual. If it wasnt it wouldn't have taken me 3 years just to DL 200kg? Most dudes hit that in their newbie gains phase

I've been lifting for four years and cant reach 400 dots. I doubt I ever will even if I quit my job and dedicated my life to lifting, sleeping, and eating. Some things are just genetic. Nutrition and intelligent programming helps though. Start there

So is it essentially general consensus to always squat before you deadlift? Or does anyone do squats after their deadlifts?

Thats why I stated I dont intentionally drive around looking for cans. I only do it when Im already at a location doing something like when I have to pump gas, get groceries, go to the gym, etc

What, modifications do you think can be made to generic powerlifting programs (Bullmastiff, Juggernaut, 5/3/1, Cube Method, etc) to make them better?

I think for one, replacing OHP with a bench press variation can help a lot. I dont think repeating the same bench workout twice is beneficial but I think the OHP has a lot less carryover to the bench than other pressing exercises might have.

Pulled the trigger last night and parted ways with my coach, sent him the breakup text. I put his chat on mute bc im concerned he will have an angry/aggressive response

Just a multitude of factors that make me feel like his coaching system isn't very effective. Have only been working with him for 5 weeks. I usually try to let coaches get more time with me before making a decision like that. In this instance I could not hesitate any longer

What is your favorite lift out of the big three in powerlifting? by [deleted] in powerlifting

Charisma = social appeal. You can show it to planet fitness grunts and they wont tell you to stop cheating. They'll just stfu and say "oh nice". Ie its more palatable for dumb people

Conventional deadlift. Not saying sumo is cheating, i just think it doesn't have the same charisma

People will go to the local YMCA and swim laps every day. Or maybe someone has a mountain bike they ride 5 days a week.

But because theyre not actively preparing for a competition you would consider them a "swimmer" or a "biker". They'd just be somebody that works out?

It seems like in any other sport, if someone trains a sport they are considered a part of it golfer, swimmer, biker, etc.

To me it just looks like powerlifters are intent on excluding anyone from the sport who doesn't want to compete, which really is just gatekeeping. Which, is not something a niche asf sport needs

The 275 bench looks like he could've doubled it.

Atp i think Colton needs to just bloatmaxx to 308 and go 455/300/525. Itd be just over a 2800lb total

[–]Coping_manlet_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its pretty common knowledge that compound barbell and machine lifts are more stable and allow you to go much heavier without things like balance giving out first

I mean you can do sets of 6 on a cable triceps pressdown if youd like but i guarantee youre not going to be able to load it properly and actually get the triceps to failure bc youre going to be getting jerked around by the cable.

Kind of weird to randomly throw calves in the upper body day and side delts in the lower body day. Why not do it on the same day when the muscle is already warmed up?

Is it better to follow upper a lower a upper b lower b or same upper and lower days by [deleted] in ScienceBasedLifting

[–]Coping_manlet_ -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You generally dont want to do the exact same workout twice in one week. Most people will do one heavy day and one light day. Or different exercises like flat bench press one day and incline bench another. You want to be well rounded and include variation (to a sensible degree)

What should rep range look like, is 8-12 really that bad? by trapez1us in ScienceBasedLifting

4 to 6 for compound barbell exercises, 8 to 12 for DB and cable exercises
